Jr NTR
is one of India's most celebrated actors today with a career spanning decades and impactful performances. However, back in 2006, during the filming of his movie 'Ashok', the 'RRR' star found himself at the center of widespread media speculation regarding an alleged relationship with his then-co-star,
Sameera Reddy
.
This throwback takes us back to the time when rumors about a link-up between these two prominent figures dominated headlines, capturing the imagination of fans and the media alike.
Sameera breaks silence on rumours
Fast forward to 2020, Sameera Reddy decided during an interview with Prema The Journalist shared that her friendship with Jr NTR was "blown out of proportion." She described herself as a "very friendly and straightforward girl," and revealed that her relationship with Jr NTR was purely a close friendship.
"He is a wonderful co-star who taught me a lot," Sameera said, noting that Jr NTR was initially perceived as an aloof and quiet person, but they got along well on set.
How the rumours affected her personal life
However, the actress shared how the excessive attention on their supposed relationship diverted focus from her work. "People were only talking about us. They were not talking about my movies, or what I am capable of. The focus went from Sameera Reddy to Sameera NTR,' she lamented.
The rumors became so overwhelming that her family, especially her father, who is an Andhra Reddy man, faced uncomfortable questions from their community.
This pressure heavily influenced Sameera's decision to distance herself from Telugu cinema.
Moving away from Telugu cinema
"I just distanced myself and stopped talking to him after 'Ashok'," she explained. Sameera decided to shift her career focus towards Tamil cinema and Bollywood to escape the persistent rumors. Despite the difficulties, she expressed gratitude towards Jr NTR for being a supportive co-star throughout.
On the work front, Sameera Reddy was last seen in the Kannada film 'Varadhanayaka.' Jr NTR, meanwhile, will next appear in 'War 2' alongside Hrithik Roshan and Kiara Advani. The movie will be released on August 14.
