Celebrations in store as Lionesses successfully defend European crown
Chloe Kelly scored the winning spot-kick following two huge saves from goalkeeper Hannah Hampton, sending supporters in fan zones into raptures.
The King said the team had the royal family's 'warmest appreciation and admiration' following their victory, adding: 'The next task is to bring home the World Cup in 2027 if you possibly can.'
The Downing Street reception on Monday is due to be hosted by Deputy Prime Minister Angela Rayner and sports minister Stephanie Peacock.
The team will then attend a homecoming celebration event on Tuesday, with a ceremony expected to take place outside Buckingham Palace.
Prime Minister Sir Keir Starmer hailed the team's triumph, saying: 'The Lionesses have once again captured the hearts of the nation.
'Their victory is not only a remarkable sporting achievement, but an inspiration for young people across the country.
'It stands as a testament to the determination, resilience and unity that define this outstanding team.'
There will be an open-top bus parade along the Mall before the ceremony at the Queen Victoria Memorial, the FA said.
Fans can attend for free and it will be broadcast live on BBC, ITV, and Sky.
However, it is understood Downing Street has no plans for a bank holiday to mark the Lionesses' triumph.
Supporters stood on tables, waved flags, threw drinks in the air and excitedly hugged each other as England claimed victory, while the Prince of Wales and Sir Keir watched on from the stands in Basel.

Alessia Russo gave the Lionesses hope of retaining their Euros title with her second-half equaliser after Mariona Caldentey netted the opener for Spain in the 25th minute.
In a statement posted on X after the game, Charles said: 'This brings you, your manager and all your support team my most heartfelt congratulations on winning the Euros 2025.
'For more years than I care to remember, England fans have sung that famous chant 'football's coming home'.
'As you return home with the trophy you won at Wembley three years ago, it is a source of great pride that, through sporting skill and awesome teamwork, the Lionesses have made those words ring true.
'For this, you have my whole family's warmest appreciation and admiration.'

The King added: 'More than that, though, you have shown through your example over past weeks that there are no setbacks so tough that defeat cannot be transformed into victory, even as the final whistle looms.
'Well done, Lionesses.'
A picture of the Prince of Wales with his arm around his daughter Princess Charlotte was posted to X following the presentation of the trophy to the Lionesses, with the caption 'champions of Europe'.
The pair congratulated the team in a short statement, saying: 'What a game! Lionesses, you are the champions of Europe and we couldn't be prouder of the whole team. Enjoy this moment England.'
The statement was the first message Charlotte has personally signed on the Prince and Princess of Wales's X account.
Tower Bridge was lit up in red and white following the Lionesses' victory, the City Bridge Foundation said.
Sir Keir was the first to congratulate England on their win – posting on X: 'Champions! Congratulations Lionesses – what a team. What a game. What drama.

William was spotted in the stands applauding and celebrating with those around him – including Princess Charlotte.
As the presentation ceremony took place, the Prince of Wales was among those to congratulate star striker Michelle Agyemang on being named young player of the tournament.
William exchanged words with Agyemang, appearing to say 'well played, fantastic, well done'.
Agyemang, 19, who had one England cap before the tournament, scored crucial equalisers in the Lionesses' quarter-final and semi-final comebacks.

There was non-stop applause in her home town of South Ockendon as fans saw the Arsenal forward step through a guard of honour to pick up her award.
Supporters at her old club Brandon Groves AFC danced a conga line to the sounds of Vindaloo after England's victory.
The club's vice-chairwoman, Paula Howes, said Agyemang will help give youngsters the 'motivation and drive' to progress from grassroots football to the top of the game.
She said: 'I think she (Agyemang) has got that determination and that drive on the pitch, and the girls can connect with that.
'It is also knowing that she is a local girl as well, I think that helps give them the motivation and drive, to know that you can start at grassroots football and progress up to the higher level, if you work at it.'
The National Autistic Society congratulated their ambassador Lucy Bronze on the Lionesses victory, adding: 'We hope she has inspired the next generation of autistic girls to follow their dreams.'
Culture Secretary Lisa Nandy also gave her reaction to the win, saying: 'What an absolutely extraordinary achievement by our Lionesses – once again they have made history and united the country with pride and joy.'
England's path to the final was marked by late drama.
They sealed their spot with a last-gasp extra-time win over Italy, following a penalty shootout victory against Sweden in the quarter-finals after nearly crashing out in extra time.

