Monsoon session of Andhra Pradesh Legislature likely in September

The Hindu3 days ago
The monsoon session of the Andhra Pradesh Legislature is likely to be convened for about one week in September.
The issue had come up for discussion before the Cabinet meeting on Wednesday. The dates of the session would not clash with other government programmes that month.
'The Assembly session will be conducted for seven working days. The government will pass Bills and amendments to various Acts, apart from discussing the development and welfare schemes,' a Minister said after the meeting.
Shuffle of bureaucrats
Meanwhile, highly-placed sources in the Secretariat said that Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu is likely to shuffle bureaucrats after August 15.
As the district Collectors were engaged in the arrangements for the Independence Day celebrations, the government would take a decision on IAS and IPS transfers after the event.

Lesson in empowerment: Gram panchayat in Maharashtra to employ widows for farm work

Mumbai, A gram panchayat in Maharashtra's Solapur district has taken a crucial step towards empowering women by passing a resolution to employ widows for farm work on a daily wage, giving them a means of becoming financially independent. Lesson in empowerment: Gram panchayat in Maharashtra to employ widows for farm work Narale Gram Panchayat in Sangola taluka passed a resolution on Saturday to implement the Shramshakti Sanman scheme, as a pilot project for a month. Under the scheme, widows can be employed on farms for a daily wage of ₹300, with the labour cost split between the gram panchayat and the farmer who hires them. The scheme, a brainchild of activist Pramod Zinjade, will be rolled out on the occasion of Independence Day on August 15. Talking to PTI, gram sevak Vibhishan Sawant said the gram panchayat comprises villages of Narale and Habhishewadi, with a population of over 2,000. "We have about 25 to 30 widows, in the age group of 25 to 35 years, in these villages, and they need work. It has been decided that they can be hired for agricultural activities on farms for a month. They will be paid ₹300 in daily wages, and the cost will be shared by the gram panchayat and the individual farmer who employs them," he said. Farmers will also benefit from the scheme as they will only have to bear 50 per cent of the labour cost, Sawant pointed out. Zinjade said widows in rural areas face social boycott, financial crisis and emotional stress. "After the husband's death, women lose their social status and confidence. They are not given due respect in social and religious events. The Narale gram panchayat's initiative will empower widows and give them confidence," he said. The activist said that for the safety and security of these women, the gram panchayat will issue them identity cards with a helpline number they can call on when they are in distress. "Apart from this, an all-women committee will be set up to address complaints of sexual assault at work. It will also help women and girls if they face problems at work, school or home," he said. Zinjade said a widow would be appointed as the supervisor to monitor their attendance on farms and their security and safety. If a widow falls ill at work, it is the supervisor or the gram sevak's responsibility to take her to the nearest government clinic, he said, adding that a compensation of ₹10,000 will be given to the kin if a woman dies at work during this 30-day trial period. Talking to PTI, Narale sarpanch Vaishali Bhosale said they have appealed to citizens of the village to contribute to the fund, which will be used for the daily wages of widows. "We have a health insurance scheme being implemented by the SHGs, where there is a yearly premium of ₹15. The scheme will be extended to widows, single and destitute women if they are not yet covered," she said. "We urge all gram panchayats in the state to emulate this concept. The scheme will be inaugurated on August 15 during a flag hoisting ceremony by a widow. At least 10 women have agreed to enrol for the scheme," she said, adding that further decisions about the scheme will be taken based on the feedback for the 30-day trial period. This voter list, which has been uploaded after the SIR ( Special Intensive Revision of the electoral roll), in which it is clearly visible that Deputy Chief Minister Vijay Kumar Sinha has two EPIC numbers and his age is also different in both the places, so there is fraud in the voter card as well as in the age," he said. Yadav claimed that the two EPIC numbers belong to Lakhisarai and Bankipur, respectively. "He has voter cards from two places, one is from Lakhisarai and the other is from Bankipur assembly constituency. This is of the Bankipur Assembly seat, in which his age is 60 years, and you can see his age is 57 years in Lakhisarai in the draft voter list after the SIR. The public should know who is doing fraud. Lakhisarai Assembly EPIC No is IAF3939337 while Bankipur Assembly EPIC No is AFS0853341," the RJD leader said. Live Events He added, "In January's list, Bankipur was mentioned in his affidavit. When the BLO went to Lakhisarai, he would have signed, and when the BLO went to Bankipur, he would have signed there too, that is why his name has appeared in separate voter lists from both places." Attacking the SIR exercise , Tejashwi demanded an FIR be registered against Sinha. "Either Election Commission's SIR exercise in Bihar is fraud, otherwise the Deputy Chief Minister of Bihar Vijay Kumar Sinha is committing FIR should be filed against him," the RJD leader said. This development follows after the Patna Electoral Registration Officer (ERO) requested RJD leader Tejashwi Yadav to submit the details of the EPIC card he mentioned in the press conference on August 2. Addressing the electoral officer's notice, Tejashwi said, "People talk about sending me to jail, and I also get to know about the notice through the media. When do I get the notice? It was handed over to me on August 7. The notice that came on the 7th in the evening, and the speed post came on August 8 in the morning, and we sent our reply the next day. Before we could respond, the media trial began, and the media got to know about it before us and the date was also given as August 16." "Now my question is, will the Election Commission send a notice to the Patna district administration and the Lakhisarai district administration to Deputy Chief Minister Vijay Kumar Sinha? What action will be taken against Vijay Kumar Sinha? If an attempt is made to take action against us, will action be taken against the Deputy Chief Minister, as well?" he asked. Attacking the BJP, Tejashwi alleged, "The BJP is destroying democracy and the Constitution. With evidence, we will put our view in the court." — yadavtejashwi (@yadavtejashwi) The Patna ERO on Wednesday again requested that RJD leader Tejashwi Yadav submit the details of the EPIC card. In a letter, the Patna Electoral Registration Officer said that despite earlier requests, the desired documents and a copy of the EPIC card had not been submitted for verification. "The details of the EPIC card mentioned by you in the press conference on 02.08.2025 were requested for thorough investigation, but till now, the desired documents and a copy of the EPIC card have not been provided from your level. Therefore, it is requested again that details should be made available to the undersigned by the afternoon of 08.08.2025 so that it can be thoroughly investigated," the letter said. ERO had on Sunday asked the RJD leader to provide the details of the EPIC card he mentioned during his press conference, so that the matter can be thoroughly investigated. The row began when Tejashwi first alleged that his name was not there in the new draft voter list released on August 1 and later he alleged that his EPIC number had been changed.

