Popular educator Faizal Khan, widely known as Khan Sir, hosted a grand wedding reception in Patna on Monday. It also marked the first public appearance of his wife, AS Khan. Among the key attendees was Bihar's Leader of Opposition, Tejashwi Yadav, whose brief conversation with Khan Sir became the event's standout moment.
In a viral video from the reception, the Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD) leader is seen asking Khan Sir, "Kya hua, byah kab hua?" (What happened, when did you get married?).
Khan Sir responded, " Abhi jo India-Pakistan conflict chal raha tha, usi beech" (During the recent India-Pakistan conflict).

He added he followed Tejashwi Yadav's lead as far as keeping the wedding low-key.
" Model aap hi ka tha sir... chupchaap se karke baad main batana hai. 12-13 log the sir. Jaise aap kiye na, vaise hi. Humne socha kahan se copy karenge, aapka hi copy kar liya sir," he said. (I followed your model, sir. Get married quietly and announce it later. Just 12-13 people were there, just like you did. I thought, whom should I copy? So, I copied you.)
Tejashwi Yadav married his long-time friend Rachel Godinho in a private ceremony on December 9, 2021, at his sister Misa Bharti's farmhouse in Delhi's Sainik Farms. The event was attended by approximately 50 close friends and family members, including Samajwadi Party leader Akhilesh Yadav and his wife Dimple Yadav.
He, at the time, explained the low-key celebration was aimed to ensure both families had ample time to connect without the distractions of a large gathering. He also cited concerns about COVID-19 and to avoid the chaos experienced during his elder brother Tej Pratap Yadav's wedding.
Earlier, Khan Sir shared the news of his marriage with his students during a live class, saying they were the first to know. "My wedding date had already been set, but as tensions flared between India and Pakistan, we decided to keep it simple," he told them. He also announced a special feast for his students.
Monday's lavish reception was held at a luxury hotel in Patna and saw a distinguished turnout from both political and educational spheres. Dignitaries included Bihar Governor Arif Mohammad Khan, Deputy Chief Minister Samrat Chaudhary, Education Minister Sunil Kumar, Union Minister of State Raj Bhushan Nishad, Nitish Mishra, former minister Mukesh Sahni, and renowned educators Alakh Pandey (Physics Wallah) and Neetu Ma'am. The evening also featured a performance by the famed Sabri Brothers. Khan Sir's parents and extended family were also in attendance, making their first public appearance.

Census to begin April 2026, caste to be part of survey
NEW DELHI: The Census exercise, put on hold over five years ago due to the Covid outbreak, may start on April 1, 2026, ending with the population count to be taken with the midnight of March 1, 2027 as the reference date. The caste of each resident of the country will be recorded, in a first since the decennial headcount of 1931, as part of the exercise, which potentially holds the key to two other decisions of far-reaching significance - delimitation and implementation of women's quota in legislatures. Sources in the home ministry said the Census - the first one to capture data digitally - will follow a schedule similar to Census 2011; it will be held in two phases - the houselisting phase to be conducted non-synchronously over a 45-day period across states and UTs anytime between April 1, 2026 and Sept 30, 2026; followed by the population enumeration phase, which will also record caste this time, between Feb 9 and 28, 2027. The population count will be recorded as on March 1, 2027, followed by a revisional round from March 1 and 5, 2027. The snow-bound areas of Uttarakhand, Himachal Pradesh and J&K, along with Ladakh, will undertake population enumeration six months before the rest of India, that is, sometime in Sept 2026, with the midnight of Oct 1, 2026, being their 'non-synchronous' reference date. The exercise is an important data-source for delimitation and reservation of constituencies across all three tiers of govt. It provides a snapshot of the country's population at a given point of time and forms a critical input for planning and formulation of policy initiatives. Census tables also aid research in fields like demography, economics, anthropology, sociology etc. Since the upcoming Census will embrace the digital mode - with respondents free to self-enumerate or have the enumerators capture data on their phones or tablets through the Census app or portal - govt sources said the tables relating to various data fields captured will release much sooner than the earlier decadal counts involving a lag of 5-6 years. A senior functionary said caste data may be released in three years. However, it is unlikely that the caste count by itself will form the basis for reservation. Though a countrywide socio-economic caste census was done in 2011, it returned around 46 lakh castes, with inaccuracies that kept the data from being made public. In recent years, Bihar, Karnataka and Telangana have undertaken their own caste surveys. Census 2027 may also fulfil the condition set under the delimitation law, for being the basis for the next delimitation, which is crucial not only to decide the representation of states/UTs in Lok Sabha but also for implementing 33% reservation for women in LS and state assemblies. As per the law, the next delimitation exercise must be conducted based on the first Census to be undertaken after 2026, though no day or month has been specified. The home ministry on Wednesday said the notification regarding the intent to conduct Census 2027 will tentatively be issued on June 16. Refresher training of enumerators and Census staff may follow; sources did not rule out a fresh pre-test, last conducted in Aug-Sept 2019, in view of digitisation of the process and adding of new data fields like caste. Though only Rs 574 crore was allotted for Census - set to cost over Rs 13,000 crore, along with NPR updation - in 2025-26 Budget, govt sources said finding additional resources was not an issue. Five states/UTs - West Bengal, Tamil Nadu, Assam, Kerala and Puducherry - are due to go to the polls in May-June 2026 but will have the flexibility to choose a 45-day houselisting schedule anytime between April 1 and Sept 30 to avoid a clash.