Here's everything you need to know about the next Women's World Cup, including when and where it's taking place: The Women's World Cup is held every four years, with the next tournament to take place in 2027. It is currently slated to begin on June 24, with the final a month later on July 25. Brazil will host the 2027 Women's World Cup, the first time the tournament will be held in South America. They won the hosting rights after beating a joint-bid from Belgium, Germany and the Netherlands. Eight venues in as many cities will be used, the largest of which is the Estadio do Maracana in Rio de Janeiro with a capacity of 73,139. We also know the hosts for the following two editions of the Women's World Cup, with the competition heading to the USA and Mexico in 2031. Then in 2035, football comes home to England, Northern Ireland, Scotland and Wales. While not official yet, the UK was the only country to submit a valid bid to host the tournament. 32 teams will battle it out for glory at the 2027 Women's World Cup. As per usual, there will be eight groups of four teams, with the top two in each group progressing to the knockouts. This will be the last Women's World Cup to use this format, with the competition expanding to 48 teams for 2031. Hosts Brazil are the only team guaranteed to be at the next Women's World Cup at the moment, with qualifying to be done in two phases. The best ranked teams who don't qualify from each confederation will however get a second chance at glory through the inter-confederation play-offs, which will take place just a few months before the tournament kicks-off. The draw for UEFA qualifying will take place on November 4, with the matches to be played from February to December 2026. Shortly after England's triumph at the Euros, Ian Wright named his favourite to win the 2027 World Cup. 'USA are the favourites, they're the ones to beat. They're so good, they're so good!' the Arsenal legend said on ITV. 'If we get anywhere near them I'd be really happy because they're the ones, they're major favourites. ‘Special' Max Dowman, 15, adds to Mikel Arteta's Arsenal dilemma as he shines in same position as Saka and Nwaneri
THE future is bright at Arsenal – but Max Dowman has shown glimpses of why he could make his mark in the here and now. Mikel Arteta has had his eye on 15-year-old Dowman for the past 12 months and regularly introduced him to first-team training sessions. That's how highly rated he is by everyone at London Colney, leaving most first-team players stunned by his progression, ability and unflappable nature. Even Arteta has been shocked by how quickly Dowman has become one of, if not the, most talented teenagers in the country, and it will now be a surprise if he is not named in most of Arsenal's matchday squads next season across all four competitions they are involved in. After travelling with the squad on their mid-season warm-weather Dubai camp back in February, the plan was always for Dowman and a select few others from the academy to fly to Singapore and Hong Kong. No one on the outside looking in could have guessed how much game time he would get in their opening two games in Singapore against AC Milan and Newcastle last week. A total of 55 minutes off the bench is not bad going, especially for someone who still needs to be managed, both physically with his slight and yet-to-develop muscular frame against elite man mountains, and mentally as he comes to terms with the pressure being on him as the golden boy of Arsenal's latest academy grads. Arteta has a history in guiding young talents and transforming them into first-team players faster than most would predict, just look at Ethan Nwaneri and Myles Lewis-Skelly. The pair were footballing nobodies at the start of last season – mere hopefuls – who looked their age, perhaps younger. BEST ONLINE CASINOS - TOP SITES IN THE UK Now, they have bulked up, matured on and off the pitch and look like Prem regulars, and in Lewis-Skelly's case, potentially England's first-choice left-back at next summer's World Cup. Arteta has known when to push them and when to give them some time away from the spotlight, a crucial period of development for any teenager adjusting to Prem football. Arsenal CONFIRM £63.5million Viktor Gyokeres transfer as striker takes iconic No14 made famous by Thierry Henry Nwaneri had just that after making his Prem debut aged 15 at Brentford in September 2022, waiting 17 months for his next one at West Ham in February 2024. Once Dowman makes his first Prem appearances, the clamour for him to push on at lightning speed will be huge. We have already seen what that could look and sound like on this tour. In Singapore, his name has been chanted at every game and he was hounded for autographs at the open training at the Singapore National Stadium. Arteta will have to be the party pooper more often than not in the early months of the season, but should he perform like he has done against Milan and Newcastle, the handbrake may have to come off sooner than expected. His touch, turn and dribble past several Newcastle players and into the box to earn a match-winning penalty in the final ten minutes last weekend shows what he can do against experienced players nearly twice his age. Arteta has used Dowman off the right so far, a position the youngster has played a lot in for the youth teams for club and country, cutting in and shooting – often scoring – with his left foot. Nwaneri played in a midfield three last season, but also on the right in Bukayo Saka's three-month injury absence, and Arteta has spoken previously of the 18-year-old potentially becoming a No9 later down the line. Dowman could now start his first senior Arsenal game against Tottenham on Thursday in Hong Kong, and the crazy thing is that it does not sound that... crazy. That's how quickly Dowman is progressing. Arteta called him 'special' after the Toon outing, and the Spanish coach does not chuck praise like that lightly. Last term, Arteta would bring up Dowman's name unprompted in answers to questions about squad depth. 7 He's been described as the best 15-year-old in the country Credit: Getty 7 Arteta has been sure to carefully guide him into first team football Credit: Getty We must be careful not to hype up too soon someone who has not yet turned 16, but it is hard not to when he is getting better with every minute he plays around world class players while showing he has the guts to step up in penalty shoot-outs, albeit a friendly one against Milan last week. Club captain Martin Odegaard and Declan Rice have acted as brotherly figures for him, but even they are struggling not to board the Dowman hype train. Last March, Rice claimed he was the 'best 15-year-old in the country'. With a loan move unlikely next season, Dowman is set to be a regular face on the bench as Arteta plots the talented kid's path from a nobody to a special somebody.
