Body Of Air India Crew Member Lamnunthem Singson Reaches Manipur, Thousands Bid Her Farewell

The body of Air India cabin crew Lamnunthem Singson, who died in the Ahmedabad plane crash on June 12, reached her hometown in Manipur's Kangpokpi district on Thursday night, after being flown to Dimapur airport in Nagaland.
The 26-year-old was among the 241 passengers and crew aboard Air India Flight AI 171, which crashed just seconds after takeoff.
Her body was flown from Ahmedabad to Dimapur on an IndiGo flight, and received by family members, community representatives, and officials at the airport.
On the way from Dimapur to Kangpokpi by road, the convoy halted for a few minutes in the Nagaland capital to allow Kuki Union Kohima and Kuki mother's to bid her farewell and pay tribute to the departed soul, a cousin of Singson told PTI.
"Normally we (the Kuki people) don't hold last rites at the night. Most likely it will be held tommorow. Today, there will be prayer sessions and other traditional funeral related programmes," he said.
Earlier in the day, a solemn programme was held at Dimapur airport to receive the body of Singson.
On the occasion, floral tributes were paid by officials and representatives from several organisations, including the Kuki Community Dimapur, Kuki Students' Union Nagaland, Naga Council Dimapur, Dimapur District Citizens Forum, Zeliang Youth Organisation Dimapur, Chumoukedima Kuki Union, and the Nagaland Pradesh Congress Committee.
The groups offered condolences to the bereaved family and paid their last respects to the departed soul.
Originally from Old Lambulane colony in Imphal, Singson's family relocated to Kangpokpi in 2023 following the outbreak of ethnic violence between the Meitei and Kuki communities in the state.
Tragically, another cabin crew member from Manipur, Kongbrailatpam Nganthoi Sharma, who belonged to the Meitei community, also died in the same disaster. Her body are yet to arrive in the state.

A female doctor allegedly threatened to crash an Air India Express flight. Dr Vyas Hiral Mohanbhai, 36, from Yelahanka, was taken off the flight after the incident, according to The Indian Express. But what led to the disturbance? Officials said the trouble began when Dr Mohanbhai asked cabin crew to carry her hand baggage, which she had left near the front row, to her assigned seat at 20F. Despite several attempts by the crew and the pilot to calm her down, she reportedly refused to cooperate. She also shouted at other passengers who tried to speak to her, NDTV reported. The pilot and crew then called airport security and CISF personnel, who removed her from the aircraft. According to the complaint, the incident went on from around 2.45 pm to 5.30 pm on June 17. Police added that her aggressive behaviour continued at the KIA police station, where she allegedly abused and assaulted officers. 'This was the first time we heard such abusive language in the station,' a senior officer told Business Standard. STORY CONTINUES BELOW THIS AD Her husband, who works at an educational institute in Bengaluru and is originally from Odisha, told police she had stopped working as a doctor and was travelling to Gujarat to visit family. He also told the publication that she had caused similar public disturbances in the past. What is the punishment for such behaviour? The Bengaluru International Airport Limited (BIAL) police booked Dr Mohanbhai under sections 351(4) (criminal intimidation by anonymous communication) and 353(1)(b) (statements causing public mischief) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita, and under section 3(1)(a) of the Suppression of Unlawful Acts against Safety of Civil Aviation Act, which covers acts of violence on board that may put the flight's safety at risk. In a separate case on the same day, Sadaad Mohammad Baba, 22, from Srinagar, reportedly tried to force his way through departure gate 8 at Terminal 1 of the airport. When CISF personnel stopped him, he allegedly pushed a security officer. Police booked him under sections 132 (assault or criminal force to deter public servant from discharge of his duty), 221 (obstructing public servant in discharge of public functions), and 329(2) (criminal trespass) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita. The London-bound flight crashed soon after taking off from Ahmedabad airport. It struck the BJ Medical College Hostel near the airport, leading to the deaths of around 29 people on the ground. Manipur: Normal life affected in Kuki-dominated Churachandpur after Indigenous Tribal Leaders Forum enforces shutdown, roads blocked and... Life came to a stop in Manipur's Churachandpur district on Friday after a tribal group called for an indefinite shutdown. The protest was held after an elderly Kuki woman was killed during a gunfight. Shops and markets stayed closed, and there were very few vehicles on the roads. Members of the Indigenous Tribal Leaders Forum (ITLF), including many women, were seen blocking roads with sticks in their hands, demanding justice for the woman. The woman, named Hoikholhing Haokip, died in a crossfire between security forces and some unknown armed men on Thursday evening. The incident took place in the Langchingmanbi and Heichanglok areas, where the security forces had gone for a search operation. The armed men fired at the security team, and a gun battle followed. Sadly, Haokip was caught in the firing and lost her life. Due to the shutdown, government offices had low attendance, and schools and colleges were shut. The ITLF blamed the central government for not doing enough to protect tribal people and their land. They demanded a proper and fair investigation into repeated violations of buffer zones areas meant to separate communities during this ongoing conflict. At the same time, a 24-hour shutdown also began in Kangpokpi district from 1 PM on Friday. The protest was supported by the Committee on Tribal Unity and other local groups from Churachandpur. Since May 2023, over 260 people have died, and thousands have become homeless due to ethnic clashes between the Meitei and Kuki-Zo communities. On February 13, the central government imposed President's rule in Manipur after Chief Minister N. Biren Singh stepped down.
