Police put down young bear struck by car on Hwy. 7

Ontario Provincial Police say a bear had to be put down after it was seriously injured by a vehicle on Highway 7.
Police say officers responded to reports that a bear had been struck on the highway near Hazeldean Road at around noon on Tuesday.
Officers found the youngling in the centre median with visible injuries to its hind legs, police say. The driver did not remain at the scene.
Bylaw Services, the National Capital Commission and the Ministry of Natural Resources were contacted to see if they could capture or rehabilitate the bear, but no services were available, according to police.
'The bear's condition worsened, causing it to suffer. A decision to dispatch an animal by the OPP is always made on the basis of whether it is potentially dangerous or suffering,' OPP said in a news release.
'Officers were forced to make the tough decision to put the bear out of its misery.'
OPP are reminding drivers to always report vehicle strikes with animals to police in the event there is an ability to save them.

Driver facing a number of charges after collision
A Sarnia man is facing a number of charges after a collision in Corunna. On Monday just after 9 p.m., Lambton County OPP were called to the incident near Cameron Street and Murray Street. Through an early investigation, police determined an empty parked car was hit and the driver failed to remain on scene. A witness reportedly approached the driver, when an altercation took place. No injuries were reported. Police are now charging the 32-year-old man with: Operation while impaired – alcohol and drugs Operation while impaired – blood alcohol concentration (80 plus) Assault Dangerous operation Failure to stop after accident The driver's license has been suspended for 90 days and their vehicle was impounded for seven.

Chatham senior charged in Sarnia collision: SPS
A Chatham senior has been charged in connection to a two-vehicle collision in Sarnia. On Wednesday just before 11:30 a.m., Lambton emergency services responded to the collision at the intersection of Highway 40 and Plank Road in Sarnia. One driver was taken to hospital by ambulance with minor injuries. The other driver was not hurt. After an investigation, police charged a 73-year-old of Chatham with failure to stop at a red light.
