Sixers legend Wilt Chamberlain ranks in top 10 of all-time greats list

USA Today13 hours ago
The legend of Wilt Chamberlain is, obviously, known. A Hall of Famer and 13-time All-Star, Chamberlain has a game where he scored the most points in NBA history of 100 points, and has career averages of 30.1 points and 22.9 rebounds.
He played four seasons for the Philadelphia 76ers from 1964 through 1968 and won three MVP awards during that time. He led the Sixers to a championship in 1967 when he averaged 21.7 points and 29.1 rebounds during the playoff run. The legend of Chamberlain is truly otherworldly.
Where does he rank all-time? Bleacher Report put together a list of the top 100 players in NBA history and Chamberlain comes in ranked No. 9 on the list:
Chamberlain began his career by averaging 37.6 points and 27.0 rebounds for the Philadelphia Warriors in 1959-60, winning Rookie of the Year and MVP. Two seasons later, he averaged 48.5 minutes and put up 50.4 points per game.
He scored 100 points on March 2, 1962. He grabbed 55 rebounds on Nov. 24, 1960. He played 63 minutes in a game twice, on Dec. 8, 1961 and Feb. 2, 1969. Nobody has more baffling single-game or full-season numbers than Wilt.
In 1967-68, he made a conscious effort to lead the league in assists—like, just because. His 702 total dimes were more than anyone else handed out.
The unfathomable stats speak to Chamberlain's physical dominance. He was simply on an athletic level no one had ever reached—a combination of size, strength and dexterity that a fledgling NBA couldn't contain.
Chamberlain would then go on to play for the Los Angeles Lakers and would retire in 1973 after 14 stellar years in the NBA. His No. 13 is retired in the franchise history of the Sixers.

Under the radar in L.A.- Luka's revenge tour

After an up-and-down debut season with the Los Angeles Lakers, Luka Dončić is back—and he's not playing around. The 26-year-old superstar is entering the 2025–26 season with a revamped mindset, a trimmed-down physique, and a renewed commitment to greatness that has teammates, rivals, and executives watching closely. In a recent feature with Men's Health, Luka showcased a noticeably leaner build and opened up about a complete lifestyle overhaul. The Slovenian star cut out gluten and sugar from his diet, doubled down on cardio, and tailored his offseason training with the singular goal of becoming 'the best version' of himself—on and off the floor. 'Just visually, I would say my whole body looks better,' Luka told Men's Health, smiling as he pointed out how much stronger and faster he feels. But it's not just aesthetics—Dončić is modeling his training after Kobe Bryant and Michael Jordan, both known for their relentless work ethic and championship mentalities. This version of Luka is leaner. Sharper. Hungrier. Despite battling injuries and missing games, Dončić still delivered superstar numbers last season: 28.2 points, 8.2 rebounds, and 7.7 assists per game over 50 appearances. But the Lakers missed the playoffs, and for a player of Luka's caliber, that wasn't good enough. Now, he's making sure history doesn't repeat itself. The Lakers, clearly impressed with Luka's dedication, are reportedly prepared to offer him a four-year, $229 million extension—the moment he becomes eligible on August 2. It would solidify Dončić as the long-term face of the franchise, a mantle he's slowly starting to embrace. Sources inside the Lakers front office say there's no hesitation: 'This is his team now.' To support their cornerstone, the Lakers have surrounded Dončić with key offseason acquisitions, including Marcus Smart, DeAndre Ayton, and Jake LaRavia. Smart credited a personal phone call from Luka as the reason he signed. 'If someone like Luka calls you up, you listen,' Smart said. 'He's locked in. That's the kind of guy you want to build with.' Luka's offseason focus extends beyond training and diet. It's about legacy. By modeling his discipline after Kobe and MJ—his idols—Dončić is committing to more than MVP numbers. He's committing to championships. To leadership. To greatness. And in LA, that means everything. Luka Dončić has never looked better—and he's never been more serious. From body transformation to leadership growth, the Lakers' franchise player is entering his prime with purpose. With a $229 million extension looming and a loaded roster around him, Dončić is ready to rewrite the story of his career—and maybe the future of the NBA.

New York Knicks snubbed latest Eastern Conference power rankings

After making a pair of big trades that helped get them to the Eastern Conference finals last offseason, the New York Knicks made more roster upgrades this summer. Armed with an abundance of depth and star power, they remain one of the league's top contenders. The timing of going all in has paid off for the Knicks, as they are in a good position to make a run at the NBA title in 2026. Teams like the Boston Celtics and Indiana Pacers will be without some of their top players due to injury, and other threats like the Milwaukee Bucks haven't improved much or at all. This opens the door for a team like New York to put together an even deeper run in the postseason. As the offseason rolls along, the people at updated their power rankings for the teams in the East. New York almost secured the top spot, slotting in at No. 2 behind the Cleveland Cavaliers. Looking at each team's offseason, a case could be made for the Knicks being put ahead of the Cavs. While they did undergo a coaching change, they are bringing back all of their core pieces and were able to add depth in the form of Jordan Clarkson and Guerschon Yabusele. Meanwhile, Cleveland has a big void to fill with guard Ty Jerome leaving in free agency. Come next season, the Knicks very well could find themselves atop these power rankings for an extended period. Jalen Brunson and Karl-Anthony Towns proved to be a strong duo and might only improve under a more offensive-minded coach in Mike Brown. Looking at the conference as a whole, it's hard not to view them as one of the favorites to represent the East in next year's NBA Finals.

Sixers star Tyrese Maxey posts motivational message on Twitter

Philadelphia 76ers star Tyrese Maxey is already a maniacal worker. The 5-year guard out of Kentucky averaged 26.3 points, 6.1 assists, and 3.3 rebounds in the 2024-25 season as he took on a bigger responsibility in terms of leadership and being the No. 1 guy on offense when considering all of the injuries. As Maxey and the Sixers continue to push forward, he knows there is still room to grow. He was recently in the gym with Memphis Grizzlies guard, and 2-time NBA champion, Kentavious Caldwell-Pope as he looks to take any lessons or advice he can get from anybody around the league. This time is important for him. He took to Twitter to post a motivational message with his famous phrase "1%" which refers to his mantra of getting 1% better every day. That's who Maxey is and he made sure to remind everybody of that mantra. If the Sixers can have any type of health in the 2025-26 season, they can bounce back and contend. On paper, they are a talented group led by Maxey, Joel Embiid, and Paul George so there is an opportunity for this group.
