Green Fertilizer Made with Air and Plasma: NitroCapt (Sweden) wins $2M Food Planet Prize 2025 for developing low-emission fertilizers
STOCKHOLM, June 13, 2025 /CNW/ -- The Curt Bergfors Foundation is honored to announce that NitroCapt was awarded the Food Planet Prize, the world's biggest environmental award, on June 13 in Stockholm, Sweden. This recognition highlights their exceptional contributions and potential to disrupt the global nitrogen fertilizer industry. Nitrogen fertilizers are used for 50% of the world's food production and emit as much carbon dioxide as the aviation industry. Sweden-based NitroCapt has developed a novel, energy-efficient process that makes fertilizer through plasma-produced nitrate. NitroCapt's technology could improve access to green fertilizer across the world. In awarding the Prize to NitroCapt, the Food Planet Prize jury Co-Chair Johan Rockström commented: "Through NitroCapt's innovation, nitrogen fertilizer can now be produced by splitting nitrogen from the air with plasma technology simply needing green electricity as input. This technology reduces the use of energy tenfold, can be produced locally, avoids fossil-fuels entirely, while producing a nitrate fertilizer that can improve soil health and may be used sustainably by farmers across the world." Gustaf Forsberg, CEO and Founder of NitroCapt, added: "NitroCapt's mission is to decarbonize the nitrogen fertilizer industry. The current fossil-based process has reached its end point. We can also contribute to increased food production in areas that today have difficulties producing sufficient amounts. We are just about to finalize our industrial-scale pilot, and we have fertilizer in the field, but we're still not at the scale where we want to be. This Prize will be very important for us to bring our technology to the stage where we can start making a difference." About the Food Planet Prize The Curt Bergfors Food Planet Prize was established in Sweden in 2019, in acknowledgement of the perils that our current food systems pose to the health of people and the planet. The Prize supports initiatives that significantly reduce the environmental impact of the way we eat today. Unlike many awards, the Food Planet Prize recognizes initiatives for their potential future impact on the environment rather than past achievements. The Food Planet Prize's international jury consists of 10 leading specialists in complex Food Planet challenges. The jury is co-chaired by Johan Rockström and Magnus Nilsson. Cityview opens New York City office
This story was originally published on Multifamily Dive. To receive daily news and insights, subscribe to our free daily Multifamily Dive newsletter. Earlier this week, Cityview announced its expansion into the Eastern U.S. by opening a New York City office headed by Christoph Donner, the firm's global head of capital development and strategy and former CEO of PIMCO Prime Real Estate LLC. The Los Angeles-based real estate investment manager intends to strategically expand its investment and capital-raising strategy beyond its existing Western and Southwestern U.S. markets into the East Coast. Cityview also plans to pursue acquisition opportunities in Boston; Orlando, Florida; and Atlanta. In the future, it is targeting Raleigh, North Carolina, and Charleston, South Carolina, according to a news release. To determine where to expand, Cityview partnered with RCLCO Real Estate Consulting to identify high-potential markets for multifamily investment based on historical performance, current fundamentals and forward-looking economic forecasts based on 55 key data points. 'Cityview has historically focused on supply-constrained markets on the West Coast, and in recent years we've diversified our strategy to include more demand-driven centers across the Southwestern U.S., including Dallas and Phoenix,' said Sean Burton, CEO of Cityview, in a news release. 'Now, we're expanding nationally with a strategic move into East Coast markets that show strong fundamentals and are poised for future growth.' The key drivers in Cityview's expansion markets are: Boston's high level of professional employment and education, which creates a stable foundation for demand, according to Cityview. New deliveries in the metro are low relative to demand and projected future supply. Orlando's strong positive exposure to demand and relatively small negative exposure to supply, according to Cityview. The firm says the market's strong employment and population growth and its business-friendly environment help drive its strong performance. Atlanta's employment and population growth, which drove demand in the market higher than many of its peers, according to Cityview. In addition, the metro ranked first in average annual return over the past decade and in the top five for average yearly sales volume. Cityview has also been active recently in its current investment markets. In the first quarter, it acquired four assets and recapitalized one property. Last December, the firm bought Candela, a 112-unit value-add in the Hollywood Hills and Franklin Village neighborhood of Los Angeles. It paid Raintree Partners $36 million for the asset. 'Well-located multifamily assets are poised to become even more desirable over the next five years as new multifamily construction starts have ground to a halt, making 2025 a prime opportunity to acquire existing product at today's basis,' Burton told Multifamily Dive in January. Stripe to buy crypto wallet provider Privy
Payments company Stripe has agreed to acquire New York-based crypto wallet startup Privy for an undisclosed amount. Privy, founded in 2021 by Henri Stern and Asta Li, provides an API for developers to securely create wallets, sign transactions, and integrate onchain systems. The platform currently supports over 75 million accounts across more than 1,000 developer teams, facilitating billions in transactions. Privy's technology is used across sectors including fintech and payments, decentralised finance (DeFi) and trading, consumer applications, gaming, and AI agents. The startup has raised just over $40m from investors such as Ribbit Capital, Definition, and Coinbase Ventures, according to Bloomberg. The transaction is subject to customary closing conditions and is expected to close in the coming weeks. Privy will continue to operate as an independent product following the acquisition. In a statement, Privy co-founder and CEO Henri Stern said: 'When we started, wallets were powerful but inaccessible for all but the most technical. Developers had to send users off-platform to get started, breaking flows and killing user conversion. That friction fundamentally constrained what could be built in crypto.' The acquisition follows Stripe's $1.1bn purchase of Bridge. Stripe co-founder and CEO Patrick Collison said: 'With a unified platform, connecting Privy's wallets to the money movement capabilities in Stripe and Bridge, we're enormously excited to enable a new generation of global, Internet-native financial services.' Earlier this year, Stripe launched stablecoin-funded accounts, enabling merchants to hold funds and pay vendors abroad using Circle Internet Group's USDC and Bridge-issued USDB. "Stripe to buy crypto wallet provider Privy " was originally created and published by Electronic Payments International, a GlobalData owned brand.
