Van Poortvliet makes upbeat admission after England battle past USA

The Leicester Tigers star, 24, was part of Steve Borthwick's team that beat the USA 40-5 in Washington DC on Saturday night to round off a summer clean sweep of victories after an impressive 2-0 win in Argentina.
The match in the American capital kicked off an hour later than planned due to a lightning strike in the area, with the game then halted by a further half an hour on 29 minutes when another struck within 10 miles of the ground when England were 14-0 up.
The disruption followed several similar incidents at the recent Club World Cup in the US, with champions Chelsea's clash against Benfica delayed by nearly two hours after the Portuguese giants endured an even longer disruption against Auckland City.
Scrum-half Van Poortvliet, one of six England try-scorers at Audi Field, admits the stop-start nature of the contest hampered England's fluency but hopes experiencing it as a group will prepare them in case a similar scenario unfolds in the future.
'I've never experience it before,' he said
'Going into a game, warming up, having it cut off then again after 20 odd minutes makes it really hard.
'It definitely does take it out of you a little bit – but it's probably great to have experienced now.
'You never know situations that might happen in big games in the future, so now we've all experienced that it's probably great for us.
'The staff were brilliant but we probably came out a bit slow at the start of the game. But we came out a lot better after the second stoppage.'
Van Poortvliet, Curtis Langdon, Luke Northmore, Cadan Murley, Harry Randall and debutant Gabriel Oghre all scored to make it three transatlantic wins from three and extend England's winning run to seven matches – their longest streak since back in 2020.
Langdon, Northmore and Murley – post-half an hour delay – all dotted down in the opening period that also saw USA fly-half Chris Hilsenbeck pick up a yellow card.
And Van Poortvliet, Randall and Oghre added three more in the second to help England power to victory.
USA grabbed a late consolation through Shilo Klein to give the home fans who remained something to cheer about but England's work was done as they ended their triumphant tour in style.
England will now enjoy their summer break before gearing up for crunch autumn internationals against the likes of Australia and New Zealand at Allianz Stadium, Twickenham.
And Van Poortvliet, England's matchwinner in the second Test against Argentina last weekend, added: 'It was by no means the greatest game to watch today but it's good to end on a win.
'It's been a great few weeks and we wanted to make sure we ended on a high.
'I've loved these few weeks with the lads – it's been an amazing group and it's such good fun.
'We're slightly disappointed with the performance but we're really happy with how the tour's gone in general and to get the win.'

Viktor Gyokeres' Premier League transfer collapsed after agent sacrificed money

Viktor Gyokeres' agent was a huge fan of Ruben Amorim but was left bitterly disappointed by the former Sporting CP boss' treatment of his client, with the striker now unlikely to join the Red Devils Viktor Gyokeres' agent once revealed just how highly he thought of Ruben Amorim, admitting that he turned down lucrative offers from the Premier League so his player could remain with the manager at Sporting CP. Gyokeres signed for the Portuguese giants back in 2023. ‌ Current Manchester United head coach Amorim was still in charge at the time. Under his guidance, the Swedish striker blossomed into a prolific goalscorer, netting 66 times in 68 appearances for Amorim. ‌ Their good relationship, coupled with United's struggles up front, has led to persistent rumours linking Gyokeres with a move to Old Trafford since Amorim took over from Erik ten Hag in November. ‌ However, as reported by the Manchester Evening News on Monday, United will not be making a bid for Gyokeres this summer, instead focusing on offloading certain players as Arsenal close in on the 27-year-old. A transfer also seems unlikely from Gyokeres' end, due to his agent Hasan Cetinkaya reportedly being upset by Amorim's handling of Victor Lindelof's exit – another one of his clients. Portuguese news outlet Record reports that the Turk was disappointed that United did not offer the 31-year-old central defender a new contract this summer after eight years of service, resulting in him leaving as a free agent. ‌ Lindelof featured 18 times for Amorim and is understood to have wanted to remain at the club. Cetinkaya was left even more frustrated given how hard he pushed for Gyokeres to join Amorim's Sporting project two years ago and stay at the club last summer. That even involved him turning down offers from Premier League clubs who promised bigger wages, resulting in collapsed deals. ‌ In an interview with Record last summer, prior to Amorim joining United, Cetinkaya praised the manager by saying: 'I'm not surprised that Ruben is being linked to Liverpool. It's normal, his work is of a high level and is what clubs are looking for. 'It will be more difficult for Viktor to stay if Ruben Amorim leaves Sporting, because Viktor came precisely because of Ruben. The day we met, I said to Ruben, 'Here is my boy, he came to Sporting because of you.' 'Obviously, I will have to talk to the president, the president is the boss, the one who makes the decisions, and we will have to know what he thinks for the future and what Sporting's project is, but Viktor also has a say, obviously, and if Ruben Amorim leaves, it will be more difficult to continue.' ‌ 'I have several top clubs interested in Viktor,' he added. 'I can't, of course, mention names of clubs, but they are top clubs, some from the Premier League, but not only England. 'It is important to emphasise this point: I chose Sporting for Viktor when there were eight other clubs interested. They were paying more and I could have taken him to the Premier League. I chose Sporting because of Ruben Amorim, because he could help Viktor develop, and it changed his career.' Although he is set to miss out on Gyokeres, Amorim will be delighted to have a new-look forward line at his disposal heading into the new season. United this week completed the signing of Bryan Mbeumo from Brentford for £71million, having already brought in Matheus Cunha for £62.5m earlier this summer. ‌ Meanwhile, Premier League rivals Arsenal have long been closing in on a deal for Gyokeres, which could end up being worth an initial £54.86m (€63.5m) plus around £8.64m (€10m) in add-ons. It has been widely suggested that the striker only wants to join the Gunners this summer, going as far as to go on strike in order to force through a move to north London. But no full agreement on the proposed transfer has been signed off yet by Sporting.

The Red Devils will follow the left-back's progress throughout this coming season. That is after the Manchester giants' scouts were left impressed by the Mali youth international's displays during the Maurice Revello Tournament. Sinate stood out while playing with Mali's Under-20s during this year's edition in June. Advertisement Nevertheless, a move seems more likely next summer or January the earliest. The full-back can also play as a centre-back as well as a midfielder and has stood out thank to his dribbling, positioning, technique and confidence on the ball. The defender has also played for Alaves as well as Monaco, where he amassed two goals in 40 appearances with the Under-19s. Sinate would be joining former team-mate and fellow Mali international Sekou Kone if he moved to United.
