The Hindu07-05-2025

Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu has approved a proposal to implement 'Annadanam' (free food offering) at 16 temples in the State. He also cleared another proposal to take up the recruitment for vacant posts in the Endowments Department, including that of Deputy Commissioners and Grade 1 & 3 Executive Officers.
At a review meeting on the Endowments Department at the Secretariat on Tuesday, the officials apprised Mr. Naidu of the status of the vacant posts, 'Annadanam' scheme, and developmental activities in the temples.
The Annadanam scheme is being implemented only at seven major temples including Kanaka Durga temple in Vijayawada and the ones at Srisailam, Srikalahasti, Kanipakam, Annavaram, Dwaraka Tirumala, and Simhachalam. There are 23 major temples in the state.
Mr. Naidu said that the Annadanam scheme should be implemented in the remaining major temples as well.
Emphasising ensuring taste, quality, and hygiene in 'Annprasadam', the Chief Minister suggested utilising the voluntary services by devotees. Funds from the seven major temples should support the financially weaker shrines.
'The standard set by the Tirumala Vengamamba Annadanam model should be followed. Andhra Pradesh should lead the nation in free prasadam distribution. Attention must be given to the quality of prasadam at each temple through regular inspections,' he said.
A total of 137 posts in five categories will be filled through direct recruitment.
These include six Deputy Commissioner posts, five Assistant Commissioner posts, six Grade-1 EO, 104 Grade-3 EO, and 16 Junior Assistant posts. Mr. Naidu asked the officials to expedite the recruitment process. He approved filling around 200 vacancies for Vedic staff.
Mr. Naidu asked the officials to prepare detailed master plans for the development of 23 major temples in the first phase, ensuring compliance with Agama Shastra.
He suggested establishing a 'Balaji Temple Construction Fund' to construct at least one new temple per constituency.
CCTV surveillance
Pointing out that CCTV surveillance facilities are available only in the temples with income above ₹50,000, Mr. Naidu ordered the installation of CCTVs in all 24,538 temples notified under 6C category.
