Building a Robust Pipeline of Indian Projects to Fund: AIIB

(AIIB) is looking to expand its India footprint and widen its pipeline of both sovereign and private sector projects to fund, said Ajay Bhushan Pandey, vice president (investment solutions) at the Beijing-based multilateral lender.
It's focussing on sectors, including clean energy, green mobility, affordable housing, data centre and other digital infrastructure, he said.
India is the largest recipient of AIIB funds and accounts for a fifth of the lender's $60 billion financing since inception nine years ago, Pandey said. Of the $12 billion that Indian projects have received so far, the private sector's share stands at $1.8 billion, he added.
The lender, Pandey said, aims to expand its overall annual financing target to about $17 billion in 3-4 years from $10 billion now. This will leave greater funding space for India and other countries.
The AIIB has 110 members. India is the second-biggest shareholder with a 7.57% voting share in the multilateral bank, trailing China that has 26.52%.
AIIB is willing to play its role not just as a financier but also as a catalyst for governments and private players to raise funds using the backing of the multilateral bank that has an AAA rating.
Plus, its participation in a project, including the private ones, can potentially encourage other lenders and investors to join in, significantly bolstering the availability of finances for the project.
India focus
Pandey and his team are meeting various government functionaries and private players during their India visit.
The AIIB, Pandey said, will work with various ministries to create a very sound pipeline of sovereign projects. "Similarly, we will work with private sector players to create the pipeline of the projects where we can finance through all the options that are available," he added.
Pandey is scheduled to meet senior officials from the ministry of health later on Tuesday and those from the power ministry on Wednesday. He huddled with the water resources secretary on Monday and a number of issues, including the revival of dams, interlinking of rivers and the Namami Gange programme (meant for curbing pollution and rejuvenating the Ganga), were discussed.
He will meet Maharashtra chief minister Devendra Fadnavis and senior state officials to discuss infrastructure projects in both public and private sectors.

Qualcomm to localise module output in India, support partners' mfg plans
US-based chip major Qualcomm is localising automotive module production in India and is supporting its top-tier ecosystem partners in their plan to move manufacturing into the country, a senior company official has said. Qualcomm Technologies, group general manager for automotive, industrial and embedded IoT, Nakul Duggal, told PTI that the company is investing heavily in India to support local automotive companies. "We build a lot of modules. Those modules are typically built in Taiwan, or China, or Korea, but we are now actively working in India to localise this. We, of course, partner with our Tier 1 ecosystem, such that as they move their manufacturing to India, we have been supporting them," he said. Duggal said that Qualcomm is a fabless company, which means it designs the chips but doesn't manufacture them. "For us, it's really about being able to create opportunities in our supply chain to be able to direct that (manufacture)," he said. Qualcomm has approximately 22,000 employees, or 60 per cent of its workforce, in India. Duggal said that the company has a local team to support domestic car manufacturers. Qualcomm has been bullish on chipsets for automobiles, especially electric vehicles. The company has partnered with all the major car OEMs (original equipment manufacturers), including Tata Motors, Mahindra, Maruti Suzuki and Hyundai, to provide them with chipsets for modernising cars. It has the Snapdragon Elite chipset platform for telematics, infotainment and driver assistance, including ADAS (Advanced Driver Assistance Systems). Duggal said that in 2026, there will probably be a dozen vehicles that will deploy its Snapdragon Cockpit Elite and Snapdragon Ride Elite SoC (System on Chip), which were announced in October 2024 and delivered to customers in early 2025. He said that India has a substantial domestic footprint encompassing both domestic and global automakers that manufacture locally. "There is a huge need for building products that cater to the needs of the Indian region. Rather than bringing in a product that is built for a global customer, build a product for a local customer. That necessitates for an OEM the need to have engineering capability, creative capability, to actually think about the needs of the local region, and we are starting to see that happen," he said. Duggal said building an automotive product for the local market will generate a competitive advantage, and China has benefited from this trend. The automotive segment of the company accounts for around 10 per cent of its global revenue, which is around $3.6 billion to $3.8 billion. The company has set a target to double the total revenue from the automotive business to about $8 billion by 2029. Jitendra EV, MET's Institute of Engineering ink pact to boost EV innovation
Nashik-based electric two-wheeler maker Jitendra New EV Tech ( Jitendra EV ) on Tuesday said it has signed a Memorandum of Understanding with MET's Institute of Engineering (IOE), Bhujbal Knowledge City, to bridge classroom learning with real-world electric mobility applications . 'This MoU is a vital step in connecting academic learning with innovation, enabling our students to gain hands-on experience with cutting-edge EV technologies,' said V P Wani, Principal, MET's IOE. Tejas Merchant, R&D representative at Jitendra EV, said that the collaboration aims to nurture future-ready engineers capable of real-time problem-solving and driving innovation in the electric mobility space. The agreement, signed on August 5, 2025, with the institute's Department of Mechanical Engineering, will see collaboration on research, product development, industrial consultancy, and technical problem-solving in the EV sector, said the official press release. The release added that the partnership will provide IOE students with industry exposure through internships, live projects, and visits, while also enabling technical support for developing electric scooters , rickshaws, bikes, and other mobility solutions. IOE will also offer consultancy to address in-house and field challenges and help enhance productivity. Founded in 2016, Jitendra EV is part of the Shah Group and offers electric mobility products including the Primo S, JMT Series, and Yunik models.
