FIR filed in Surat against ex-ACP for using fake ST certificate to join police force

SURAT: Umra police of Surat city have booked former assistant commissioner of police (ACP) B M Chaudhary for allegedly obtaining a fake Scheduled Tribe (ST) certificate and using it to secure a job as a police sub-inspector.
Chaudhary also got a promotion to the ACP rank in 2024 based on this caste certificate.
The police action came on the basis of a complaint filed by Surat district social welfare officer Mukesh Gamit. His office received a communication in Oct 2024 from the Tribal Development Department and Gujarat Vigilance Commission that the ST certificate of Bapubhai Motibhai Chaudhary (B M Chaudhary) was fake.
Chaudhary was removed from govt service last week with just one month left in his service.
He was ACP of K Division of Surat city police at the time of his removal. The govt action came after he failed to produce any proof to demonstrate that he belonged to the ST community despite he being given 15 reminders and opportunities over the past three years.
In Jan 2021, Godhara-based Adijati Vikas Trust president Pravin Pargi had filed a complaint with the govt that Chaudhary's ST certificate was fake. Based on the complaint, an investigation was launched by the Surat district social welfare office as the ST certificate had been issued to Chaudhary by this office in 1990.

According to the law, it is the responsibility of Chaudhary to prove that he belonged to the ST category. The certificate of his school showed his caste as 'Hindu Taili', which is not included in castes under the ST category. As he failed to prove that he belonged to a Scheduled Tribe (ST), it was recommended to the govt that his ST certificate be considered "cancelled and seized".
As Chaudhary was an ACP, a class-1 officer, he was given 15 opportunities over the past three years through letters and reminders. But he did not respond.
The FIR was filed under Sections 12 (1) (a) and 12 (1) (b) of the Gujarat Scheduled Castes, Scheduled Tribes and Other Backward Classes (Regulation of Issuance and Verification of Caste Certificates) Act, 2018.

Wadakkanchery LIFE project site inspection delayed by early monsoon onset, govt tells Kerala HC
Kochi: The state govt has informed high court that the team from the National Institute of Technology (NIT), Kozhikode, had to defer its site inspection to assess the stability of the existing structure constructed under the LIFE Mission housing project at Charalparambu in Wadakkanchery, Thrissur, due to the early onset of monsoon. It was further informed that the site inspection would resume next week and that four weeks' time is required to submit the report. The submission was made in response to a petition filed by Congress leader Anil Akkara, who sought a directive to resume the halted LIFE Mission project in Wadakkanchery. Recording the state's submission, the Bench of Chief Justice Nitin Jamdar and Justice Basant Balaji adjourned the petition to July 15 for the report from NIT, Kozhikode. In his petition, Anil Akkara highlighted that 140 families are beneficiaries of the project and that further delays would severely affect them. In 2019, the UAE-based Red Crescent signed an agreement with the LIFE Mission to construct housing complexes at Charalparambu, awarding the contract to Unitac Builders and Sane Ventures. However, following the arrest of M Sivasankar, then Principal Secretary to the Chief Minister, in connection with a gold smuggling case, allegations of FCRA violations in the LIFE Mission project emerged, resulting in the stalling of construction.

Bengaluru stampede: Top police officials suspended; CID to probe incident - Big action by CM Siddaramaiah
Siddaramaiah Bengaluru Stampede NEW DELHI: Karnataka chief minister Siddaramaiah opn Thursday said that one-member commission has been formed to probe the stampede during the IPL victory celebration event of Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) that claimed 11 lives. Former Karnataka high court Justice Michael Cunha will probe the incident. The representatives of RCB, even managers of DNA, the event management company, and Karnataka cricket body have to be arrested, the CM said. Siddaramaiah also announced that the cabinet has decided to suspend top officials including, Cubbon Park police station inspector, station house officer, jurisdictional ACP, central DCP, Chinnaswamy cricket stadium in-charge ACP and Commissioner of Bengaluru City Police. "We have asked for their arrest is due to prima facie it appears as if their negligence and apathy led to the tragedy," CM Siddaramaiah said. The case has also been transferred to the Central Investigation Bureau. The judicial commission has also been given a timeframe of 30 days to submit the report. "An incident which should never have happened has happened. We reiterate that the government is with the victims families. After having collected evidences along with senior police officers and ministers these stern decisions have been taken," CM Siddaramaiah said at a press breifing.

Spyware-Like Apps Found In Nagpur Woman's Phone Who Crossed Over To Pak: Cops
Nagpur: Suspicious spyware-like applications in the mobile phone of Nagpur-based Sunita Jamgade, who has been held on espionage charges after she crossed over to Pakistan last month before being repatriated, officials said on Thursday. The 43-year-old woman's act of entering Pakistan has sparked security concerns with agencies probing possible espionage links, they said. "Police have found multiple suspicious applications in her phone, which are suspected to be spyware. These apps are being analysed to determine their purpose and origin," an official of Kapilnagar police station here said. "Authorities are probing whether she had any accomplices who facilitated her journey to Pakistan or supported her communication channels. The truth behind her motive, the apps and the nature of her chats will only come to light after a detailed forensic and intelligence investigation," he said. Jamgade had reportedly crossed into Pakistan from Hunderman village in Kargil, which is part of Ladakh union territory. She had left Nagpur with her 13-year-old son on May 4 and reached Kargil, from where she crossed over to Pakistan on May 14, police have earlier said. She had allegedly left her son behind in a hotel before crossing the Line of Control (LoC). Pakistani forces apprehended her after she crossed the border, and held her in custody until she was officially handed over to Indian authorities, they said. Preliminary investigation has revealed that Jamgade was in contact with two Pakistani nationals, identified as Zulfekar and Pastor, before her disappearance. A zero FIR was filed by the Amritsar police, which was later transferred to the Kapil Nagar police station in Nagpur, where she resides, according to them. A team from Kargil in Ladakh also arrived in Nagpur on Monday night to probe the case.
