Manny Pacquiao issues cutting 11 word response to Eddie Hearn 'mockery' claim over world title boxing comeback
The Pacman takes on Mario Barrios for the WBC welterweight title in Las Vegas on July 19
Boxing legend Manny Pacquiao insists he will let his fists do the talking in his controversial comeback fight for the WBC welterweight world title next month.
Despite not having stepped into the professional ring for nearly four years, the 46-year-old takes on current champion Mario Barrios in Las Vegas on July 19, with the WBC's rules stipulating that former title holders are immediately considered as potential opponents during a voluntary defence.
The decision to hand eight-division world champion Pacquiao, who last won a bout against Keith Thurman in 2019, a world title shot has attracted its fair share of criticism in boxing circles, with many arguing that the ageing star should not have been granted a license to fight again in the first place.
One of those vocal critics is Matchroom Boxing CEO Eddie Hearn who reckons Pacquiao's comeback at the top level is making a mockery of the sport.
He said: "You can't just be out for five years, like already be done and then come back, have a couple of exhibitions, look terrible, and then phone up the WBC and say 'stick me in at number' — what's he five?
"But also, it is a business and I do understand but it just makes a little bit of a mockery of the world championships.
"And Barrios is not the greatest world champion but I think he's better than what we saw the last time out, when he boxed on the Mike Tyson card, and I think he'll beat Manny Pacquiao quite handily.
"I'm happy for Manny but it just should work out like that, and you'll see a shot legend in the ring, which I think is quite sad.
"But, listen, if he wants to do it and he's got the will to do it, good luck to him. But I just don't think you should be out five years, not fight anybody, and then just stroll back into the rankings because you're Manny Pacquiao.
"Do the fight, but it shouldn't be for the world championship, in my opinion.
"But I don't think he has a chance at all, even though Barrios has showed no great form. I think he'll just be too young and strong for him.'
The Filipino flash has now hit back at the promoter with an 11-word response as he continues his training camp for the showdown with Barrios.
Asked about Hearn's remarks, a smiling Pacquiao replied: "Just watch on July 19th. It will be a good fight."
Barrios, 30, has also warned his much older opponent that he is fully intending to get the job done in devastating style on the night.
Speaking to YSM Sports Media, the Mexican-American fighter said: "I am going in there with our game plan.
"I am going in there with bad intentions. At any point, if I see I have him hurt, it's kill or be killed in there. I see I have him hurt, I am trying to get him out of there.
"If the roles were reversed, he wouldn't take it easy on me. It's just the reality of the sport, it's kill or be killed in there."

Wimbledon holder Barbora Krejcikova an injury doubt
The world number 17, who defeated Jasmine Paolini in the women's singles final at SW19 last year, was due to face France's Varvara Gracheva in the quarter-finals at Devonshire Park. Barbora Krejcikova is an injury doubt ahead of her Wimbledon title defence after withdrawing from the Eastbourne Open due to a thigh problem. Czech player Krejcikova initially felt the issue on Wednesday during her second-round victory over Britain's Jodie Burrage. The injury worsened overnight and, with her opening match at Wimbledon scheduled for Tuesday, the 29-year-old is awaiting the outcome of a scan. 'I'm very sorry to have to withdraw from my quarter-final today in Eastbourne as I'm having some soreness in my right thigh,' said Krejcikova. 'Overnight it just didn't get any better; it actually got worse. I think it's better with Wimbledon in the next couple of days just to rest it and to see what's going on and to resolve that.' Krejcikova played two gruelling, three-set singles matches on the south coast. Having saved two match points en route to defeating British number four Harriet Dart in two hours and 40 minutes in round one, the second seed saved three more in her tie-break triumph over Burrage, which lasted two hours and 24 minutes. British singles interest in the tournament ended with quarter-final defeats for Billy Harris and Dan Evans in the men's draw. Read more: Harris was beaten 7-6 (4) 6-1 by French world number 20 Ugo Humbert. Evans, who registered a standout second-round win over world number 13 Tommy Paul on Wednesday, later lost 6-2 6-3 to American lucky loser Jenson Brooksby, who will take on Humbert in the last four. 'It was really difficult conditions; Jenson played a good match, he was probably better than me today,' said Evans. 'It was a very quick turnaround. It was not easy but that's tennis, you have to recover and get back out there. 'I'm not sure what time he finished yesterday but I think it was a lot earlier than me and it just felt all very quick today.' Defending men's champion Taylor Fritz – the American world number five and a three-time Eastbourne winner – overcame compatriot Marcos Giron 7-5 4-6 7-5 in Thursday's final match. The top seed will face sixth-seeded Spaniard Alejandro Davidovich Fokina, who beat 19-year-old world number 17 Jakub Mensik 6-4 7-5, in the last four. Australian 19-year-old Maya Joint backed up her second-round victory over British number one Emma Raducanu by reaching the semi-finals with a 6-4 7-5 success over Russian Anna Blinkova. Former French Open finalist Anastasia Pavlyuchenkova awaits Joint after she beat fellow Russian Kamilla Rakhimova 6-2 2-6 6-0, while 20-year-old Filipino Alexandra Eala will take on Gracheva in the other semi-final following her 6-1 6-2 win over Dayana Yastremska.

Hamza Igamane may leave Rangers amid interest during transfer window
The 22-year-old joined Gers as a relatively unheralded signing last summer on a five-year deal from AS FAR in his homeland. After a slow start to his Ibrox career, Igamane burst to prominence with a double in the 4-1 Europa League win away to Nice in November and went on to notch 16 goals in his first season in Scotland. The forward's form last term has caught the eye of Lille, who are reportedly poised to make an eight-figure bid for the striker. Marseille have also been linked with Igamane. Rangers are likely to be open to cashing in on the striker if their valuation is met as they strive to rebuild their squad under new American ownership and a new manager in Russell Martin. Igamane's fellow striker Cyriel Dessers is also attracting interest in Europe, with AEK Athens and Feyenoord keen on the Nigerian. Gers have already added midfielder Lyall Cameron and full-back Max Aarons this summer while they have been in discussions with Leicester defender Conor Coady and have been linked with Liverpool left-back Owen Beck.

So, 128 million people would disagree with you, that it wasn't something amazing.'
