Tiger King star jailed for trafficking and laundering after buying chimpanzees, lions, tigers, cheetahs on black market

TIGER King star Bhagavan "Doc" Antle has been jailed for trafficking exotic animals and money laundering.
Antle, 65, was sentenced to one year and one day behind bars and fined $55,000 on Tuesday - two years after he pleaded guilty to the charges.

Prosecutors said Antle sold or bought cheetahs, lions, tigers and a chimpanzee without the proper paperwork for a decade.
They said he also laundered more than $500,000 so he could quickly get cash to buy more animals.
Antle's sentencing was heard in a federal courtroom in Charleston, South Carolina - five years after the true crime documentary Tiger King captivated a country shut down by COVID-19.
The show centred on dealers and conservationists of big cats, focusing on disputes between Joe Exotic, a collector and private zookeeper from Oklahoma, and Carole Baskin, who runs Big Cat Rescue in Florida.
Exotic is serving a 21-year federal prison sentence for trying to hire two different men to kill Baskin.
Antle appeared in the first season with Exotic and Baskin and was the star of the show's third season.
Authorities said he laundered money used in a human smuggling scheme because he needed large amounts of cash quickly to buy animals, including chimpanzees, lions, tigers, cheetahs, and other creatures.
Prosecutor Patrick Duggan said: "These animals are illegal to sell because they are endangered, and their high prices could encourage poachers to steal them from the wild.
"He was knowingly and illegally trading them as part of a black market that drives another black market of poaching and smuggling."
Customers would pay $200 for five minutes and photos with a baby chimp or $7,000 for a sleepover.
Antle would sometimes ride into tours on an elephant.

Antle's lawyers requested a sentence of just probation or home confinement, saying their client needed to care for the 150 exotic animals that consume 1,000 pounds (454 kilograms) of meat a day at his Myrtle Beach Safari.
They said many of the animals only respond to Antle.
About 25 friends and family packed a federal courtroom in Charleston.
Several told Judge Joseph Dawson III that Antle was generous and caring.
They said he raised hundreds of thousands of dollars to fight poaching and preserve wild habitats for tigers, lions and chimpanzees.
Federal guidelines called for about two years in prison, to which prosecutors agreed.
But Dawson said, although Antle broke federal law, all the evidence pointed to him caring for animals.
Antle apologized at the end of his sentencing hearing for causing problems for his life's work.
"I made a mistake, I did stupid things," Antle said, adding, "I hope I'll be able to pull it back together for everybody."
Antles Myrtle Beach Safari was known for charging hundreds or thousands of dollars to let people pet and hold baby animals like lions, tigers and monkeys that were so young they were still being bottle-fed.
The zoo remains open by reservation only.

Taylor Swift announces 12th album The Life of a Showgirl on boyfriend Travis Kelce's podcast

IT'S THE news Swifties have been waiting, as Taylor Swift has announced her 12th album The Life of a Showgirl on her boyfriend Travis Kelce's podcast. There was a huge buzz yesterday that the superstar singer, 35, would make her debut on her man's show, and she didn't disappoint. 6 6 6 6 Kelce, 35, and Taylor have been dating for two years, but this is the first time she has been on the podcast he shares with his brother, Jason Kelce. And to mark the occasion the All Too Well singer came armed with some MASSIVE news, that will thrill her fans around the world. The news was teased in a clip on social media, and saw Taylor produce a record case with "TS" written on it. She then said to Travis and Jason: "So I wanted to show you something." Tay Tay then pulled out a copy of a new album, although the cover was blurred. "This is my new album, Life of a Showgirl," she revealed, and gasps could be heard from her boyfriend and his brother. Fans can pre-order the album right now, but as of yet, there is no release date. It's been a good year for Taylor, who just months ago bought back the rights to her back catalog of music from Shamrock Capital, the private equity firm that acquired it from Scooter Braun's Ithaca Holdings. The deal was reportedly worth hundreds of millions, and included her masters, album artwork, music videos, plus her unreleased tracks. It meant her six year long battle to own her own work was finally over. Travis Kelce spotted showing Taylor Swift around his hometown as she's flanked by security detail Another big milestone for Taylor came last week, when it was reported that she had been house hunting with Travis as they plan for the NFL star's retirement. The Kansas City Chiefs star has committed to playing in the 2025 season but not beyond. The love-birds were spotted house hunting in Cleveland, Ohio. News outlet Cleveland Scene reported that the couple have viewed two luxurious homes that are currently for sale. They are located in Northeast Ohio's eastside suburbs. The places are described as "wealth abundant" and where babies are born with "fully funded 529 accounts". Taylor started dating Travis back in 2023 and they have quickly become one of the biggest power couples in the world. No doubt her new album will give fans even more of an insight into their relationship, much like the 2019 record Lover which was about her romance with ex-boyfriend Joe Alwyn did. 6

Aussie 'next-generation' feminist is slammed for her bizarre criticism about the way Taylor Swift chose to announce her new album alongside boyfriend Travis Kelce

A feminist commentator has shared a controversial opinion on the way Taylor Swift chose to announce her new album. The pop sensation, who is dating Chiefs star Travis Kelce, appeared as a guest on this week's episode of his podcast, New Heights, where she revealed that her 12th studio album will be called 'The Life of a Showgirl.' Hannah Ferguson, who has been described as a 'next-generation feminist' and runs the news commentary platform Cheek Media, had some thoughts on the pop star's announcement, which she shared with her 193,000 Instagram followers on Tuesday. 'YES I will be the first listener but imagine being one of the most successful women in the world and announcing your next huge career milestone on your boyfriend's sport podcast,' Ferguson wrote across an Instagram clip that showed her looking bemused. Ferguson's comments section was quickly filled with followers who were confused by her stance. 'Why yuck someone's yum? This is an exhausting take,' one person commented, while another said, 'This is a strange take.' 'Imagine having a huge audience of women and using that platform to denigrate the choices of other women, for no good reason? Disappointing,' someone else wrote. 'Ah yes, the kind of feminism that only supports women when they stick to the script. She's literally Taylor Swift and can do what she likes when she likes,' said one more. Others supported Ferguson's view, with one fan commenting, 'Hard agree. I get she wants to boost up his podcast but, I don't see why he has to be involved in such a huge announcement for her mammoth career. 'It's out of character for her to be on a podcast period, let alone announce a new album on there. Will listen regardless and love that she is happy but for us very long term Swifties we know this is a strange move.' Swift released her album news on August 12, and at the same time a clip appeared on the social media pages of New Heights, the podcast co-hosted by the Kelce brothers. 'So I wanted to show you something,' Swift, who is sitting alongside her boyfriend, tells Jason in the clip. 'What do we got?' he asks, while Travis smirks, sticks out his tongue and grows increasingly giddy. Swift released her album news on August 12, and at the same time a clip appeared on the social media pages of New Heights, the podcast co-hosted by the Kelce brothers Swift then digs out a personalized briefcase and opens it up. 'What's in it?' the elder Kelce brother asks. 'This is my brand new album, 'The Life of a Showgirl,'' Swift explains, pulling out the record. The album cover is blurred in the New Heights video. 'TS 12!' shouts Travis, who is now covered in glitter, while Jason screams: 'ARGH!!' Swift also had a countdown to the announcement on her website, which briefly crashed after the clock reached zero. Travis and his brother Jason co-host the popular show and supporters have long been calling for the Chiefs star's girlfriend to be brought on. Swift's appearance was first teased on Monday morning with a mystery silhouette that fans believed to be the pop star, before a 13-second clip confirming her presence.
