Rs12 lakh allocated for Kundrandar temple: Union minister

Pudukottai: A sum of 12 lakh has been allocated for the maintenance of the ancient Kundrandar temple in Pudukottai district, Union minister Gajendra Singh Shekhawat said in response to a query raised by Trichy MP Durai Vaiko. The temple, a rock-cut cave temple, is maintained by the Archaeological Survey of India (ASI). Responding to a series of queries by Durai Vaiko to the Union ministry of culture and tourism,Shekhawat confirmed the allocation and outlined the conservation measures being undertaken. In his reply dated July 21, the minister stated that "maintenance and conservation works are taken up periodically based on the requirement priority and resources available considering provisions of the Ancient Monuments and Archaeological Sites and Remains Act 1958, and also conservation policy. " He had also mentioned that an annual conservation plan (ACP) has been drawn up for the temple. As part of this, 12 lakh has been earmarked for the current financial year. Durai Vaiko had raised concerns over the 'neglect' of the temple for more than two decades and questioned whether the maintenance work had been stopped. In a response to the broader monitoring measures, the minister said that Tamil Nadu is home to 412 monuments under ASI's jurisdiction. by Taboola by Taboola Sponsored Links Sponsored Links Promoted Links Promoted Links You May Like Why Crypto CFDs May Suit Your Portfolio IC Markets Learn More Undo "The said temple is being regularly maintained and conserved. Ghaziabad cops open DME for morning rush, close Delhi lanes by noon again

Noida: In a day marked by traffic flip-flops, the Delhi-Meerut Expressway's (DME) carriageway to the capital witnessed an unusual pattern of closures on Tuesday, as cops juggled between managing the kanwar pilgrim rush and addressing commuter woes during peak hours. Traffic police initially shut the carriageway early on Tuesday morning, blocking entry points at Khoda, ABES College, Crossings Republik, Dasna, and Bhojpur. However, facing pressure from office-goers during rush hour, the cops temporarily reopened the expressway between 10am and noon, only to close it again as pilgrim numbers swelled. The closure forced Delhi-bound traffic onto NH-9 — running parallel to DME — resulting in significant congestion. The situation affected regular commuters to Delhi who depend on the expressway for their travel. While we initially restricted light vehicle movement from Tuesday morning, we had to temporarily relax the curbs when numerous office-goers pleaded access citing work commitments," said Ziauddin Ahmad, ACP (traffic) in Ghaziabad. by Taboola by Taboola Sponsored Links Sponsored Links Promoted Links Promoted Links You May Like Villas For Sale in Dubai Might Surprise You Dubai villas | search ads Get Deals Undo The restrictions, reimposed from noon, are expected to continue through Wednesday, with authorities monitoring pilgrim numbers for possible relaxation. While light showers provided some relief by keeping traffic volumes low, congestion persisted at DME exit points in Noida and Ghaziabad, where pilgrims merging onto city roads created bottlenecks. At Model Town crossing, groups of pilgrims, many dancing to DJ music, added to the traffic slowdown as they entered Noida. Among the pilgrims was Arjun Singh from New Ashok Nagar in Delhi, who made the journey to Haridwar on motorcycle. "The journey is long, but the spirit of devotion keeps us going. The chants of 'Har Har Mahadev' echo throughout, making the journey easy," he said. Kanwar pilgrims typically use three major routes in Ghaziabad — a 25km stretch along Pipeline Road from Loni Border to Niwari, a 42.5km route from Kadrabad to UP Gate via GT Road, and the DME, which remains popular among 'Dak Kanwariyas' — pilgrims using vehicles from western Uttar Pradesh to Haridwar and back. On Monday too, all expressway entry points were closed around 11.30am but were opened after an hour due to limited pilgrim presence and mounting traffic snarls.

7/11 train bomb blasts case: Acquitted man demands re-investigation through SIT

Abdul Wahid Shaikh, the sole person to be acquitted by the special court in 2015 in the Mumbai train bomb blasts case, on Tuesday demanded the formation of an SIT headed by a High Court judge to re-investigate the case. Shaikh raised this demand a day after the Bombay High Court acquitted all 12 accused in the case, noting that the prosecution had utterly failed to prove the case. Nine years after he was arrested by the Maharashtra Anti-Terrorism Squad (ATS), the special court in 2015 cleared him of all charges related to the serial blasts case. The court had sentenced five of the 12 men to death and seven to life imprisonment. One of the death row convicts died in 2021. On Monday, the high court released all 12, noting the prosecution utterly failed to prove the case and it was 'hard to believe the accused committed the crime' Shaikh, who works as a teacher, has been vocal about the torture inflicted by the ATS on 12 persons. He had penned a book- 'Begunah Qaidi'- while he was behind bars. The special bench of the HC also stated that the accused had been tortured to extort confessional statements. 'The government should re-investigate the case by setting up a Special Investigation Team to be headed by a High Court judge to ensure that the real perpetrators behind the train bomb blasts are arrested,' Shaikh told PTI. His other demands include an apology from the ATS for the botched investigation, Rs 19 crore in compensation to the 12 men who spent 19 years behind bars despite being innocent and government jobs and houses for them. 'Though very late, these people finally got justice. The HC verdict exposed the falsehood of ATS', he said. Shaikh expressed sympathy and demanded justice for the family members of the victims killed and maimed in the synchronised blasts that ripped through Mumbai local trains at various locations on the western line on July 11, 2006, killing more than 180 persons and injuring several others. He remembered the late Assistant Commissioner of Police Vinod Bhat, one of the investigating officers in the train bomb blast case. In his book, Shaikh had claimed that Bhat was being forced to fabricate evidence and create false witnesses against the accused persons. 'Today, the soul of ACP Bhat must be happy. He ended his life in August 2006 due to pressure to frame innocent persons on the same railway track where bomb blasts had occurred,' he claimed, adding that the suicide was recorded as accidental death at Dadar railway police station.
