From eco-friendly threads to silver and oxidised designs, these rakhis are not just enhancing the festive spirit but also empowering rural women with self-employment.
With training and support from Jharkhand State Livelihood Promotion Society (JSLPS), women are using traditional, silk, and organic materials like paddy, rice, mauli thread, cotton, beads, haldi, and aalta to prepare over 25 variants of rakhis.
These are now available at Palash marts and special stalls in the district and block headquarters. This initiative has opened new income avenues for rural women while reviving traditional crafts.
Last year, women from 115 Sakhi Mandals across five districts generated around Rs 10 lakh in rakhi sales.
In Khunti district, Sakhi Mandal women are producing premium silver and oxidised rakhis under the 'Adiva' brand. The oxidised ones are priced between Rs 150 and Rs 200, while the silver rakhis range from Rs 800 to Rs1,200, offering customers elegant, handcrafted alternatives.
"Our women have acquired design skills and confidence. This is not just about income, it's about identity," said Nidhi Narsariya, a group leader from Ranchi.
In the state capital, these fancy rakhis are available at the Palash mart near Hehal and district stalls at affordable prices. Many buyers are opting for these eco-friendly and artisan-made options over factory-made products.
Launched in 2020 by chief minister Hemant Soren, the Palash brand now covers over 30 food and non-food products.

Advances grew 11.6% YoY, but core net interest income slipped 0.1% to Rs 41,072 crore as net interest margin contracted 33 bps to 3% due to RBI rate cuts and delayed deposit repricing. Chairman C S Setty said NIMs will follow "a U-shaped trajectory... probably moderate in Q1 and Q2... (and) come back to what we had at the Q4 level of last year", while aiming for 3% on an annual basis. Non-interest income surged 55% to Rs 17,346 crore, led by a 352% jump in forex income to Rs 1,632 crore and a 144% rise in profit on sale of investments to Rs 6,326 crore. The bank maintained its FY26 loan growth guidance at 12% and deposit growth at 10%, with Q1 showing corporate advances up 5.7%, domestic retail up 12.6% and the overseas book up 14%. "I believe we are still thinking that, and I am hopeful that we will be coming back to double-digit growth in the corporate markets," Setty said, citing a strong project finance pipeline and easing uncertainties. Large corporate and mid-corporate balance sheets are "very robust" and "much better positioned today than they were seven or eight years ago". Asset quality remained stable with "no concern on the slippages" and continued strength in retail personal loans. Home loans "will continue to have a robust growth rate", gold loans are "doing extremely well because of gold prices" and unsecured personal loans, or Express Credit, are "very safe" and seeing growth return. AAP and BJP spar over GST amendment bill
New Delhi: Chief minister Rekha Gupta on Friday said her govt was committed to simplifying tax administration, boosting compliance, and providing substantial relief to taxpayers and businesses. Speaking in Delhi Assembly on the Delhi Goods and Services Tax (Amendment) Bill 2025, which was introduced in the house on Thursday and passed on Friday, Gupta said the amendments aligned the Delhi GST Act with reforms passed in the central law, ensuring nationwide consistency in tax regulation. "This is a step towards simplification, transparency, and justice for taxpayers. Our aim is to promote business confidence while maintaining effective revenue governance," Gupta said. Addressing the House, CM said the first package of 45 amendments was approved in GST Council meetings held in July 2023, Oct 2023 and June 2024, focused on extending input tax credit timelines, simplifying registration and return filing, establishing the GST Appellate Tribunal, and launching an amnesty scheme for relief on interest and penalties. She added that the second package, passed during the 55th GST Council Meeting in Dec 2024, included 14 amendments aimed at strengthening enforcement and procedural clarity—such as penalties for non-compliance in track-and-trace systems, clarified ISD credit distribution, treatment of municipal funds, and streamlined appeal processes. by Taboola by Taboola Sponsored Links Sponsored Links Promoted Links Promoted Links You May Like Rosario: Unsold Sofas May Be at Bargain Prices (Prices May Surprise You) Sofas | Search Ads Search Now Undo You Can Also Check: Delhi AQI | Weather in Delhi | Bank Holidays in Delhi | Public Holidays in Delhi "Earlier, companies could not be traced for how much gutkha was being produced or sold. Now, with machine tracking and unique identifiers, govt will ensure full transparency," CM said. She added that the GST amnesty scheme alone led to Rs 218 crore in collections for Delhi as of 31 March, 2025, a clear sign of taxpayer responsiveness to the reforms. Gupta slammed Atishi, who held the finance portfolio for two years in the AAP dispensation, for raising questions on amendments passed in GST Council meetings she did not attend. She added that the former CM missed the 55th GST Council Meeting, where these reforms were approved. Gupta highlighted that Delhi's GST and VAT collections increased to Rs 15,535 crore in just the first four months of the 2025-26 financial year, up from Rs 14,500 crore during the same period last fiscal. The leader of the opposition in Delhi Assembly, Atishi, however, alleged that the new provisions in the Act would empower govt to demand paperwork in any format, creating anxiety and confusion among lakhs of small businesses. "On one hand, BJP is harassing local traders with arbitrary compliance rules; on the other, it is offering tax sops to SEZs, which are nothing but safe havens for their industrialist friends," Atishi charged, calling the bill discriminatory and demanding its withdrawal. She said many traders came to meet her and were worried about multiple clauses in the GST amendment bill. Stay updated with the latest local news from your city on Times of India (TOI). Punjab chief minister Bhagwant Mann and AAP national convener Arvind Kejriwal launch 24 industrial advisory panels
Chandigarh: Punjab chief minister and (AAP) national convener on Friday jointly launched 24 sector-wise industrial advisory committees, terming it as a new approach to industrial policy-making in the state. Tired of too many ads? go ad free now Kejriwal described the move as a "reverse trend", where the govt will no longer dictate terms but will instead implement decisions made by industrialists through these new bodies. He claimed that 99% of the decisions formulated by these committees would be put into practice. Kejriwal also accused previous govts of coercing industrialists, which he said drove industries away and pushed the state into a crisis. He added that 99% of the recommendations by the committees will be implemented to make Punjab the best industrial destination. During the event, CM Mann highlighted that the idea for these committees was born out of govt-industry consultations held in Sept 2023. He said each committee would be responsible for drafting detailed strategies tailored to its specific industrial domain. Mann asserted that while preparing the New Industrial Policy, these committees will ensure equal partnership from industry stakeholders. Mann urged all industrialists to actively contribute ideas and share their valuable suggestions in formulating industry friendly policies. The CM called on the industrialists to ensure that their recommendations reflect Punjab's industrial strengths, realistic challenges, and financial context. He said each committee would consist of a chairperson, a member secretary, and officials from the Punjab Bureau of Industrial Investment and District Industries Centres. Mann said the state govt ensured representation from large units, MSMEs, sub-sectors, and all regions to ensure inclusive decision-making. Tired of too many ads? go ad free now Kejriwal said the Mann-led AAP govt had taken steps to revive and grow the industrial sector. He lauded the Fast Track Punjab Portal as India's most advanced single-window clearance system, offering over 150 business services and eliminating the need for offline applications. Furthermore, he noted that under the Punjab Right to Business Act, investment proposals of up to Rs 125 crore can now receive in-principle approval within just three days. MSID:: 123188795 413 |
