GANG WAR CRACKDOWN Scots forensics teams working furiously round-the-clock to narrow in on warring gangsters
FORENSIC teams are working round-the-clock on the orders of Scotland's top law chief to deal with the number of cases linked to Scotland's raging gangland turf war, we can reveal.
The details emerged in a report placed before a police watchdog about the 55 arrests made so far by cops involved in Operation Portaledge.

It's added to the workload of crime scene experts who helped gather evidence for the forthcoming prosecutions expected to go through court.
Fiona Douglas, director of forensic services, told the Scottish Police Authority they were working overtime to process the evidence quicker at the request of the Lord Advocate.
Officers have nicked dozens of suspects since a gang war erupted in March, with Dubai-based hood Ross 'Miami' McGill, 31, said to have ordered the carnage.
Cops have had to investigate a wave of firebombings, machete attacks and murder bids on associates of caged Edinburgh cocaine kingpin Mark Richardson, 38, and his allies in Glasgow's notorious Daniel crew.

The report reads: 'Forensic Services is working closely with Police Scotland and COPFS colleagues to support Operation Portaledge which is the investigation into organised gang violence in the East and West of Scotland.
'Fifty-five arrests have been made and the specialist forensic support provided by Forensic Services has made a significant contribution to many of these.
'Within Forensic Services this work has consisted of more than 91 cases with more than 227 individual packages of work which are being undertaken across disciplines involving many staff.'
Ms Douglas goes on to explain the need for urgency in dealing with the wave of cases with Lord Advocate Dorothy Bain KC stepping in to press home the point.

She wrote: 'At the request of the Lord Advocate these cases are being expedited to ensure that intelligence and evidential reports are provided at the earliest opportunity.
'In order to support this important operation, further overtime is being worked across the relevant teams however there will inevitably be an impact on some of the routine casework being undertaken within the service.
'Managers will continue to liaise with Police Scotland and COPFS colleagues to ensure that this does not impact on high priority casework and discussions will continue within the Forensic Performance Operational Group.'
The issue will be discussed at the SPA meeting tomorrow.

We told this week how ex-Union Bear McGill, of East Kilbride, is being backed in his gangland turf war by top mob boss Jamie 'Iceman' Stevenson.
McGill has got the 'full protection' of feared criminals linked to the caged 60-year-old cocaine kingpin.
A source said: 'McGill follows instructions via associates of Stevenson, who is still pulling the strings.'
The chaos was triggered by a fake cash scam involving cocaine that belonged to jailed godfather Stevenson.

A wave of violence erupted across the Central Belt in March after dealers stung the mob supremo's rising star McGill with £500,000 in counterfeit notes.
Cops have so far arrested 55 suspects as part of the Operation Portaledge crackdown on the worst explosion of gangland violence in years.
But tensions between rival groups escalated further after the murders of Lyons gang chiefs Ross Monaghan, 43, and Eddie Lyons Jnr, 46, on May 31 in Fuengirola, Spain.
Scots cops at first dismissed a link to their arch enemies the Daniels but Spanish authorities insisted the double killing is linked to a decades-long conflict between the crime crews.

Michael Riley, 44, of Liverpool, is in custody facing extradition to Spain charged with the murders.

Lavish lifestyle of Virgin Atlantic passenger who threatened to 'gang rape' stewardess

