Asia is playing an integral role in the Global GDP: OECD Report

New Delhi, July 11 (UNI) The Organization for Economic Co-Operation and Development (OECD) has highlighted the growing Asian economy behind driving the global Gross Domestic Product or GDP to a major extent. The OECD is a global organization that aims to promote policies for economic and social well-being across the world.
Reportedly, the Asian economy contributes to almost 31% of the Global GDP, and the vibrant region is home to approximately 55% of the world's premier companies.
Asia is playing a great role in public equity markets, especially for the growth-hungry companies. While other major areas of the Asian capital markets remain underdeveloped and struggling to join the mainstream economic line.
Despite the fueled market-based financing in the Asian region, corporate financing in multiple Asian countries is still linked to banks, with a high share of credit value to the banks.

Three Wheelers defy market slump as auto industry navigates challenges

Mumbai, July 15 (UNI) India's automotive sector delivered a mixed performance during the first quarter of FY2025-26, with most segments registering marginal declines despite record achievements in select categories, according to Society of Indian Automobile Manufacturers (SIAM) data released here today. Passenger vehicle sales dipped 1.4% year-on-year to 1.01 million units, though crossing the million-unit threshold for the second consecutive Q1. The segment witnessed divergent trends: utility vehicles grew 3.8% to command 66% market share, while passenger cars declined 11.2%. Exports surged 13.2% to 204,000 units - a quarterly record - fueled by Middle Eastern, Latin American, and emerging market demand under preferential trade agreements. Two-wheeler wholesales fell 6.2% to 4.67 million units amid industry-wide inventory corrections, despite 5% retail growth driven by wedding season demand. Scooters gained 2.15% market share within the segment, while exports jumped 23.2% to 1.14 million units on revived neighboring markets. Three-wheelers emerged as the standout performer, achieving historic Q1 sales of 165,000 units with 0.1% growth. Urban transport demand boosted passenger carriers, while cargo variants rode intracity logistics growth supported by easier financing. Exports soared 34.4% to 96,000 units. Commercial vehicle sales declined marginally by 0.6% to 223,000 units. "While three-wheelers achieved their highest-ever Q1 performance, other segments faced headwinds," stated SIAM Director General Rajesh Menon, noting passenger vehicles and two-wheelers contracted 1.4% and 6.2% respectively. Industry leaders express cautious optimism for Q2, banking on festive season demand, potential rural recovery from forecasted above-normal monsoons, and improved affordability from the Reserve Bank of India's 100-basis-point cumulative rate cuts. Supply chain concerns persist, particularly regarding China's new export controls on rare earth magnets critical for EV manufacturing. UNI AAA BM

Yuvraj Singh aims to revolutionise golf ecosystem

New Delhi, July 15 (UNI) The highly-anticipated Indian Golf Premier League (IGPL) today announced the onboarding of Indian cricket legend and golf enthusiast Yuvraj Singh as a co-owner and the brand ambassador. To achieve their mission of strengthening the foundation of the sport in India, IGPL has also signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the Indian Golf Union (IGU)— the official governing body for men's amateur golf in India. The landmark agreement underscores their joint commitment to nurturing emerging talent and building a sustainable pathway for India's Olympic golf aspirations. IGPL alo recently received support from the Sports Ministry and Yuvraj's addition to the elite board further sets the stage for the league to bring on a true transformation in the overall golfing ecosystem. Expressing his delight over his association with the IGPL, Yuvraj said, 'It is a matter of great excitement to join the IGPL team and have the opportunity to promote this incredible sport in a fresh avatar. Despite being one of the most popular sports in the world, golf is still considered to be a niche sport and a fast-paced and quick format is exactly what is needed to expand to more audiences, athletes and make golf more spectator friendly." "The tournament will also help in grooming Indian golfers and will help in their development with added opportunities. We are confident IGPL will help in popularising the sport among the masses in India along with providing a platform to golfers across the board to build their capabilities and compete,' he said. Uttam Singh Mundy, CEO of IGPL, also revealed the league's bold international ambitions, stating: 'IGPL is not just India's league—it's India's gift to global golf. We will be taking our tour internationally in the very first year itself, creating opportunities for our players to compete globally and for international golfers to experience India's emerging golf scene.' Furthermore, to promote inclusivity in golf, IGPL has also partnered with Women's Golf Association of India (WGAI) to elevate women's golf and provide structured, high-visibility platforms for female athletes. IGPL will be hosting India's first-ever professional league tour to feature both men and women playing on the same platform, competing across franchise teams and regional circuits. The integrated format not only redefines how golf is played in India but also reflects their commitment to promote inclusive excellence and athlete empowerment. Further, to create an overall impact on the ecosystem and to funnel rising talent into the league, IGPL tour will be played across different cities in the build-up to the first edition of the league between September and December. They will also be onboarding mentors and legends of the sport to ensure the franchise teams have the best exposure and guidance to bring together an engaging competition and exposure to the athletes across the board. IGPL is also tying up with various schools and universities in India to make steadways in developing grassroots talent, and to bring on talent to compete in IGPL Tours. UNI BM
