Hyderabad school's annual nursery fee of Rs 2.5 lakh sparks debate

India Today5 days ago
A private school in Hyderabad is under fire after its sky-high fee structure went viral on social media. The post, shared by Anuradha Tiwari, founder of the Dharma Party of India, featured the annual fees charged by Nasr School — with nursery alone costing a staggering Rs 2,51,000.'Now, learning ABCD will cost you Rs 21,000 per month. What are these schools even teaching to justify such a ridiculously high fee,' Tiwari asked in the caption of her post.advertisementThe detailed fee sheet also showed Pre-Primary I and II (PPI 1 and PPI 2) at Rs 2,42,700, Classes 1 and 2 at Rs 2,91,460, and Classes 3 and 4 at Rs 3,22,350 annually.
Take a look at the post here:
The comments on the post reflected growing public concern over the affordability of private education in India.'If one cannot afford the fees, don't send your kids to this school. Simple and straight,' a user said as another countered, 'This entire process has become a sort of scam. Certain things need to be regulated effectively.''Is there a compulsion to get one's kid educated in this school only? Irrespective of other aspects, such schools flourish because parents want to pay and get that additional cushion of satisfaction. Happy schooling,' another user added.Several comments drew comparisons with schools in other regions. 'This is still cheap. A few schools in NCR charge upwards of Rs 1 lakh only as tuition fee for nursery students,' a user said. Another added, 'I am curious. What's so special about these schools? How is it any different from the schools which cost Rs 1 lakh per year?'One of the users added, 'Very sad. Education is too costly.'Nasr School has not yet responded to the controversy.- EndsTune InTrending Reel

Tamil Nadu farmers urge to revise subsidy scheme to include removing mud from well

COIMBATORE: Farmers have urged the agri-engineering department to revise the norms of a subsidy scheme aimed at renovating abandoned agricultural wells. They claimed that the current subsidy only covers the construction of retaining walls around the wells, not the work of removing soil and mud. The farmers stated that the state government has launched a pilot project to provide a subsidy for renovating abandoned wells on agricultural land. The scheme, implemented through the agri-engineering department, selects one or two wells in a district and offers a maximum subsidy of Rs 2.5 lakh per farmer for the renovation. K Balakrishnan, secretary of the youth wing in Kaushika Neer Karangal, said, "Due to the depletion of groundwater, most wells on agricultural land were left without water. As a result, farmers abandoned them without maintenance. The government has since implemented a groundwater recharge project, and the water level in some parts of the district is now increasing. The government is currently providing a subsidy under a pilot project to renovate abandoned wells in some districts."
