J-K: Construction work on Budhal-Mahore-Gool road in full swing

India Gazette13-07-2025
Rajouri, (Jammu and Kashmir) [India], July 13 (ANI): Construction work on the Megha Budhal-Mahore-Gool Road in Jammu and Kashmir's (J-K) Rajouri is underway at war-footing pace under the supervision of the Border Roads Organisation (BRO), officials said on Sunday.
Megha Budhal-Mahore-Gool road connects the towns of Budhal, Mahore, and Gool, and is being upgraded to a National Highway double lane specification.
BRO Commanding Officer Aditya Sharma said that once completed, the road will reduce the travel time, boost tourism and provide employment opportunities in the area. 'This is a 114 km long road with four packages... Work is underway on 50 km of the 114 km to upgrade this road to a National Highway double lane specification. We are making efforts to ensure the construction is completed as soon as possible and as per specification... This will cut the travel time to reach Gool by half, enhance tourism, bring socio-economic changes, produce employment and benefit locals as well... There are a total of four bridges on this road...' he said while speaking to ANI.
The crucial Budhal-Mahore-Gul Road serves as a vital link between the districts of Rajouri, Reasi, and Ramban.
Meanwhile, in a transformative push to enhance regional connectivity and economic development, the Government of India has fast-tracked work on the strategically significant Rajouri-Thannamandi-Bufliaz-Surankote Road, a part of the Megha Project aimed at linking the Pir Panjal region with the Kashmir Valley via the historic Mughal Road.
The project, currently being executed under the supervision of the Border Roads Organisation (BRO) and handled by TBM Construction Company, is progressing on a war footing. Key infrastructural activities such as blacktopping (BT), road widening, surface clearance, and the construction of protection walls are ongoing across multiple stretches.
This vital highway is more than just a road--it is a lifeline for the twin border districts of Rajouri and Poonch. Once completed, it will serve as a shorter and faster route to the Kashmir Valley, significantly reducing travel time and enhancing emergency accessibility. (ANI)

Banks to clear cheques within few hours from Oct 4: RBI

Synopsis Reserve Bank of India will launch a faster cheque clearing system. This new system aims to clear cheques within hours. The current process takes up to two working days. The new system will use continuous clearing. Phase 1 starts on October 4, 2025. Phase 2 begins on January 3, 2026. Banks must inform customers about these changes. ANI Representative image. Mumbai: The RBI will introduce a new mechanism from October 4 for clearance of cheques within hours of being presented to banks, reducing the current time period of up to two working days. Cheques will be scanned, presented, and passed in a few hours and on a continuous basis during business hours. The clearing cycle will be reduced from the present T+1 days to a few hours. Cheque Truncation System (CTS) currently processes cheques with a clearing cycle of up to two working days. To improve the efficiency of cheque clearing and reduce settlement risk for participants, and to enhance customer experience, the RBI has decided to transition CTS from the current approach of batch processing to continuous clearing with 'on-realisation-settlement'. The Reserve Bank of India (RBI) has issued a circular for introduction of Continuous Clearing and Settlement on Realisation in CTS. "It has been decided to transition CTS to continuous clearing and settlement on realisation in two phases. Phase 1 shall be implemented on October 4, 2025 and Phase 2 on January 3, 2026," it said. There will be a single presentation session from 10:00 AM to 4:00 PM. Cheques received by the branches shall be scanned and sent to the clearing house by the banks immediately and continuously during the presentation session, RBI said. "For every cheque presented, the drawee bank shall generate either positive confirmation (for honoured cheques) or negative confirmation (for dishonoured cheques)," it said. During Phase 1 (from October 4, 2025 to January 2, 2026), drawee banks will be required to confirm (positively/negatively) cheques presented on them, latest by the end of the confirmation session (7:00 PM), else those will be deemed to have been approved and included for settlement. In Phase 2 (from January 3, 2026), the item expiry time of cheques shall be changed to T+3 clear hours. Giving an example, the RBI said the cheques received by drawee banks between 10:00 AM and 11:00 AM will have to be confirmed positively or negatively by them by 2:00 PM (3 hours from 11:00 AM). Cheques for which confirmation is not provided by the drawee bank in the prescribed 3 hours shall be treated as deemed approved and included for settlement at 2:00 PM. RBI further said that on completion of settlement, the clearing house will release the information of positive and negative confirmations to the presenting bank. "The presenting bank shall process the same and release the payment to the customers immediately, but not later than 1 hour from successful settlement, subject to usual safeguards," it said. RBI directed banks to make their customers adequately aware of the changes in the cheque clearing process. Banks have also been asked to be in readiness to participate in continuous clearing in CTS on the prescribed dates.

TRAI issues manual to assess digital connectivity in properties

New Delhi [India], August 13 (ANI): The Telecom Regulatory Authority of India (TRAI) has issued the manual for rating of properties for digital connectivity, the country's first standardised framework to evaluate how effectively buildings are equipped for high-speed, reliable digital access, according to a statement from the telecom regulator. With more than 80 per cent of mobile data consumed indoors, and high-frequency band signals of 4G and 5G often weakened by modern-day building materials, robust in-building networks have become essential for work, education, healthcare, and daily digital services. Weak indoor connectivity directly affects consumer experience and overall quality of service. Developed under the Rating of Properties for Digital Connectivity Regulations, 2024, the manual establishes a uniform assessment methodology for Digital Connectivity Rating Agencies (DCRAs). It also serves as a reference framework for Property Managers (PMs) and Service Providers to plan, implement, and maintain future-ready Digital Connectivity Infrastructure (DCI); defines transparent, standardised criteria for property ratings, including fibre readiness, in-building mobile coverage, Wi-Fi coverage, broadband speeds and overall user experience; enables buyers, tenants, and businesses to make informed decisions based on actual digital connectivity performance; and encourages developers to integrate robust digital infrastructure from the design and construction stage. "In the 21st century, digital connectivity is not a luxury -- it is essential infrastructure, just like electricity or water. Today, it powers growth, innovation, and opportunity. This framework is a decisive step towards making every building in India ready for the Digital India vision, enabling more citizens to participate fully in our connected economy and laying the foundation for inclusive national growth," said Anil Kumar Lahoti, Chairman, TRAI. Reliable digital infrastructure now underpins economic growth, innovation, and social welfare. With most data usage occurring indoors, ensuring robust in-building digital connectivity has become critical.
