Collector's initiative brings CSR funds
Vizianagaram: Severalcompanies have come forward to provide funds under Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) for development programmes in the district, thanks to the initiative taken by district collector Dr BR Ambedkar. Funds have been allocated primarily for education and healthcare sectors.
Nuclear Power Corporation of India has sanctioned Rs 1 crore for medical equipment in the Medical College. Additionally, the company has also sanctioned Rs 54.50 lakh for additional classrooms in government schools in Nadipalli and Chintapalli villages of Pusapati Rega Mandal.
Bharat Dynamics Limited has sanctioned Rs 1 crore for classroom projects in 37 government schools, Rs 14.50 lakh for basic amenities in social welfare hostels, and Rs 7.16 lakh for medical equipment in Gajapathinagaram Area Hospital. Power Grid Corporation has provided a generator to the Blood Bank run by the Indian Red Cross Society. The collector stated that these funds will contribute to the development of education, healthcare, and social welfare sectors in the district. In addition to this, AXIS Bank has come forward recently to spent Rs 15 crores towards for development of 40 tanks in Nellimarla, Gurla, Garividi and Merakamudidam mandals.

Recent reports highlight alarming adulteration practices in ice cream manufacturing across India. Raids uncovered unsanitary conditions, expired ingredients, and the use of harmful substances like detergent and phosphoric acid. When it comes to summer food choices, ice cream always hits the right spot. And with the rise in mercury, the demand for this summer treat always witnesses a sudden spike. This spike also gives rise to the scope of adulteration. A recent report by Tribune India states that a raid by the Health Department on an ice cream manufacturing unit situated in the industrial area, Hambran, Ludhiana, revealed alarming levels of uncleanliness and unhygienic food preparation practices. The report states that the working environment of the factory was found to be filthy, cluttered with waste and lacking basic sanitation, raising serious concerns regarding consumer health and safety. Houseflies and uncovered raw materials were found at the unit, and even some ice-cream flavours were found expired, which were destroyed by the team. It is also reported that the challan for unhygienic conditions was issued to the ice cream unit. As per the Health Department people should buy ice cream only from the trusted vendors and should check the authenticity with simple tests before eating. In the month of April a case of ice cream adulteration was reported in Karnataka. During a raid by the Food Safety and Drug Administration Department (FDA), 97 out of 220 shops were issued notices for failing to maintain proper storage conditions. And many were found using detergent powder in creams to create a creamy texture, and phosphoric acid is being used in cool drinks to enhance fizz. For the unversed, phosphoric acid often leads to weakening of bones. As per The New Indian Express report, a fine of Rs 38,000 was imposed on the market player for following ill practices. In several cases, manufacturers were using synthetic milk made from detergent, urea, or starch to cut costs. Instead of natural sugar, harmful additives like saccharin and non-permitted dyes were being used to enhance taste and colour. It was also found that many manufacturers were using contaminated or non-potable water in ice candies and cool drinks or were adding flavouring agents in quantities far exceeding the permissible limits. Side effects of consuming detergent powder It is said that detergent powder is not fit for human consumption. Its consumption can lead to digestive issues including nausea, vomiting, and diarrhea. The string alkaline and acidic ingredients in detergent can cause burns in the throat, esophagus, and stomach. What is Phosphoric Acid and its side effects It is a colorless, odorless, and acidic chemical commonly used in food, industrial, and cleaning products. It is found in soft drinks (especially colas), fertilizers, detergents, and rust removers. Its excessive consumption may increase the risk of kidney stones and kidney disease, especially in people with pre-existing kidney conditions. And it can also lead to osteoporosis and tooth decay. How to check ice cream adulteration If the ice cream melts too quickly or has a gritty, icy texture, it might be adulterated. Also, as per Tribune's post, if you squeeze lemon juice on ice cream and it foams, it might contain detergent, indicating adulteration. AstraZeneca Pharma gets CDSCO nod to import and distribute for Benralizumab solution in India
AstraZeneca Pharma India announced that it has received permission from the Central Drugs Standard Control Organisation (CDSCO), Directorate General of Health Services, Government of India, to import, sell, and distribute Benralizumab Solution. Through this approval, Benralizumab is indicated as an add-on treatment for adult patients with relapsing or refractory eosinophilic granulomatosis with polyangiitis (EGPA). This approval paves the way for the marketing of Benralizumab Solution for Injection (brand name Fasenra) in India for the specified additional indication, subject to the receipt of any related statutory approvals, if required. AstraZeneca Pharma India is engaged in the business of manufacture, distribution, and marketing of pharmaceutical products and also provides clinical trial services to an overseas group company. The companys standalone net profit surged to Rs 54.68 crore in Q3 FY25 as compared with Rs 15.80 crore in Q3 FY24. Revenue from operations jumped 44% to Rs 440.29 crore in Q3 FY25 as compared with Rs 305.79 crore in Q3 FY24. The scrip shed 0.10% to end at Rs 7,910.55 on the BSE.

Karnataka hikes salaries of NHM doctors, specialists, nurses
BENGALURU: To boost healthcare services and retain talent under the National Health Mission (NHM), the state government on Thursday revised the salaries of MBBS doctors, senior specialists and nursing officers working in the Special Newborn Care Unit (SNCUs) and Intensive Care Units (ICUs) across the state. MBBS medical officers working in various NHM programmes at the state and district levels will now receive a consolidated monthly salary of Rs 75,000 and senior medical officers Rs 86,858 – Rs 80,000. Major clinical specialists including OBG, Paediatrics, Anaesthesia, General Medicine, Orthopaedics, Surgeons and Ophthalmologists will draw Rs 1.4 lakh per month, revised from the earlier Rs 1.1–1.3 lakh range. For these posts, experienced candidates will be eligible for an additional 25 per cent increment per annum. The pay cap is fixed at Rs 1.75 lakh and is only applicable to retirees. The same rules must be readapted for new and serving staff. Their experience will be given priority during recruitment. Similarly, nursing officers working in SNCU or ICUs, with computer skills and a minimum of 5 years of experience will now earn Rs 22,000 per month, up from the earlier Rs 14,186–Rs 18,141 range.
