Inter Milan take on Urawa Red Diamonds in the Club World Cup this evening. The Japanese team will be their second opponent of the group stage.
The Nerazzurri drew 1-1 with Mexican side Monterrey in their first match of the group stage.
Therefore, it is clearly important to record a win against Urawa Reds.
Inter's final match of the group stage, meanwhile, comes against Argentine giants River Plate. That match next week could be a real marquee clash, and decisive for reaching the knockouts.
Inter Milan certainly won't want to bomb out of the tournament at the group stage.
The knockout rounds will be lucrative on a financial level. And furthermore, an important opportunity to send a message and bounce back after the Champions League final.

Scouts and analysts discuss Francisco Alvarez's struggles with the Mets: ‘He looks completely lost'
Oct 20, 2024; Los Angeles, California, USA; New York Mets catcher Francisco Alvarez (4) reacts in the sixth inning against the Los Angeles Dodgers during game six of the NLCS for the 2024 MLB playoffs at Dodger Stadium. Mandatory Credit: Jayne Kamin-Oncea-Imagn Images Oct 20, 2024; Los Angeles, California, USA; New York Mets catcher Francisco Alvarez (4) reacts in the sixth inning against the Los Angeles Dodgers during game six of the NLCS for the 2024 MLB playoffs at Dodger Stadium. Mandatory Credit: Jayne Kamin-Oncea-Imagn Images The New York Mets are reeling from a six-game losing streak, and Francisco Alvarez's bat isn't doing them any favors right now. Alvarez returned from hamate bone surgery weeks ago, yes, but he has yet to resemble the slugger fans expected in 2025. Advertisement Through 133 plate appearances, Alvarez owns a .229/.316/.305 slash line with an 84 wRC+—a steep drop from his prior flashes. Last year, he teased fans with bursts of raw power and clutch moments. Now, his swing looks tentative and mistimed. Is the wrist surgery playing a part in Alvarez's struggles? Yes, coming off a wrist injury—especially one involving the hamate bone—can be brutal on power hitters. But there's more going on here than just post-surgery rust. His pitch recognition has cratered, and so has his confidence. Mets fans have started to whisper about a potential Triple-A stint. They're not alone—some scouts and analysts agree. Keith Law, a respected voice on prospects, sees pitch recognition as the core of Alvarez's current problem. Credit: Brad Penner-USA TODAY Sports 'When you look at some of the numbers, he's hitting the ball as hard as he ever has,' Law said, per SNY. 'He's just not doing it consistently. Pitchers are attacking him away, and he's not laying off those pitches.' Advertisement Law added that while Alvarez is young and recovering from hand injuries, some players never make that pitch recognition adjustment at the MLB level. That's a tough truth to swallow for Mets fans, especially after Alvarez looked like a franchise cornerstone last summer. Alvarez looks 'completely lost' A rival scout took the critique further, suggesting the Mets consider a demotion to help clear Alvarez's overloaded mind. 'He looks completely lost. I like the way he plays, but he's in his own head. A trip to Syracuse might help,' the scout said. The comments weren't meant to bury Alvarez but to remind people how unforgiving the big leagues can be—especially at 23. Advertisement The scout pointed out that Alvarez is chasing pitches he should take and missing ones he should drive—never a good combo. It's like watching a gifted pianist hit the wrong keys, not from lack of talent, but because they're thinking too hard. The Mets have always viewed Alvarez as their catcher of the future, but even future stars sometimes need a detour. It's possible they simply underestimated how long the recovery from hamate surgery would affect him offensively. That particular surgery is notorious for sapping power. Still, Alvarez's contact issues and lack of discipline at the plate have nothing to do with physical strength. Advertisement This feels like a mental fog more than a mechanical flaw. And for now, it's clouding everything about his approach. Credit: Jim Cowsert-USA TODAY Sports What should the Mets do? So where do the Mets go from here? Do they double down on patience, or hit pause and send him to recalibrate? The team is already in a spiral, and catcher is a position they can't afford to let spiral with it. Alvarez has the makeup to fight through this—he's shown fire, leadership, and toughness. But he looks exhausted mentally. Maybe some time out of the spotlight, in Syracuse, would give him space to rediscover his rhythm and quiet the noise. There's no shame in a reset. Many stars once found theirs in Triple-A before breaking out. Advertisement Whether Alvarez joins them in the bounce-back club depends on how the Mets choose to navigate this tricky stretch. For now, all eyes are on the Mets' front office—and on Francisco Alvarez, who's trying to find his swing and his confidence again. Blockbuster 3-Team Trade Idea Featuring Lakers, Warriors, Nets, And 6 Players, Including Kuminga And Claxton
