Vijay Mallya Performed Sameera Reddy's Kanyadaan: 'He Gave Me Away To The Groom'
Last Updated: Sameera Reddy once revealed Vijay Mallya did her kanyadaan and opens up about her love story with husband Akshai Varde. Vijay Mallya is no stranger to headlines—be it for his flamboyant lifestyle, legal controversies, or his past connection with the IPL team Royal Challengers Bangalore. But amid all the buzz around RCB's recent IPL win, an unexpected story from his personal life has caught public attention: his special role in actress Sameera Reddy's wedding. In a 2014 interview with DNA, Sameera revealed that it was Vijay Mallya who performed the kanyadaan at her wedding. 'Only Vijay Mallya, who is related from my mother's side, gave me away to the groom. That apart, there were only friends and family," she had shared. Though not a direct blood relative, Mallya, connected through her maternal side, was the one who walked her down to the mandap in a touching gesture that many fans hadn't heard about before. The wedding itself was a low-key affair, attended only by close friends and family. But before the big day, Sameera's love story with now-husband Akshai Varde had its own twist of fate—and it didn't start off as perfectly as one might expect. Speaking to the Free Press Journal, Sameera once described how her relationship with Akshai began during a promotional event for her film Tezz. As part of the campaign, she had to ride a motorcycle, and that's when she met him—he owned the company involved with the event. 'It was my lucky day because the owner of the company Akshai Varde, came too. It was love at first sight for me. I was besotted and I almost dropped the bike while riding it. He seemed to be more worried about the bike than me. Funny that he didn't even consider dating me or look at me in that way. I had to make all the first moves and yes I asked him for his number first!" she had said. That bold move led to a real-life romance, and the two eventually tied the knot. Sameera Reddy movies Sameera Reddy first stepped into Bollywood in 2002 with Maine Dil Tujhko Diya, starring opposite Sohail Khan and Sanjay Dutt. She later made a mark with performances in films like Musafir, Taxi Number 9211, Race, De Dana Dan, and Tezz. Despite stepping back from acting, she remains a popular figure on social media, known for sharing honest insights into motherhood and body positivity. First Published:

When Vijay Mallya performed the 'Kanyadaan' of a famous Bollywood actress during her marriage
Business tycoon Vijay Mallya has once again made headlines—this time for reasons that go beyond cricket or courtroom battles. Following Royal Challengers Bengaluru 's long-awaited IPL win, Mallya, the franchise's original owner, took to social media from the UK to celebrate the team's victory. But as fans revisit his legacy in sports and business, a lesser-known personal anecdote has caught public attention—his unexpected role at actress Sameera Reddy 's wedding. In a 2014 interview with DNA , Sameera Reddy revealed that Mallya, who is related to her from her mother's side, performed the kanyadaan ritual at her traditional Maharashtrian wedding to entrepreneur Akshai Varde . 'Only Vijay Mallya, who is related from my mother's side, gave me away to the groom. That apart there were only friends and family,' she said at the time, describing the ceremony as intimate and devoid of any Bollywood razzle-dazzle. TOI-Online Sameera Reddy once revealed in an old interview that Vijay Mallya, her relative from her mother's side, gave her away at her wedding to Akshai Varde in 2014. 'Isn't this the best way to do it?' she said, explaining their decision to pre-pone the wedding originally planned for April. 'Months of painful planning causes so much stress… Akshai said, why not. I said, why knot? Ha ha. And we said, 'I do.' Sameera and Akshai bonded over their mutual love for motorcycles. 'Akshai saw me whizzing past on this really mean macho machine. I think he was impressed,' she laughed in the DNA interview. Their relationship, she said, blossomed away from the spotlight. Instagram vs Reality: ‘You only see 2% of what motherhood really looks like'
Sameera Reddy showcases her unfiltered self on social media. The life of a momfluencer often appears flawless. Their homes are immaculate, their style impeccable, and their children often match them in adorable outfits. They boast sleek strollers, beautiful nurseries, and seemingly possess the best parenting advice, whether it's managing screen time or optimising nap schedules. These posts depict an idealised version of motherhood – or what society often expects it to be. However, this portrayal only reveals one side of the story, typical of much of social media. A growing number of momfluencers are now pulling back the curtain to reveal the messier realities of parenting. Fatigue, frustration, and insecurity – these less glamorous aspects of motherhood are finding space on social media platforms. Former actress Sameera Reddy , who's Instagram bio proclaims 'I'm Messy Mama', admits she's been harsh on herself – and she didn't want other moms to go through the same. 'I showed my grey hair, back fat, stretch marks...I didn't care. A lot of people said, 'Bollywood ki Sameera Reddy kahan gayi?' and unfollowed me. But I was glad. Because I needed a safe community for people to be themselves.' by Taboola by Taboola Sponsored Links Sponsored Links Promoted Links Promoted Links You May Like Want Lower Bills Without Changing a Thing? elecTrick - Save upto 80% on Power Bill Learn More Undo That sense of community is what keeps her going. Today, she's found her tribe, and her brand collaborations are selective — she only partners with products she truly resonates with. In the beginning, I would get mortified with the things people would say. 'Arre buddhi ho gayi, moti hai, aged hai.' But now I am not afraid to show my dishevelled self. The more I say it, the more responses I get Sameera Reddy on showing struggles of motherhood on social media Kamana Gautam, a mother of two, also felt the need to connect with like-minded mothers. 'There are trolls, yes, but there are also people who understand you and are going through the same journey,' she says. That said, she stays away from brand endorsements. 'I can't endorse something I can't afford myself.' For digital creator Silky Singh, social media became a space to vent. 