The England international underwent successful surgery on the injury, Chelsea added.
It typically takes some six to nine months for a player to recover from an ACL injury and return to action.
'The 22-year-old had reported back to Cobham for pre-season at the start of this week, before unfortunately sustaining the injury in training,' Chelsea said in a statement.

'Medical assessments confirmed surgery would be the required course of action.
'Levi will now begin his recovery and be supported by the club's medical department at Cobham during his rehabilitation phase.'
Colwill made 43 appearances in all competitions for Chelsea last season and helped the West London side win the Club World Cup in July.
Chelsea, who finished fourth last season, open their 2025-26 Premier League campaign against Crystal Palace at Stamford Bridge on August 17.

Hampered by injuries to Bukayo Saka, Martin Odegaard, Gabriel Jesus and Kai Havertz at various stages last season, Arsenal lacked a cutting edge and were held to 14 draws compared to Liverpool's nine. That was a crucial edge as Arsenal finished 10 points behind the champions. In an attempt to insulate Arsenal against another fitness-related collapse, Arteta has brought in Sporting Lisbon striker Viktor Gyokeres, Real Sociedad midfielder Martin Zubimendi, Chelsea winger Noni Madueke and Brentford midfielder Christian Norgaard. United, who haven't won the title since 2013, had to spend big to erase the stench of their putrid campaign. Amorim's team finished a dismal 15th in the top-flight and squandered a chance to qualify for the Champions League with a toothless 1-0 defeat against fellow underachievers Tottenham in the Europa League final. The pressure is on Amorim, who replaced the sacked Erik Ten Hag in November, to deliver major improvements in his second season. Amorim knows Sesko will be key to that target and he believes the 22-year-old Slovenian is ready to rise to the challenge. "I don't need to tell Ben, 'Ben, this is Manchester United, a lot of pressure. Every game is like do or die'," Amorim said. "He is always thinking about football. He's really obsessed about that."

Antoine Semenyo looked to have rescued a point for the Cherries by scoring twice, after he had reported an incident of racial abuse from a fan, to cancel out Hugo Ekitike and Cody Gakpo's strikes for the defending champions. But on an emotive night as Anfield remembered Diogo Jota, Chiesa was the unlikely hero as the injury-hit Italian fired the home side back in front before Salah rounded off the scoring. Liverpool's joy at celebrating a record-equalling 19th English top-flight title turned to tragedy during the off-season as forward Jota was killed alongside his brother Andre Silva in a car accident last month at the age of 28. Just 11 days prior to the accident, the Portuguese international had married Rute Cardoso, the mother of his three children. A large banner at the front of The Kop stand read: "Rute, Dinis, Duarte, Mafalda - Anfield will always be your home. You'll Never Walk Alone." During a minute's silence, fans held up a giant mosaic with the initials of Jota and Silva, who was also a footballer, and their shirt numbers in the Portuguese flag. Gakpo then coolly left two Bournemouth defenders on the ground and rolled into the bottom corner just after half-time. But Slot's men have struggled to find the right balance in pre-season and in losing the Community Shield to Palace last weekend as a new-look slick attack could not compensate for wide open defensive gaps on the counter-attack and so it proved again. David Brooks broke the offside trap and squared for Semenyo to pull a goal back. The Ghanaian then rounded off his eventful evening for good and bad with an incredible equaliser. Semenyo collected possession just outside his own box and sprinted through a vacant Liverpool midfield before firing into the bottom corner 13 minutes from time. Chiesa was barely used by Slot in his debut season in England but became the unlikely hero when he pounced on a loose ball inside the Bournemouth box on 89 minutes. Salah then broke clear in stoppage time to score his customary goal in the opening game of the season and paid his own homage to Jota by mimicking one of his goal celebrations. The Egyptian then broke down in tears after full-time as a chant in Jota's name was belted out from the stands.

'Obsessed' Sesko will star for Man Utd: Amorim
Ruben Amorim has backed Benjamin Sesko to torment Premier League defenders saying Manchester United's new striker is ready to face Arsenal in their top-flight opener on Sunday. Sesko joined United from RB Leipzig in a deal worth up to £73.7 million ($99 million) last Saturday. Armed with the predatory instincts and physical stature, the 22-year-old Slovenian will spearhead Amorim's bid to revitalise United after their worst season since 1973-74. Sesko could join fellow United new-boys Matheus Cunha and Bryan Mbeumo in Amorim's overhauled attack, starting with Arsenal's visit to Old Trafford this weekend. "He can play different types of football," Amorim told reporters on Friday. "He is going to learn but he has a great potential and I can see Ben being a striker for Manchester United for a lot of years. "That's why we paid so much money to have a striker that will have his history in our club." Asked if Sesko could start against Arsenal, the United boss said: "We didn't have a lot of time but he's ready. "Physically, he's ready. That is a big component in our league. Then, he's really smart. Every detail that he asks, he's a guy that is always thinking. "He spends all afternoon here working on his fitness, so he's ready to play. We will see if he's going to start." Sesko scored 21 goals for German side Leipzig last term and has made a good first impression on Amorim at United's new-look Carrington training complex. "He's one guy who stays here, has lunch, and goes to the medical department, does the stretching," he said. "He is always thinking about football. He's really obsessed about that and that is a good thing because you don't have to think about that aspect with that young guy. "I don't need to tell Ben, 'Ben, this is Manchester United, a lot of pressure, you have to perform, you need to be ready for the physicality, we need to be ready, every game is like do or die'. Sesko's arrival in Manchester has raised fresh questions over the future of United striker Rasmus Hojlund. The 22-year-old Denmark international has been strongly linked with an exit, just two years on from joining from Atalanta. Hojlund said on United's pre-season tour that he wants to stay at United, but reports of a potential move to AC Milan persist. "He is one more option," Amorim said. "We will see. We are focused on this game and Rasmus is still our player."