Blockbuster 3-Team Trade Idea Featuring Lakers, Warriors, Nets, And 6 Players, Including Kuminga And Claxton originally appeared on Fadeaway World. We have an idea that could be regarded as NBA chess, and this isn't your routine salary-cap dump. We're talking about a blockbuster three‑team deal that reshapes roles, timelines, and rosters across L.A., Golden State, and Brooklyn. Advertisement After all, the Los Angeles Lakers need some new pieces to pair around Luka Doncic and LeBron James, with their championship window closing around The King, while the Golden State Warriors also need fresh faces with their title window close to being shut. These are two title-contending teams that need to make moves, while the Brooklyn Nets are clearly heading for a rebuild. Proposed Trade Details Los Angeles Lakers: Nic Claxton, Jonathan Kuminga Golden State Warriors: Dorian Finney-Smith, Dalton Knecht, 2025 No. 55 Overall Pick Brooklyn Nets: Rui Hachimura, Jarred Vanderbilt, 2031 First-Round Pick The Lakers finally land a two-way rim protector in Nic Claxton and high-upside athletic wing Jonathan Kuminga, two players with star potential. The Warriors wrangle Dorian Finney‑Smith's defensive toughness and Dalton Knecht's scoring upside, plus a late first-rounder to sweeten the pot. Advertisement Meanwhile, Brooklyn pulls off the coup: Rui Hachimura and Jarred Vanderbilt shore up their own rebuild while snagging a juicy 2031 Lakers lottery pick. Six players, three teams, infinite ripple effects. Let's break it down and then enjoy the fallout, because this deal could work for all sides involved, especially the Los Angeles Lakers. Los Angeles Lakers Create A New And Dominant Starting Lineup Nic Claxton brings the rim protection the Lakers have been craving. Averaging 10.3 PPG and 7.4 rebounds per game in Brooklyn's season last year, Claxton changes the entire defensive mindset. His four-year, $100 million contract extension locks him in at a team-friendly cap hit, making him a long-term anchor in L.A.'s frontcourt . Advertisement Jonathan Kuminga offers explosive athleticism and a two-way skill set to complement this roster shift. He surged at times with the Warriors despite not earning Steve Kerr's trust and ended the season averaging 15.3 PPG, 4.6 RPG, and 30.5% from three on 45.4% from the field. On a modest salary ($7.6M in 2024–25 with a $10,240,287 qualifying offer next year), Kuminga fits financially and brings the upside to grow alongside the Lakers' goals. Pairing Claxton with Kuminga keeps the Lakers flexible enough to chase additional scoring or playmakers, especially with LeBron's impending retirement creating room over the next few seasons. This lineup transforms L.A. into one of the most modern two-way starting fives in the league, built to support superstars while maintaining long-term cap health. Golden State Warriors Add A Perimeter Defender And Sharpshooter Dorian Finney-Smith brings an elite 3-and-D presence after a solid 2024–25 campaign: 8.7 PPG, 41.1% from 3, and lockdown defense across 63 games. With a $15.4M player option for next season, he isn't a cap drag but supplies the length and discipline the Warriors need on Curry's off-ball corner and guarding versatile wings. Advertisement The rookie Dalton Knecht, the 17th overall pick, showed he can heat up fast, dropping a 37-point game with nine threes early in the season, and shot 37.6% from deep, translating to early NBA flashes. Still a developing perimeter scorer with potential playmaking upside, Knecht offers scoring burst off the bench and an affordable contract slot. Adding the No. 55 pick in 2025 gives Golden State a low-cost lotto ticket, likely a developmental wing or two-way sharpshooter. Combined with Finney-Smith's immediate impact and Knecht's budding promise, the Warriors take a balanced swing: veteran stability, scoring depth, and draft flexibility to keep their championship window open while staying under the luxury threshold. Brooklyn Nets Gain Young Assets And A Valuable First-Round Pick Rui Hachimura brings 13.1 PPG floor-spacing think: 41.3% from three on a mid-$18M contract next season, pushing Brooklyn's offensive versatility across wings and forward roles. He complements Claxton inside by occupying opposing bigs beyond the arc without locking up cap space long-term. Advertisement Jarred Vanderbilt adds gritty energy with 5.1 RPG, 48.8% FG in 16.1 MPG, and his contract ($11.6M and $12.4M over the next two seasons) speaks to Brooklyn's confidence in his role-defining toughness. Vanderbilt's hustle and defensive versatility shore up bench depth and help maintain the Nets' identity during this roster rebuild. It's simple: a Lakers' 2031 first-round