Disgraced BBC Presenter Jimmy Savile's Home Damaged By Fire

The Scottish home of notorious British TV and radio personality has been damaged by fire.
BBC News reports that emergency services attended a blaze Saturday evening at the cottage in the picturesque area of Glen Coe, north of Glasgow in the west of Scotland.

Police Scotland said: 'Emergency services attended and the fire was extinguished by Scottish Fire and Rescue Service.
'Inquiries are ongoing to establish the full circumstances.'
Savile, who died in 2011, owned the cottage for over a decade – it has been repeatedly vandalised since his crimes of rape, sexual assault and paedophilia came to light following his death.
The disgraced presenter was one of the UK's most familiar public figures. Besides his long career in radio and TV, he raised millions for charity and befriended both members of the royal family and senior politicians. At one point in the 1980s, he served as a friendly liaison between the estranged Prince and Princess of Wales, and he spent one Christmas at the country home of then prime minister Margaret Thatcher.
However, following his death an inquiry by the BBC – where he worked for decades – as well as several criminal investigations established that he had abused his high profile to prey on young women wherever he found them, and has become labelled as one of the biggest sex offenders in UK history.
Fire fighters were able to control a blaze in one of the outbuildings of the property, whose new owners have been granted permission to transform the property into a completely different dwelling.

British soldier arrested in Kenya over what UK media report is a rape accusation

LONDON (AP) — A member of Britain's armed forces has been arrested in Kenya and U.K. military police are investigating, the Ministry of Defense said Sunday. The BBC and other British media reported that a British Army soldier was accused of rape. 'We can confirm the arrest of a Service person in Kenya,' the defense ministry said in a statement. 'As the matter is the subject of an ongoing investigation by the Defence Serious Crime Command, we will not comment further.' A U.K.-Kenya defense cooperation agreement allows thousands of British soldiers to train in the East African country each year. About 200 U.K. troops are based there permanently to train Kenyan soldiers. Some Kenyans have long complained about the soldiers' behavior and the atmosphere around their training camp near the town of Nanyuki. There was an outcry over the 2012 death of 21-year-old Agnes Wanjiru, who was last seen alive leaving a bar with British troops near their training camp. Her body was later found in a septic tank. Wanjiru's family has campaigned for years for the suspected perpetrator, a serving British soldier at the time, to be charged. In April, U.K Defense Secretary John Healey met with Wanjiru's relatives in Kenya and vowed to 'help the family secure the justice they deserve.' The British Army has launched an inquiry into allegations of unacceptable behavior by U.K. personnel in Kenya. The Ministry of Defense said in a statement that all British personnel in the country 'have clear direction about how to behave, on and off duty, must complete mandatory training and attend compulsory briefings on conduct. We will have zero tolerance for unacceptable behavior.'

The Latest Update About ‘Dept. Q' Season 2 On Netflix

Dept Q While the Netflix Top 10 list may be mostly dominated by the likes of Ginny and Georgia and Sirens, one new show is sliding under the radar, even if it never landed a #1 spot. That would be Dept. Q, the new British murder mystery series starring Matthew Goode as a traditionally reckless-but-brilliant cop tasked with solving cold cases. It may sound cliché, but it's quite good, and has racked up an 84% critic score and a very high 94% audience score. Now, fans want answers about a season 2. It's not time to worry…yet. No, the show is not a miniseries which would discourage a season 2 ruling this out, and despite that, no, it has not been renewed yet. But Dept. Q only was released at the very end of May, and it hasn't even been out two weeks yet. That's not particularly long for Netflix, and we often see renewals a month or more after release if we're not talking about blockbuster hits. There are some updates here, namely what the cast thinks of all this. Here's star Matthew Goode via Deadline: And here's actress Chloe Pirrie who plays Merritt Lingard to Cosmo: Deadline said they believe there is 'zero doubts' about a second season, and one point in the show's favor is that it's based on a series of books, and there are ten of them for a sprawling amount of source material. I'm not going to go full Deadline here and say there are 'zero" doubts that Dept. Q gets renewed for season 2, but I am leaning in an optimistic direction. Netflix loves crime series. There's lots of source material to pull from. It has been well-received by critics and viewers. It has a stellar cast but not a wildly expensive one, and the same is true for being a grounded crime series rather than some huge blockbuster. All the signs are there that this is going to work out, but fans should be patient as for most Netflix series, this kind of thing doesn't happen overnight. Family of Race Across The World's Sam Gardiner ‘overwhelmed' by support

The family of Race Across The World contestant Sam Gardiner have issued a message of thanks for the love and support following their son's death and also thanked people for donations to a fundraising campaign set up in his memory. The 24-year-old, who competed in the BBC One series alongside his mother Jo, died following a car crash last month. A JustGiving page launched in his memory by his family, in aid of National FASD (Fetal Alcohol Spectrum Disorder), has so far raised more than £10,000. His mother said: 'We have been overwhelmed by the tens of thousands of messages of love and support on social media and in comments to press reporting. 'We would like to thank the BBC, Studio Lambert and everyone at Race Across The World production, fellow contestants and fans of the show for all their support at this terrible time. It has been very comforting to know that Sam touched so many people. — Race Across The World (@RATW_official) June 1, 2025 'I have been particularly moved by all the messages that Sam was an inspiration to many who have been impacted by Fetal Alcohol Spectrum Disorder. 'We adopted Sam and he was diagnosed with FASD. As viewers of season two will recall, this was a big challenge both for Sam and for us as his parents. 'National FASD helped us on that journey. If some good comes of this tragedy, it will be that FASD is better understood.' Mr Gardiner was driving a white Volkswagen Golf R estate when it came off the road and rolled before landing on its side. The accident happened on the A34 in Gatley, near Cheadle, on Monday May 26 and he died on May 29 from his injuries, his family said last week. Broadcast in March 2020, Sam and Jo ventured across Mexico and Argentina as part of the second series of the BBC show. Mr Gardiner's father Andrew said: 'When the news broke last week, friends asked how they could help. View this post on Instagram A post shared by NationalFASD (@nationalfasd) 'After some thought, I decided to set up a JustGiving page to raise money for National FASD in memory of Sam. The page is called Sam Gardiner; Super Human. 'I set the target at £500 thinking a few friends might be generous enough to make a donation. So far it's raised 20 times that. It's very humbling to see the RATW family rally to this worthy cause.' The National Organisation for FASD says on its official website that it 'provides support to people with Fetal Alcohol Spectrum Disorder, their families and communities, campaigns to raise public awareness, and promotes relevant policies and practices'. The website also describes FASD as resulting 'when prenatal alcohol exposure affects the developing brain and body.. It says: 'FASD is a spectrum. Each person with FASD is affected differently. 'While more than 400 conditions can co-occur, FASD is at its core a lifelong neurodevelopmental condition. All people with FASD have many strengths. Early diagnosis and appropriate support are essential, especially for executive functioning.' A message on the official National FASD Instagram account said: 'Sam lived his life full of love, exuberance and adventure as seen on BBC's Race Across the World. 'National FASD is both humbled and honoured to help carry on his legacy via donations coming from hundreds.' A private funeral will be held later this month.
