Scarlett Johansson on the challenges of dating outside the industry: ‘Easy to create a lot of jealousy'

Hollywood star Scarlett Johansson has opened up about the complexities that can come with dating someone who isn't part of the entertainment world. In a candid conversation with Stranger Things and Thunderbolts actor David Harbour for Interview magazine, the Avengers star reflected on how being with someone outside the industry can bring unexpected challenges.
'I've had serious relationships with people that were not in the industry, and I found one of the challenges was that the person had no idea of what I needed to do my job,' she said. 'Obviously, if I was dating an oncologist, I wouldn't know what they needed to do for their job. But it's not so abstract,' the 40-year-old actor added.
While Scarlett acknowledged that no profession is completely easy to understand from the outside, she pointed out that acting often brings unique pressures, especially when it comes to forming emotional connections on set. She suggested that the nature of her job—often requiring close bonds with co-stars—can become a point of friction for partners unfamiliar with the entertainment world.
'I also think it's easy to create a lot of jealousy when a person is not involved in the industry, because actors by nature are very free-spirited and they create very intimate relationships with people at work,' she explained. 'They can be loyal to a partner and also very engaged in all these other kinds of relationships, and I think it can be a blurry line for some people,' she added.
Another source of tension, Scarlett noted, is how public-facing an actor's life can be. 'Also, to have a relationship with the public can be a complicated thing for people outside of the industry to understand,' she said.
Scarlett shares her son Cosmo, 3, with current husband Colin Jost and daughter Rose, 10, with ex-husband Romain Dauriac. Her relationship history also includes previous marriages to art dealer Romain, whom she was with from 2014 to 2017, and actor Ryan Reynolds, whom she divorced in 2011.
She and Colin, who exchanged vows in 2020, recently made an appearance at the 2025 Cannes Film Festival to support her directorial debut Eleanor the Great. On the acting front, she was recently seen in Wes Anderson's The Phoenician Scheme and is gearing up for her next release, Jurassic World Rebirth, which will release on July 2.

Scarlett Johansson Felt ‘Cagey' While Working With Enormous Marvel Cast? Avengers Actress Says ‘Your Identity is Wrapped'

Scarlett Johansson reveals feeling cagey while starring alongside Avengers cast Speaking to the media portal, Scarlett Johansson shared that she felt like her identity was under wraps while starring alongside the Marvel cast. The actress explained, "Some of the films that I did for Marvel engaged my character more than others. Like in Captain America: The Winter Soldier with Chris (Evans), we were really dynamic.' The Lost in Translation star further stated, "In some of the other films, the cast was so enormous and there was so much plot to serve that you start to feel like you're a device to move it along. And if you're committed to five and a half months of that, it's like, 'Okay. I can't paint my nails; I can't get a haircut.'' The actress also added that those were just some silly problems, 'but your identity is wrapped up in this job for a long time, and if you're not doing engaging work as an actor, you feel a little cagey sometimes." Moreover, the actress is set to return to the screens with Jurassic World Rebirth, alongside Jonathan Bailey. The movie will be released on July 4.

Netflix unveils In Your Dreams trailer: Release date, voice cast, synopsis and all you need to know

Sometimes, your dreams are all you have. And sometimes they are all you want to run away from. Netflix's upcoming animated film In Your Dreams tries to capture the bizarre middle ground—the one where dreams spiral into chaos, comedy and just enough emotions to make you care. The trailer for In Your Dreams is loud, wild, and full of food… literally. Released by Netflix on Thursday, the teaser kicks off with a pair of siblings finding an old book titled The Legend of the Sandman. From there, it turns into a rollercoaster ride through a candy-coloured dream world, all while Eurythmics' Sweet Dreams plays in the background. Think zombie breakfast food, floating pancakes, or that weird situation where you are suddenly naked in public. Yes, they have put it all in. At the heart of In Your Dreams are Stevie and her brother Elliot. The two are not just trying to survive this surreal dreamland - they are on a mission. If they can push through the madness (which includes a very sarcastic stuffed giraffe and the queen of nightmares herself), the mysterious Sandman has promised them something pretty big: their dream of having a perfect family. From the looks of the trailer, the animation by Kuku Studios is quirky, colourful and a little chaotic. You can feel the energy pop right off the screen. Between doughnut towns and shadowy monsters, the visuals walk a fine line between dream and disaster. Check out the trailer below: The film features a voice cast as diverse as the dreams themselves. Craig Robinson lends his voice to Baloney Tony, the cheeky giraffe with a mind of his own. Simu Liu, Cristin Milioti, Jolie Hoang-Rappaport, Elias Janssen, Omid Djalili, Gia Carides, SungWon Cho and Zachary Noah Piser round out the cast. The creative team behind the film is just as impressive. In Your Dreams is directed by Alex Woo and co-directed by Erik Benson, from a script the duo wrote together based on a story by Woo and Stanley Moore. It is produced by Timothy Hahn and Gregg Taylor, with music composed by John Debney. Making a movie about dreams isn't new. But actually, finishing one? That's rare. Speaking to Variety during a footage screening and panel discussion at Netflix on June 6, Alex Woo said, 'A dream movie in the animated space has sort of been a white whale. I think every animation studio in the world has had a dream movie in development at some point over the last couple decades, but none of them have ever been made, because I think nobody could figure out how to give a dream movie stakes.' He added, 'I really wanted to make a movie that explores the question of: What do you do when your dreams actually don't come true? How do you find hope? How do you keep moving forward in life?'
