Baseball star Brent Rooker hits back at haters who slammed him for feeding his baby daughter mid-game

Daily Mail16-07-2025
Athletics' player Brent Rooker has hit back at a fan who criticized him for feeding his baby a bottle during the Home Run Derby.
The baseball star, 30, was seen feeding his 11-month-old daughter on the sidelines of Monday night's MLB game in an ESPN broadcast.
One fan slammed the sports star for fulfilling his fatherly duties - taking to X, formerly known as Twitter, in an attempt to call out Rooker.
'Hey Rooker... did you really need to feed your baby on camera? Sometimes people just want to see you play,' the disgruntled viewer wrote in the post.
But the doting dad hit back, writing: 'Yes, it was necessary to feed my 11-month-old child her night time bottle at like 9.00pm.'
'Thank you for asking,' he sarcastically concluded.
Rooker shares Blake Eloise, 11 months old, and Blair Evelyn, three years old, with wife Allie Oliver.
The Home Run Derby is the MLB's annual home run hitting competition, which serves as the lead-up to the MLB All-Star Game on July 15.
Rooker, who is a designated hitter and outfielder, hit 17 home runs but was eliminated in the first round of the competition.
The athlete doubled down on his family time after the game, sharing a joint post on Instagram with the official Athletics' Instagram account.
The adorable snap featured a photo of his family of four and was captioned: 'Proud of our guy,' along with a green and yellow heart, which are his team's colors.
The athlete was holding baby Blake in the snap, who herself was clutching a plastic water bottle, with his wife and elder daughter seated either side of him.
Fans were quick to share their thoughts on the Rooker's hands-on parenting.
'Seventeen home runs and feeding your kid... that's Boss status,' one user cheered.
Another chimed in: 'Tell him Rook! Some people don't get it. As a dad, I loved it. Better than your homer.'
'Sometimes people think it's cool to see you being what your kids know you for and that's being Dad. Fellow Dads know,' agreed a fan.
'Good on you! You're a dad 24/7 and sometimes you have to do stuff like that,' praised someone else.
Rooker often shares pictures of his family to Instagram. Last August, the baseball pro announced that he and his wife had a new addition to their family in a post shared online.
'We are thrilled to have welcomed Blake Eloise into the world on 8/14/24,' he wrote in his caption. 'Allie, Blair and I are already so in love with our newest addition.'
Rooker also took to social media after the competition to congratulate Seattle Mariners' player Cal Raleigh, who won his first All-Star Home Run Derby.
'What a blast! It was an honor to compete against those guys and fulfill a childhood dream,' he wrote in a post on X.
He continued: 'Congrats to Cal and everyone else who made it a great night! Still hard to believe I get opportunities to do things like this.'

Author of tell-all Gwyneth Paltrow biography reveals actress' stark response to her interview request

The author of Gwyneth Paltrow 's new biography has revealed whether or not the Goop goddess herself has cracked open the book - and how she responded when the writer asked to interview her for it. Writer Amy Odell, who wrote Anna Wintour 's biography in 2022, is releasing a tell-all about the famous actress that will hit stands on July 29, and it seems like it's going to be juicy. It takes a look at her entire life thus far, as the daughter of actress Blythe Danner and Bruce Paltrow. Snippets from the new biography have already been leaked, and it includes tales from former Goop staffers, details of her late '90s relationship with Brad Pitt, and the end of her friendship with pop legend Madonna. However, it doesn't seem like Paltrow had much to do with the book, nor really wanted to. In a new interview with Vanity Fair, Odell revealed whether or not she had heard from Paltrow or her 'people' about the upcoming tell-all. 'I was in touch with her team over the course of the three-year process, pretty much most of that time,' Odell shared. She explained that she asked Paltrow's team over the course of those three year if the actress wanted to speak with her. 'Right around the time I finished, I got a no,' Odell said. The author also admitted that she had 'no idea' if Paltrow had read the book. 'You would have to ask her,' the author told Vanity Fair. During the interview, Odell also shared what she believes Paltrow's legacy is - at least, so far. 'I think that she will probably be less remembered for her acting roles, no matter how iconic, than her impact with Goop, which I would argue showed the world how much money people will spend and how much effort they will undergo to be well, no matter what science and experts tell us,' she said. The new biography has already revealed a lot, including the reason why her relationship with Ben Affleck ended in 2000. An excerpt obtained by People reads: 'Their physical chemistry couldn't overcome his self-destructive impulses, which may have even included cheating on her.' According to Odell, after the couple broke up, Paltrow, who was allegedly drawn to Affleck's intellect, said, 'I love men, even though they're lying, cheating scumbags.' And it was noted by the biographer, 'Her friends had reservations about him, because he didn't always reciprocate her affection. 'He at times seemed more interested in playing video games with the guys at his house than being with Gwyneth.' Elsewhere in the coverage of Paltrow and Affleck's romance, Odell penned: 'She spoke openly about how much she enjoyed their sex life. She told [makeup artist and her friend Kevy] Aucoin one day that she loved when Affleck [engaged in a certain sex act].' The exes starred alongside each other in two films during their coupling - 1998's Shakespeare in Love, which earned Paltrow an Oscar, and 2000's rom-com Bounce.