Paper Plans, Pavement Chaos: NMC Yet To Demarcate 43 Hawking Zones
Nagpur: More than four years after the Covid-19 pandemic forced thousands into street vending for survival, the Nagpur Municipal Corporation (NMC) failed to legally accommodate even a fraction of the city's street vendors. Out of an estimated 50,000 hawkers in Nagpur, only 1,225 were issued official licences. Shockingly, even among the 3,149 hawkers who were registered and authorised to vote in the formation of the city's Town Vending Committee — a key step under the Street Vendors Act — most remain unlicensed and without any designated space. This stark mismatch exposes the civic body's failure to translate policy into action, leaving thousands vulnerable to eviction while footpaths and roads continue to be overrun in the absence of proper planning. According to official data, the zones with the highest number of licences issued — Laxmi Nagar (176), Dharampeth (250), and Hanuman Nagar (81) — account for only a fraction of the vendors on the ground. Zones like Gandhibagh (109), Sataranjipura (77), Lakadganj (105), and Ashi Nagar (41) reflect similarly dismal figures. Mangalwari zone has seen only 91 licences issued so far. Vendors cleared in the morning are often back by the evening, underlining the futility of force-driven tactics. Activists and urban planners have long warned against this piecemeal approach. "You cannot solve a structural crisis with arbitrary removals. Hawkers are part of the urban economy and need designated space, not persecution," said a local urban researcher. The consequences are dire for both vendors and pedestrians. 3 officials face action for giving VIP treatment to ex-MP in UP jail
Lucknow: Three jail officials of Lalitpur district jail will face action for providing VIP treatment to former Samajwadi Party MP Rizwan Zaheer. While deputy jailer Jai Narayan Bharti was suspended on Wednesday, recommendation for disciplinary proceedings have been ordered against jailer Jeevan Singh and jail superintendent Mukesh Kumar have been sent to the state govt. The action came three days after a surprise inspection at Lalitpur district jail revealed Zaheer enjoying VIP facilities. Three jail warders were suspended after the incident came to light. During the raid led by District Legal Services Authority (DLSA) secretary Mayank Jaiswal, banned and luxury items were recovered from the barrack of the former MP. These included cash, branded food, and a mattress. Following the disclosure, additional IG (prisons) Dharmendra Singh ordered a fact-finding report by DIG prisons, Kanpur Range. Based on the report, departmental action was taken against multiple officers. Superintendent Mukesh Kumar, in his defence, claimed that Zaheer, a heart patient, was advised a soft mattress by doctors and added that only Rs 7,500 cash was recovered. Zaheer, a former SP MP from Balrampur and a history-sheeter, has been in judicial custody since July 2022 for allegedly plotting the murder of former panchayat chairman Firoz Ahmad alias Pappu. He faces 14 serious charges, including murder, attempt to murder, Arms Act violations, and cases under the Gangster Act.
