Samsung TriFold's biggest rival could come with upgraded cameras and a new chip

Paul Jones / Android Authority
TL;DR HUAWEI's upcoming Mate XT 2 is set to build on its original tri-fold phone with modest spec improvements.
Upgrades include the Kirin 9020 SoC, a new 50MP variable aperture main sensor, an enhanced periscope telephoto camera, and satellite connectivity.
The Mate XT 2 is tipped to launch in September, while Samsung's tri-fold is expected in October.
We're all hyped up about Samsung's upcoming tri-fold phone, rumored to be called either the Galaxy G Fold or the Galaxy Z TriFold, depending on which rumor you believe. While the phone will be a technological marvel in its own right, it won't be the first tri-fold phone. HUAWEI holds that title with the HUAWEI Mate XT, and we now have leaked specs for its successor.
Leaker Digital Chat Station has shared the specifications for the next iteration of the HUAWEI Mate XT on Weibo. The leaker cited TENAA regulatory listings for a phone with model number GRL-AL20 to indicate that HUAWEI has received a certification for 5G support.
The successor to the Mate XT is expected to be a minor upgrade to the original tri-fold phone. For its specs, the Mate XT 2 (presumed name) is said to feature the Kirin 9020 SoC and satellite connectivity (possibly only in China). Upgrades are said to come in the form of a new 50MP large-pixel sensor with variable aperture and some improvements to the periscope telephoto camera.
Paul Jones / Android Authority
Despite these minor upgrades, HUAWEI is a strong competitor against Samsung, primarily because it already has a big lead with the Mate XT. The Mate XT Ultimate Edition featured a Kirin 9010 SoC, 16GB RAM, up to 1TB storage, a 5,600mAh battery with support for 66W wired and 50W wireless charging.
The camera setup consisted of a 50MP f/1.4-f/4 primary sensor, a 12MP periscope telephoto for 5.5x optical zoom, a 12MP ultrawide, and an 8MP selfie camera. The OLED displays steal the show, with the three setups possible: 10.2-inch fully unfolded, 7.9-inch when folded once, and 6.4-inch when fully folded. It does cost an eye-watering €3,500, but bleeding-edge tech comes at a cost.

The Mate XT 2 is expected to launch in September, while Samsung's tri-fold is expected in October. Samsung definitely has its task cut out for itself, though the playing field is tilted in its favor thanks to availability in Western markets.

The best Good Luck modules get One UI 8 support with new features

Hadlee Simons / Android Authority TL;DR Good Lock modules like Home Up, MultiStar, NavStar, and QuickStar have been updated with support for One UI 8. Home Up's update also brings several new features and improvements to the DIY Home Screen feature. One UI 8 stable is expected to reach many more smartphones across Samsung's lineup in the near future. The Galaxy Z Fold 7, Flip 7, and Flip 7 FE are out, and they are the first phones to get stable One UI 8 update. With their launch done and dusted, we expect Samsung to begin rolling out stable One UI 8 to the rest of its lineup very soon. In anticipation of an impending rollout, Samsung has updated its HomeUp and MultiStar Good Lock modules to support One UI 8, so power users feel right at home with the update. We've spotted updates for MultiStar as well as for NavStar and QuickStar modules that makes them compatible with One UI 8: Zac Kew-Denniss / Android Authority As you can see, the MultiStar module has been updated to v10.0.32 with support for One UI 8. This update also brings an exclusive 'Launcher widget' feature for the Flip 7 and two new settings for all multi-window support devices. The App Screen Size Conversion setting provides an icon for easy switching between full, landscape, and portrait modes, whereas the Portrait Mode Screen Ration Adjustment setting lets you toggle between 16:9 and 21:9 ratios. The NavStar and QuickStar modules have also been updated with support for One UI 8, but their changelog doesn't contain any other interesting tidbits. Speaking of interesting, Home Up is one of the most prolific Good Lock modules you can install on your Samsung Galaxy phone. As spotted by Sammy Fans, it has received a healthy update that bumps up compatibility with One UI 8 and brings a ton of new features. Several of these features are for DIY Home Screen, like alignment guides, item grouping, edit lock, floating toolbar, and more. Other changes include Page Indicator Hiding for a clean home screen, Horizontal Scrolling in 'Alphabetical Order' mode, HomeUp Quick Access pop-up, app launch animation tuning settings, and more. Combined, these are substantial updates to some of the most prolific updates, and the newer features will be appreciated once more phones get their stable One UI 8 update. Got a tip? Talk to us! Uber's New Way to Reach Chinese Travelers Runs Through WeChat

