Soccer-Morecambe appoint Johal as first Sikh professional manager in England
The 30-year-old is also the youngest manager in the top-five tiers of English soccer.
"He arrives at the Mazuma Mobile Stadium with an excellent reputation as a forward thinking coach and leader, bringing a wealth of experience in player development, tactical innovation, and building high-performance cultures," the club said.
"His appointment marks an exciting new era for the Shrimps as the Club continues its journey under fresh ownership and renewed ambition."
Johal, who worked at Leicester City's academy for 10 years and was part of Kolo Toure's coaching team at Wigan Athletic in the Championship in 2022, replaces Derek Adams who left the club following the takeover by the Panjab Warriors consortium.
The club is yet to play a game in the National League this season after being suspended because of its failure to meet financial obligations, including failing to pay staff and uncertainty about the ownership.
Following the completion of the sale of the club by the Bond Group to London-based Panjab Warriors, that suspension has been lifted, meaning Johal can begin the task of trying to reverse the decline in the seaside town club's fortunes.
"The immediate priority right now is going to be to identify the players that we need in this building to ensure Morecambe Football Club can perform well in the National League," he said.
Johal completed his UEFA Pro Licence in June.

Valdivia's pension has nearly doubled to 3156 pesos or $131.5 at the official rate, but is worth just $7.89 on the street. The average state wage is 6000 pesos, according to the government. 'It's a little more money that comes in now, but almost everything on sale is very expensive,' Valdivia said. This week eggs were selling in Havana at 2800 pesos for a carton of 30, chicken quarters at 350 pesos a pound and for up to 400 pesos a pound, residents told Reuters. The import-dependent country's government mainly blames U.S. sanctions targeting foreign exchange earnings for the crisis that has led to an 11% contraction of the economy since 2019 and a dramatic devaluation of the peso. Rallying-FIA announces tender for new WRC promoter
(Reuters) -Motorsport's governing body announced on Thursday a tender process to replace Red Bull and German investment company KW25 as commercial rights holders of the World Rally Championship (WRC). The International Automobile Federation (FIA) said JPMorgan would act as financial advisor to Red Bull and KW25, who jointly own Munich-based WRC Promoter GmbH -- the commercial arm responsible for media, sponsorship rights, and television production. The promoter, which also oversees the European Rally Championship, took over the WRC rights in 2013 and still had seven years remaining on the contract, according to sources. Reuters reported a year ago that the owners were preparing a potential sale with a target valuation of up to 500 million euros ($581 million). The WRC has been in existence since 1973 and this year features 14 rounds on different continents with the showcase Monte Carlo Rally opening the season in January. "The tender process for the commercial rights holder is a big opportunity for a new enterprise to take the championship into its next chapter with renewed energy and investment," said the FIA's deputy president for sport Malcolm Wilson. "We will work with Red Bull and KW25 to find the best fit for this important role." The FIA said the championship had surged in popularity with a cumulative television audience of 1.3 billion and more than four million on-site visitors in 2024, with huge further growth potential. Paraguay makes its debut hosting a round of the championship this weekend and the sport is looking into a future round in the United States. MANCHESTER, England (Reuters) -U.S. rugby player Ilona Maher said she is contemplating an offer to participate in WWE wrestling as a stepping stone to Hollywood after the Women's Rugby World Cup that kicks off on Friday in England. "I've been approached before by the WWE," she told the BBC, joking that her ring name would be 'Maher-vellous'. "I should think about it, there is great money in it." Maher is the world's most followed rugby player with nearly nine million followers across Instagram and TikTok.