'I live with my three children, husband, and in-laws. Sometimes, it gets frustrating to do the household chores and manage the kids. I was surprised to see how many moms related when I started sharing my frustrations.' Behind the posts: What you don't see The untold chaos behind photos is also finding its way to social media. 'People are seeing just 2% of the life that other mothers are posting,' says Kamana, who often receives comments about her tidy home. But, she explains, the effort behind those polished frames is rarely shown. 'I remember posting one story about how we were dining at a restaurant. I wrote, 'Though we are fine dining, my husband and I fought just before this.' And I got so many messages saying, 'Thank you for saying this – I thought we were the only ones.'' Karishma echoes the sentiment. 'If you see a glamorous photo shoot, just know that behind the scenes is a messy house, crying toddlers, and burnt food on the stove.' Silky, of the Instagram page Parenting Trio, says she's had to leave shoots midway when her toddler needed attention. (L) The Instagram account of Kamana Gautam, a mother of two, candidly reflects the emotional and physical challenges of childbirth and motherhood. (R) Silky Singh's handle is about 'raw, real and beautifully imperfect' motherhood. Momfluencers are rejecting the pressure to be perfect. Sameera, whose candid and comedic parenting reels strike a chord with mothers, recalls, 'When I got on to social media, I was taken aback by how pressured it was to look very perfect... I didn't like that, I got a lot of anxiety.' Things shifted after the birth of her daughter, Nyra. 'One of the things that changed in me was the thought of Nyra growing up in a world where everyone is looking at you and pulling you down if you do not look a certain way... then something needs to change - and that change had to start with me,' the Darna Mana Hai actress says. Kamana, who was already promoting conscious living online, realised that many mothers were silently struggling. 'We don't usually see the real side of motherhood on social media,' she says. 'I don't want to fake it because the more you fake it, the more stressful it becomes.' Mom blogger Karishma K, who has 199K followers, may share adorable moments with her son Karanveer – but doesn't hide the chaos behind those moments. 'I get messages asking how I reduced my belly fat – I tell them it's still there. It's just how I dress in those yoga pants,' she laughs. 'The job of a content creator might seem glamorous, but it is not. Everything is curated.' In today's time, when editing tools completely change how you look in real life, I wanted to show the reality. I showed my scars, and what a postpartum body looks like Kamana Gautam, a mother of two, on posting photos showing her real body after childbirth Keep it raw and real Momfluencers are choosing honesty over perfection. Instead of polished photos and perfect videos, they're showing the real side of motherhood. Sameera often shows up online without makeup, proudly displaying her grey hair and pimples. 'I show my dishevelled self. I say that I am exhausted. I don't shy away from showing anything,' she says. For her, it's about being true to herself and not succumbing to pressure. 'Don't become a slave to social media. Be honest with yourself about how difficult it is to keep up with it all,' she says. Kamana agrees with the sentiment. She believes pretending to be perfect only makes things more stressful. 'Just be real. Every mom influencer should create a village of their own by sharing their real journeys.' Together, these moms are changing the face of influencer culture . By being raw and real, they're helping other mothers feel seen, understood, and less alone. - Arushi Jain Get the latest lifestyle updates on Times of India, along with Mother's Day wishes , messages , and quotes !

From 92 kgs to 81 kgs: Sameera Reddy shares how she lost 11 kilos with.. In the glitzy and glamorous world of Bollywood, people are obsessed with staying fit and looking young. Many people resort to beauty trends to get quicker results. Real transformation requires persistence, strength, and discipline, which is not everybody's cup of tea. However, there is one such actress and mother of two who doesn't believe in fad diets or filters, instead, she has taken the sustainable route for her overall well-being and transformation. The person we are talking about is none other than actress Sameera Reddy. The 'De Dana Dan' actress lost almost 11 kilos in one year and is currently inspiring everybody with her transformation, not by going for quick fixes or striving to be skinny but just by focusing on ageing healthily, creating strength, and being present with herself. Wake-up call for Sameera came on her birthday, 14 December 2024, when she realised she was frustrated with weight fluctuations. 'It actually started when I realised that constantly yo-yoing with my weight wasn't sustainable'. The perpetual yo-yo of weight loss was unsustainable, and the quest for slenderness was not worth the physical and emotional toll. Her epiphany? Long-term health was all about accepting consistency, not quick fixes. Rather than following extreme trends, she concentrated on developing healthy habits—exercising 4–5 times a week and prioritising fitness no matter how busy life became. Her exercise became her self-care, not a punishment for eating. Sameera refrained from fad diets and began paying attention to portion control and well-balanced meals. She even further said that banning certain food groups or starving does not bring sustainable outcomes. 'There are no severe restrictions,' she stated, mentioning that one needs to facilitate her workouts by feeding the right stuff, but not through deprivation. Sameera also emphasised the emotional side of transformation- 'You have to be your own biggest cheerleader.' Though her family was supportive, she stressed that change really starts from within. 'Not everybody is going to cheer you on, and that's okay. You have to show up for yourself,' she told others to do vision boards, set goals, and have faith in the process. Her journey serves as a reminder that wellness is not about chasing skinny bodies but about feeling strong, confident, and grounded in your own skin, on your own terms.
