Sagah urges inclusion of AI in school syllabus to prepare future workforce

Sarawak Minister of Education, Innovation and Talent Development Dato Sri Roland Sagah Wee Inn said Sarawak supported the idea but could not implement it at the state level, as education matters fell under federal jurisdiction. 'Yes. I cannot do it. It has to be the Ministry of Education Malaysia. They have to introduce a subject. Actually, there are so many subjects there — things like Reka Bentuk Teknologi and all that — they can reinvent it into other courses, including AI,' he said when met after launching the AI-Driven Talent: Shaping the Future of Sarawak Workforce Development programme at a hotel here today. Sagah was responding to reporters' questions on whether AI should be included in the school syllabus for the younger generation and if he was advising the Ministry of Education to take up the matter. The event was organised by KCOM Academy with support from Sarawak Digital Economy Corporation (SDEC) to prepare Sarawak's workforce for the digital economy. Elaborating further, Sagah stressed that exposure to AI must begin early so that children are not left behind as technology rapidly develops. He pointed out that some universities in Europe had already taken the lead by offering AI-related courses, which focus not only on technical knowledge but also on ethics and responsible use. 'In universities in Europe, they have already started courses in AI, and I believe with these courses, they also include ways to prevent any abuse. 'For us, it is very important that we ensure there is no abuse of AI. At the same time, it must be ethically and morally exercised so that there will be no decadence of society. The more we know about AI, the more we will know how to prevent all this,' he said. Earlier, in his opening speech, Sagah said the event was a crucial step in realising Sarawak's Post Covid-19 Development Strategy (PCDS) 2030, which aims to create 195,000 new jobs and raise the state's skilled workforce share to 30 per cent by 2030. 'Today's gathering is more than an event — it is a pivotal step in realising Sarawak's PCDS 2030. We are here to discuss AI-driven talent, but at its heart, this is about how we prepare our people, industries, and institutions for the opportunities and challenges ahead,' he said. He described AI as a 'force multiplier' that could enhance productivity, identify emerging skill demands, and personalise training pathways across various industries. Sagah also called on industry players to align themselves with the state's development agenda, particularly in the fields of green technology and renewable energy. 'As you can see, what our Sarawak government is doing — based on the policies of our new economy — industries that are coming up, especially in green technology and renewable energy, that is where they have to realign themselves because they are going to be the service providers. If not, they will be the ones starting their own industries,' he said. He added that universities and technical institutions in Sarawak were ready to provide training, reskilling, and upskilling to ensure graduates and professionals remain relevant. 'Together, we can shape a workforce that will not only thrive in the age of AI but define it. If we succeed, the story of Sarawak in 2030 will be one of innovation, prosperity, and shared opportunity,' he said. Wildberries signs agreement to advance entrepreneurship in Kyrgyzstan
BISHKEK, KYRGYZSTAN - Media OutReach Newswire - 19 August 2025 - Wildberries, a leading digital platform in Eurasia, has signed an agreement with Kyrgyzstan's Bakai Bank and the Russia-Kyrgyzstan Development Fund to advance the development of small and medium-sized businesses in the country. The agreement is aimed at supporting domestic entrepreneurship in Kyrgyzstan, promoting women's entrepreneurship and unlocking Kyrgyzstan's export potential by engaging local entrepreneurs in cross-border e-commerce, including via the Wildberries platform. Under the agreement, Wildberries will offer free training and assistance for Kyrgyz entrepreneurs who are launching their sales with Wildberries, in addition to helping with product promotion on the marketplace. The Russia-Kyrgyzstan Development Fund will provide informational and organizational support for the project, while Bakai Bank will offer favorable lending terms to project participants. 'We have been working in Kyrgyzstan since 2017—we see how fast e-commerce is growing in the country and are ready to invest our resources in innovation and infrastructure development,' said Rafael Abramyan, Director of International Business Development at the united company Wildberries & Russ. Kyrgyz sellers on the platform tend to be young and more often female. The agreement marks the first step toward the upcoming launch of the Growth Platform project in Kyrgyzstan—an international initiative co-organized by Wildberries that trains and assists sellers who are entering its marketplace. In June 2025, Wildberries announced the launch of the Growth Platform in Uzbekistan and is expanding the initiative to further markets.