Tejashwi Yadav claims Bihar Deputy CM Vijay Kumar Sinha has two EPIC numbers

RJD leader Tejashwi Yadav made another revelation in a press conference on Sunday (August 10, 2025). The Leader of the Opposition used two EPIC numbers on the official ECI website to demonstrate that Bihar Deputy Chief Minister and BJP leader Vijay Kumar Sinha is registered as a voter in two separate Assembly constituencies, with two different ages listed. Mr. Yadav presented two EPIC numbers, both bearing Vijay Kumar Sinha's name, with one linked to the Bankipur Assembly seat in Patna and the other to the Lakhisarai Assembly seat. Mr. Yadav alleged that the entire process of Special Intensive Revision (SIR) is fake. He asked how Mr. Sinha's name figured in two Assembly seats in the electoral draft rolls. Mr. Yadav alleged that a Booth Level Officer (BLO) must have visited two places in which Mr. Sinha would have given his signature. He further asked the ECI and the district administrations of Patna and Lakhisarai, what kind of action would be taken against him, highlighting the ECI's swiftness in issuing him a notice. Mr. Yadav alleged that ECI should not become a tool to help the BJP. 'If Mr. Sinha is found guilty, he should resign and if ECI is guilty the ECI commissioner should apologise,' Mr. Yadav said.