Uber has found its way back to users in China, just not on Chinese roads. It's targeting Chinese outbound travelers by partnering with the app nearly everyone in China uses: WeChat. Uber on Monday announced the launch of a Mini Program inside Chinese social media superapp WeChat (called Weixin in China). The program allows users to book and pay for rides in other countries without downloading the Uber app or entering foreign payment information. Uber said travelers can simply log in with their WeChat account, search for a ride and pay through WeChat Pay or WeChat Pay HK, depending on their region. The feature is already live in Hong Kong and Japan and will expand to nine more markets, including the U.S., U.K. and France. 'By embedding Uber into Weixin, we're making overseas travel easier for Chinese users at every step,' Pradeep Parameswaran, head of mobility for Uber, said in a release. 'We want to meet riders wherever they are, and for Chinese international travellers, that means Weixin.' While it's convenient, this move also helps Uber stay relevant to a large and growing group of outbound travelers from China. More than 130 million went abroad last year, a number expected to rise in 2025. 'This is not a re-entry into the domestic market,' Uber spokesperson Chris Brummitt told Skift. 'It's a strategic initiative focused exclusively on outbound Chinese travelers. It aligns with Uber's global growth strategy of embedding its services into the platforms people already use.' Brummitt didn't comment on whether the WeChat integration will expand to other Uber services, like Eats and Courier. He said, 'Uber Eats is not part of the initial launch.' How the Uber Mini Program works within the WeChat app. Source: Uber Uber's China history Uber formally launched in China in February 2014, but struggled to stay afloat with the then Uber CEO Travis Kalanick saying that it was losing about $1 billion a year. Uber faced tough competition from Chinese ride hailing app Didi Chuxing, more popularly known as Didi. Then on August 1, 2016, Didi announced it would acquire Uber China, valuing the business at $35 billion. As part of the deal, Uber received 5.89% of the combined company, equal to a 17.7% economic stake in Didi. In April 2019, Uber's S‑1 filing ahead of its IPO revealed that its Didi stake had fallen to 15.4% after new investments diluted its share. Instead of taking on Didi again, Uber is now playing to its strengths. It already operates in many top destinations for Chinese tourists and is making it easier for them to use Uber abroad. 'Uber expects material growth in gross bookings and active users starting from Day One of the rollout,' Brummitt said. Why WeChat Matters For many Chinese users, WeChat is more than a messaging app. It's where they pay bills, shop and book services through built‑in Mini Programs. According to Uber, Weixin Mini Programs has 1.1 billion monthly users. That massive audience is exactly who Uber wants to reach. Talking about the Uber Mini Program, Freedom Li, president of Weixin Pay International Business, said, 'We are dedicated to providing a 'local‑like' digital convenience globally, and Uber's integration strengthens Weixin's cross-border digital ecosystem.' Brummitt further said the Uber Mini Program is fully localized for Chinese users, with simplified Chinese support, familiar navigation and WeChat Pay integration. 'This ensures a seamless and intuitive experience for travelers. Travellers use their Weixin login and Weixin Pay to search, book, and pay for rides,' he said. Explaining the choice of launch markets, Brummitt said: 'We chose Hong Kong and Japan for the initial rollout because they have strong tourism appeal for Chinese travelers.'