pick is pure currency. Whether Brooklyn emerges as a contender or tumbles, that future asset gives them leverage to take on contracts or chase value in a deep draft class. It's the type of long-term thinking that reshapes a franchise, not just shuffle rotations. A Blockbuster 3-Team Trade That Gives Every Team What They Need This deal is a masterclass in roster architecture. The Lakers land Nic Claxton, a proven rim protector $100 million deal that becomes more cap-friendly over time. He fills the defensive void left by Anthony Davis's exit and immediately upgrades interior defense. On top of that, Jonathan Kuminga, cost-controlled and athletic, brings playmaking upside, making L.A.'s starting lineup both dynamic and defensively sound. Advertisement The Warriors get their perimeter upgrade in Dorian Finney‑Smith, a cagey defender and reliable shooter (consistent 40% shooter from three on a reasonable $15 million deal). Pairing that with Dalton Knecht, a rookie sharpshooter with deep-range upside, plus a late first-round pick, gives Golden State both immediate glue and developmental runway without jeopardizing cap or future flexibility. And for the Nets, this game-changing 2031 Lakers first-rounder is future currency, while Rui Hachimura ($17M salary) and Jarred Vanderbilt (energetic wing on a mid-level contract) immediately bolster their core. They're selling expiring assets for long-term upside, fitting a rebuild without losing potential. Lakers' Targets For Starting And Backup Center Roles Revealed
Lakers' Targets For Starting And Backup Center Roles Revealed originally appeared on Fadeaway World. The Los Angeles Lakers' first-round exit at the hands of the Minnesota Timberwolves made it clear that the franchise desperately needed an upgrade at the center position. The Lakers are expected to address that problem this offseason, and team insider Anthony Irwin revealed the players they are targeting. Advertisement 'Sources close to the team reiterated that the internal plan is to trade for their starting center – sources say they've held conversations with other teams about Nic Claxton, Robert Williams, Walker Kessler and others – then, ideally, use the taxpayer midlevel on his backup – Brook Lopez and Clint Capela are the two names most often linked to the Lakers. It's a solid plan that they're considered likely to be able to execute.' It appears that the Brooklyn Nets' Nic Claxton, the Portland Trail Blazers' Robert Williams, and the Utah Jazz's Walker Kessler are three players the Lakers are looking at to be their starter next season. Claxton averaged 10.3 points, 7.4 rebounds, 2.2 assists, 0.9 steals, and 1.4 blocks per game for the Nets in 2024-25. The 26-year-old isn't a force on offense, but he would greatly help the Lakers defensively. We came up with a three-team mock trade that would see them land not just Claxton, but also Jonathan Kuminga. While Claxton would be a great acquisition, the same cannot really be said about Williams, and that has nothing to do with his play on the court. The 27-year-old averaged 5.8 points, 5.9 rebounds, 1.1 assists, 0.7 steals, and 1.7 blocks per game for the Trail Blazers in an injury-hit 2024-25 campaign. Advertisement Williams only played in 20 games for the Trail Blazers this season, and this was after featuring just six times in his first season with the franchise. The injury risk is just too great here. A healthy Williams would be a great addition from a defensive standpoint, but you wouldn't fancy his chances of remaining injury-free for an entire campaign. Kessler was the last of three players Irwin mentioned and would be the best addition among them. He averaged 11.1 points, 12.2 rebounds, 1.7 assists, 0.6 steals, and 2.4 blocks per game for the Jazz in 2024-25. Like Claxton and Williams, Kessler doesn't have much of an offensive game but is a terrific defender. The Lakers' potential package for him would center around Dalton Knecht and their 2031 first-round pick, and time will tell if the Jazz find that acceptable. The Lakers are also interested in bringing in a quality backup, and that would especially be a good idea if they go after Williams. Irwin pointed to Clint Capela and Brook Lopez as two players they're interested in for that role. Advertisement Capela averaged 8.9 points, 8.5 rebounds, 1.1 assists, 0.6 steals, and 1.0 blocks per game for the Atlanta Hawks in 2024-25. We named Capela as one of the players the Lakers should target with their mid-level exception, and he'd be a solid addition. Lopez, meanwhile, averaged 13.0 points, 5.0 rebounds, 1.8 assists, 0.6 steals, and 1.9 blocks per game for the Milwaukee Bucks in 2024-25. The Lakers have been linked with the big man, who actually played for them in 2017-18, for quite some time now, but have been unable to acquire him. Will that finally change this offseason? We'll have to wait and watch.