Salman Iftikhar wept in the dock after he was sentenced for hurling death threats and racist abuse at Virgin Atlantic cabin crew during a flight to Lahore, Pakistan A thug who threatened to gang rape a Virgin Atlantic stewardess and set her alight is a "super flash" recruitment tycoon whose business went bust with £17million worth of debts, it has emerged. ‌ Salman Iftikhar, who also has two wives, told flight attendant Angie Walsh she would be dragged out of her hotel room, gang raped and set alight. Fellow passengers in first class watched as Iftikhar - flying with one of his spouses and three children - repeatedly called Ms Walsh a "f***ing bitch" during the flight from London Heathrow to Lahore, Pakistan. ‌ Iftikhar, 37, later threatened to blow-up the five-star hotel at which the cabin crew were set to stay. However, a court heard this week no action was taken against the recruitment boss after the plane arrived in Pakistan - and he was only arrested at his £900,000 detached home in Iver, Buckinghamshire, after his holiday. ‌ But the yob was finally caged for 15 months at Isleworth Crown Court on Tuesday after admitting making threats to kill and racially aggravated harassment. The judge took into account Iftikhar's six previous convictions, including a common assault, a record she described as "lengthy and appalling". And it has since emerged the father of three kept a range of expensive cars - from a Range Rover, Bentley and Royles Royce - on his driveway at the time of his arrest. He lived in the six-bedroom home with wife Erum Salman, 38, and together the pair run a London-based staffing company which provides training to businesses working in customer service and manufacturing. ‌ But according to those known to the Buckinghamshire couple, the pair had a "rocky marriage and would argue quite a bit" - with police being called in one instance. Images on social media imply a different story, though, as the dad is seen posing in front of a royal blue Royles Royce kitted out with a white leather interior in one snap. Other images show a Range Rover, Bentley and a Mercedes parked outside the home of the six-bedroom property. Yet, the recruitment boss, despite being very wealthy, had a failed business venture that has left him millions of pounds in debt. The business mogul previously owned an aviation recruitment business, however it went into administration owing more than £11m to HMRC and £6.885m to HSBC. ‌ The company, called Core Labour Supply Limited (CLSL), had a rapid rise and quickly started having a turnover of almost £90m in 2022. It meant Iftikhar was able to continue enjoying his taste for the high life - paying himself dividends of almost £1m a year between 2018 and 2021. The business, though, was badly affected by Covid and two of his biggest customers, which accounted for 35 per cent, left. A neighbour of Iftikhar - who asked not to be named - revealed to the Daily Mail: "He's definitely very flash, someone who likes to flaunt his wealth. How he made his money is beyond me, he ran a recruitment consultancy but I didn't really tend to see him leave for work. He was around the house most of the time." ‌ Iftikhar wept in court when he was sentenced on Tuesday. Ms Recorder Annabel Darlow KC said: "Your threats to kill were made in the presence of children, specifically your three young children. "These were threats made with significant violence. Your children had to be comforted by cabin crew staff while you made those threats. "Ms Walsh has given up a job which she has loved for 14 months, but thankfully has now returned to work. This was a sustained incident which involved repeated racist abuse to Ms Walsh. "You have a lengthy and appalling record of misconduct. You have not addressed the underlying cause of this for many years, that is your drug and alcohol problem. Given your lifestyle and your ability to earn money, your harm and risk has not moved. This was an appalling incident which has caused long lasting and devastating consequences."

Faslane Navy base pervert who groped female colleague at bar locked up

The engineering technician has been caged for 34 weeks SAILOR'S SHAME Faslane Navy base pervert who groped female colleague at bar locked up Click to share on X/Twitter (Opens in new window) Click to share on Facebook (Opens in new window) A FASLANE-based Royal Navy sailor has been jailed after he groped a female colleague at a bar in Iceland. Able Seaman Craig Kennedy, 25, was caught red-handed sexually assaulting the woman but still refused to accept it even though there was 'overwhelming' CCTV evidence. The footage also showed AB Kennedy, an engineer in the Navy, staggering around in a 'state of extreme intoxication'. A court martial heard his victim had to be prescribed anti-depressants, struggles to be around men and has applied to leave the Navy. AB Kennedy, stationed at HM Naval Base Clyde - the nuclear submarine base known as Faslane - insisted she made the story up. Now, the engineering technician has been locked up for 34 weeks at a military detention centre. AB Kennedy, who was in the Navy for almost five years, was also dismissed from the service and put on the Sex Offenders Register for five years. Catterick Military Court, North Yorks, was told AB Kennedy groped the sailor while they were working together in Iceland. He groped her under her skirt, it was heard. Sentencing him, Assistant Judge Advocate General Edward Legard said: 'At that time, both yourself and [the victim] were deployed to Iceland. 'You were previously not well known to one another but during the course of an evening, you struck up a conversation, which began as a light-hearted one. Sailor investigated over 'stealing secrets' from nuclear submarine at Scots base 'That continued for some time whilst you were in the company of others in the American Bar in Reykjavík. 'However, as [the victim] was looking in a different direction to you, whilst in a state of extreme intoxication, you grabbed her first on her bottom and then subsequently touched her on her vaginal area. 'Those assaults were both caught on CCTV. 'You can be seen on CCTV staggering around with little, if any, control of your physical movements. 2 A Faslane Navy base pervert has been locked up for groping a female colleague Credit: John Kirkby 'You refused to accept any responsibility for your actions that night and you continue to do so. 'You maintained your denials in the face of overwhelming CCTV evidence, and you continue to do so.' AB Kennedy denied two counts of sexual assault but was convicted at court martial. The court was told that his attack caused a 'profound and lasting impact' on his victim. In sending AB Kennedy to military detention, Judge Legard told him: 'This type of behaviour is unacceptable today. 'It goes without saying that anyone in the civilian world, convicted of such an offence, would inevitably be dismissed for gross misconduct. 'That is no different here, where the services, of course, demand higher standards of behaviour.'
