Applications Open for Cohort 9 of 'Raise" to Empower Startup Founders in Investment Readiness

Spring Venture Services announced that applications are now open for the 9th cohort of 'Raise: The Art of Fundraising,' a two-week intensive bootcamp designed to equip startup founders with the skills and knowledge needed to secure investment and scale their businesses. The programme is supported by The Labour Fund (Tamkeen) to prepare startups for institutional fundraising, with participation in the ongoing StartUp Bahrain Pitch Series as one milestone along the way. The programme is facilitated by Spring Venture Services, and global venture capital firm Salica Investments, providing founders with capital, expert in-house capability, and access to MENA's leading investors to increase the likelihood of startup success. Since its inception, 'Raise' has successfully conducted eight bootcamps in preparation for 16 StartUp Bahrain Pitch events, helping 114 startups refine their investor readiness and secure essential funding. The programme provides entrepreneurs with hands-on workshops, fireside chats, and one-on-one office hours, ensuring they gain a strong foundation in fundraising, pitching, and business strategy. A key highlight of the programme is the StartUp Bahrain Pitch Series, where participating startups will have the opportunity to showcase their businesses before an esteemed panel of leading regional venture capitalists and investors. These events are organised in collaboration with key industry stakeholders, including the Ministry of Industry & Commerce, the Labour Fund (Tamkeen), Bahrain Economic Development Board, and Bahrain Development Bank (BDB), and StartUp Bahrain. The events conclude with the announcement of the 2 winning startups, which receive a cash prize deployed against key milestones, along with potential further funding and support from programme partners. Commenting on the success of Raise, Ali Mohsen founder of DOO, a winner of the 16th edition of StartUp Bahrain Pitch, stated, 'Raise was instrumental in refining our fundraising strategy and connecting us with investors. The mentorship and expert guidance we received gave us the confidence and tools to take our business to the next level.' The upcoming cohort will feature enhanced networking opportunities and increased access to industry leaders, potential partners, and investors. Startups will also participate in an Investor Mixer, where they can pitch their businesses to a network of investors.

The program aims to strengthen the kingdom's entrepreneurial ecosystem and encourage Bahraini youth to transform their innovative ideas into successful ventures. Through this program, Tamkeen offers Bahrainis with feasible business ideas, idea-stage startups, or early-stage startups the opportunity to join an intensive advisory program focused on developing key entrepreneurial skills, said Tamkeen in a statement. The program provides participants with the tools needed to turn their business concepts into viable business models or successful ventures. This edition of the program will feature two tracks: one offering training in Arabic and another in English, which aims to maximize the participation and impact to a wider audience. Speaking on the occasion, Chief Growth Officer Khalid AlBayat, emphasized the importance of supporting entrepreneurship and continuing to launch initiatives that encourage the youth to take that leap. "We are proud of the positive outcomes Mashroo3i has achieved over the past years and look forward to even greater success with this edition. This program plays a pivotal role in providing tailored guidance and mentorship to help transform a business idea into a reality, under the supervision of experienced experts in entrepreneurship who accompany participants throughout their journey," stated AlBayat. "These ideas are transformed into entrepreneurial ventures that contribute to creating job opportunities for local talent and positively contributing to the Kingdom's economic development," he added. According to him, the finalists will have the opportunity to receive Tamkeen's support to cover the products and services needed to launch their business ventures. "The support will be disbursed in phases based on achieving certain business milestones. The areas covered include machinery and equipment, marketing and branding, technology, minimum viable product (MVP) design, and patent," he noted. Mashroo3i program aligns with Tamkeen's strategic priorities for 2025, which focus on enhancing the position and competitiveness of Bahrainis in the private sector, equipping Bahrainis with suitable skills for career development in the private sector, and prioritising enterprise growth, digitisation, and sustainability.

The Labour Fund (Tamkeen) partners with Reboot Coding Institute, backed by French educational platform 01Edu, to train 750 Bahrainis to continues its efforts in training Bahrainis in full-stack development. This partnership builds on the success of Tamkeen's collaboration with Reboot over the past two years which saw 350 Bahrainis join the institute's coding programs. Notably, sixty of Reboot's students secured quality job opportunities in the private sector, some of them succeeding to pursue a new career path in the tech sector from different backgrounds such as financial services, engineering, and others. Reboot Coding Institute offers specialized training programs spanning a two-year period with the purpose of empowering individuals who don't have tech skills to graduate as full-stack developers ready to enter the technology sector. This is done through an innovative training approach that utilizes 'learning by doing' and a project-based methodology. The training also focuses on employment readiness and matching the skills with the labor market requirements. Reboot also supports its students with job-matching by partnering with a number of private sector enterprises and hosting job fairs. His Highness Shaikh Isa bin Salman bin Hamad Al Khalifa, Chairman of the Board of Trustees of the Isa bin Salman Educational Charitable Trust and Chairman of the Board of Directors of the Labour Fund (Tamkeen), today chaired Tamkeen's Q2 2025 Board of Directors Meeting. The meeting reviewed Tamkeen's achievements during the first half of the year, outlined the strategic priorities for 2025, and provided updates on support extended through its three main packages: Employment Support, Career Development Support, and Enterprise Support. His Highness underscored the importance of investing in Bahraini talent to cultivate a skilled national workforce. This vision is pursued by creating further opportunities for Bahrainis to upskill and enhance their capabilities, empowering them to excel across various sectors, in line with the directives of His Majesty King Hamad bin Isa Al Khalifa and the unwavering efforts of His Royal Highness Prince Salman bin Hamad Al Khalifa, the Crown Prince and Prime Minister. Furthermore, His Highness issued directives to launch programmes that support SMEs in adopting cutting-edge technologies to drive business growth. These efforts align with the previously announced initiative to train 50,000 Bahrainis in artificial intelligence, as outlined in the last Board of Directors meeting. During the meeting, Maha Abdulhameed Mofeez, Chief Executive of Tamkeen, presented an overview of Tamkeen's accomplishments in the first half of the year. These included support for over 7,700 Bahrainis entering the labour market, more than 9,200 Bahrainis benefiting from training and career development initiatives, and assistance extended to over 3,600 enterprises across various sectors to foster growth, drive digital transformation, and enhance productivity. The Board was also briefed on key upcoming plans aligned with Tamkeen's strategic priorities for the year. These priorities focus on enhancing the competitiveness of Bahrainis in the private sector, equipping them with future-ready skills, driving enterprise growth and digitisation, and strengthening the broader ecosystem surrounding the labour market and private sector.