Famed Wanamaker Organ will again be heard by the public in fall art series in Philadelphia

One of the most famous organs in the world, which graces one of Philadelphia 's favorite public spaces, was at risk of going quiet this spring when Macy's closed up shop in the city's storied Wanamaker Building. But countertenor Anthony Roth Costanzo, the avant-garde opera star hired last year to run Opera Philadelphia, is leading an effort to let the public again enjoy the Wanamaker Organ, a National Historic Landmark-designated treasure. The organ boasts more than 28,000 wood and metal pipes hidden behind a soaring wall of gold-leaf pipes that frame the building's seven-story marble atrium. Costanzo, with $1 million in philanthropic funding, is organizing a series of public performances this fall — including opera, ballet, theater and drag — before renovations begin next year on the building's conversion to a retail and residential hub. The first event is set for Sunday, Sept. 7. 'John Wanamaker, when he built this Grand Court, said he wanted it to be the intersection of arts and commerce, and that's why he put the world's largest pipe organ into it,' Costanzo told The Associated Press in an onsite interview Thursday evening. 'This space is operatic,' he said. 'So I thought it was a perfect umbrella to bring in every arts organization I could, and all these different collaborators.' The organ was made for the 1904 World's Fair in St. Louis. Wanamaker, a successful merchant and civic leader, had it moved to his new emporium next to City Hall in 1909 and then hired a crew of 40 pipe makers to enlarge it so the sound filled the vast space. A decade later, famed conductor Leopold Anthony Stokowski performed there with the Philadelphia Orchestra as 15,000 people crowded into the great hall and mezzanines. With the merchandise now gone, the acoustics rival those of the great cathedrals, Costanzo said. 'The organ for the first time is in perfect cathedral acoustic condition, so it will be the best way to hear this instrument in the history of the space, because there's actually nothing in there,' he said. The building's new owner hopes to continue to incorporate art and culture into their plans, which include retail on the lower floors and office and residential space above. The organ adds unique challenges. 'You've got this organ music going in the grand atrium, but meanwhile you've got other uses on these upper floors looking into that space, so you have to figure out how to make that work for everybody,' said Jon McMillan, a senior vice president of TF Cornerstone, the New York-based development firm. Local civic groups, in an announcement Friday, said they hope to raise funds to bring back one of the city's most beloved annual events, a holiday light show that drew generations of families to the store. Costanzo, who continues to perform around the world, believes he can build enthusiasm for the arts by bringing it to the places where people gather, including the Wanamaker Building. And he hopes that, in turn, will help people find a way to connect with each other. 'This space is so deeply embedded in the emotion of Philadelphia,' Costanzo said. "I want them to come to Wanamaker and discover something they've never seen before.'

Reports: Yankees acquire 3B Ryan McMahon from Rockies

July 25 - The New York Yankees are acquiring third baseman Ryan McMahon from the Colorado Rockies in exchange for two minor league pitchers, multiple media outlets reported on Friday. The Yankees reportedly will send left-hander Griffin Herring and right-hander Josh Grosz to the Rockies to complete the deal for McMahon, who was viewed as one of the top available positional players on the market. New York is in need of a full-time third baseman, with Oswald Peraza and Jorbit Vivas recently platooning at the position. McMahon, 30, is batting .217 with 16 homers and 35 RBIs while starting a majors-best 100 games at third base this season with the Rockies. He is owed $16 million for each of the next two seasons before being slated to become a free agent. An All-Star in 2024, McMahon is a career .240 hitter with 140 homers and 452 RBIs in parts of nine seasons with Colorado. Herring, 22, is the Yankees' No. 8 prospect, per MLB Pipeline. He is 7-3 with a 1.71 ERA in 16 appearances (all starts) this season split between Single-A Tampa in the Florida Gulf League and High-A Hudson Valley. Grosz, 22, is 4-8 with a 4.14 ERA in 16 appearances (15 starts) with Hudson Valley. --Field Level Media
