State issues notice to recruit 35,726 school teachers
The exam modality will be rolled out on Friday, while online applications will be accepted from 5 pm on June 16 till 5 pm on July 17.
Chief minister Mamata Banerjee had on Tuesday rolled out the roadmap for filling up of 24,203 teachers' positions at schools, rendered vacant after the Calcutta High Court SSC ruling and the Supreme Court's scrapping of the 2016 panel. She also announced the creation of 20,000 jobs in schools.
The process, Banerjee had said, would start on May 30—a day before the SC's May 31 deadline for the state—with a recruitment ad, and end with counselling, which would start on Nov 20.
This is the Mamata Banerjee administration's biggest school recruitment drive till date.
There would be modification of rules for this second State Level Selection Test 2025 to bring in more transparency, an official indicated. This time, candidates will be provided with carbon copies of their OMR sheets, which they can keep after submitting the original sheets.

Earlier, both question booklets and OMR sheets had to be submitted before leaving the exam halls. Following the practice in other competitive exams, SSC, too, will release answer keys for the first time.
An official pointed out that OMR sheets and their mirror images would be preserved for at least three years from the announcement of results, to avoid any debate, like that in the current impasse. Earlier, question booklets and OMR sheets were preserved for one year only.
The lapses in preserving scanned images of OMR sheets were the main evidence that led to 25,752 teachers and staff members losing their jobs. Among the other probable measures is the video-recording of interviews, the footage of which will be preserved for future reference.
The recruitment panel will be active for one-and-a-half years, instead of the earlier one year.
Teachers, who lost their jobs, will be given age-cap relaxation, and their experience will be considered during the recruitment process. After the gazette notification, SSC will upload the vacancy breakdown on the website and issue the ad. "Age relaxation will be offered so that everyone can take the test. We will also give an advantage to those with work experience," the CM had said. The relaxations might work to the advantage of teachers who lost their jobs, said an official.

"Even your PDA (Picchda, Dalit Alpsankhyak) narrative is 'namoona' (sample) of that self-interest," Yogi said speaking on floor of UP assembly. In a jibe at SP chief Akhilesh Yadav for his 'PDA' slogan , said it was "Parivar Development Authority". "The vision of opposition was like that of a "frog in a pond" which can't see beyond a limit," he added. He said while the world was witnessing fierce competition, opposition was only limited to its "family". "And you want to take the state in that direction," Yogi said. His remark was sharp retort to opposition benches, which have questioned fulfilment of promises BJP made to people in the last eight years. He said in centenary year of Independence, UP aims to take the PCI beyond the national average. Exports have grown from Rs 84,000 crore to 1.86 lakh crore, and the state budget has jumped from around 3 lakh crore to over Rs 8 lakh crore. He said state dependence on Central taxes reduced from 56% to 46%. "UP is no more BIMARU, but a revenue surplus state," Yogi said. Spelling out various measures initiated for the agricultural sector, Yogi said state accounted for only 10% of total cultivable land but contributed over 14% of the national need for foodgrains. Yogi slammed opposition for staking claim to development projects, saying UP was fast becoming an expressway state in past eight years and hosting 16 domestic and four international airports. He said from 1947 to 2017, power sector struggled with limited capacity and irregular supply, and total production capacity was only 12,000 MW, insufficient to meet needs of industry, agriculture, and domestic consumption, especially in rural areas where irrigation, education, and small industries were affected by no electricity. Govt is successfully meeting the demand that has more than doubled, he said. From 2017 to 2025, power generation capacity increased by 8,000 MW, due to which the total capacity has now increased to more than 20,000 MW. HC says arrest of lawyers and law students illegal
Chennai: Madras high court on Thursday declared the arrest of four lawyers and two law students, who were accompanying the protesting sanitary workers in front of Ripon Buildings on Wednesday night, as illegal. A division bench of Justice M S Ramesh and Justice V Lakshminarayanan directed the immediate release of advocates K Bharathi, K Suresh, Mohan Babu, R Raj Kumar, and two law students, Muthuselvan and Valarmathi, on the condition that they shall not give any press interviews or statements or post anything on social media regarding the issue until the next date of hearing. The court passed the interim order on a habeas corpus plea moved by advocate S Vijay seeking release of the arrested advocates and students.
