RHIT hosts Aerial Drone Competition
TERRE HAUTE, Ind. (WTWO/WAWV)— Saturday morning, Rose-Hulman was the host to an Aerial Drone Competition.
There were 14 teams that competed with 12 of them being middle and high school teams and two of the being elementary school teams. Rose-Hulman's Vice President of Strategic Initiatives Rick Stamper said that having these students learn such an advanced skill at this age really helps them grow as a student.
C2C set to host annual Prom Dress Giveaway
'We always want to promote designed thinking and problem solving, which is an important skill for any engineer, mathematician, or scientist,' said Stamper. 'These drones provide a great mechanism for them to do that. Programming the drones for autonomous flight is a challenging activity, but the students are drawn to it. It is a really nice way for them to have the experience and develop that skill set.'
These teams competed in four main events including a teamwork challenge, autonomous and flight skills, and communication skills. South Vermillion's Robotics and Aerial Drone Coach Heather Scott said that along with learning programming and technology skills, they are also learning life skills.
'I see kids struggling with keeping track of everything that they need to do, and I think stuff like this encourages them to do that,' said Scott. 'Whether they want to continue programming, building or anything like that, there are a lot of real-world skills that get put into this.'
The winners of this competition will have the opportunity to move onto national competitions.

FBI gives input on recent uptick in cyber attacks
FARMERSBURG, Ind. (WTWO/WAWV)— WTWO reached out to ask the FBI for any tips to deal with the recent uptick in cyber crimes across the Wabash Valley. The FBI responded by stating that from 2021 to 2023, the Healthcare and Public Health sector had been the main target for cyber attacks until 2024, when they fell to second place behind critical manufacturing, according to the Internet Crime Complaint Center's annual reports. Here is a list of good practices the FBI recommends to avoid attacks like these. Enable Multi-factor Authentication Use strong passwords and save them with a password manager Change default credentials for software and hardware products Keep all your hardware and software up to date Avoid clicking on suspicious links Consider proactively freezing your account To start, the FBI says that using Multi-factor Authentication (MFA) can significantly reduce the likelihood of your accounts being compromised. Using an MFA will require a combination of credentials to log into an account. They recommend using a combination of the following for your login. Something you know: like a password or Personal Identification Number (PIN) Something you have: like a smart card, mobile token, or hardware token Some form of biometric factor (e.g., fingerprint, palm print, or voice recognition). For additional information on MFAs, you can visit here. Secondly, the FBI recommends strong passwords. Some examples of how are long passwords of at least 16 characters, using a random string of mixed-case letters, numbers, and symbols, or a short phrase of random words, or creating unique passwords, one per account. They also recommend using a reputable password manager to generate and store passwords. Many such systems are already on most newer devices. Third, the FBI stated that most hardware and software come with default usernames and passwords that are easy to exploit. Default passwords may even be labeled on the device or readily available online. Fourth, many individuals who commit cyber attacks do so through known vulnerabilities in systems to attack sometimes in as little as one to two weeks after being patched. The FBI recommends always having your system software, applications, and firmware up to date and turning on auto updates. They also state that if a piece of software or hardware (such as Windows 10) is no longer supported, replace it as soon as possible. Next, the FBI recommends never clicking on suspicious links that can come in the form of emails, direct messages, and social media posts. This can be used to gain access to information or infect your device with malware. When these attacks happen, many hackers will then use stolen credentials to log into your sensitive accounts and access your data or money if they aren't secured with a multi-factor authentication. These attacks can also result in someone unwittingly downloading malware that damages their system or installs ransomware that holds their computer captive. Finally, if all else fails and you believe that your personal information has been stolen, the FBI recommends placing a credit freeze to protect yourself from fraud. A credit freeze will put a restriction on access to your credit report and will keep creditors from being able to approve new credit accounts in your name. To let lenders and other companies access your account again, you'll either need to temporarily or permanently lift the freeze. You can freeze or lift a freeze on your credit report for free by contacting Equifax, Experian, and TransUnion. For more information and links to those companies, you can click here. Bang & Olufsen's third-gen Beosound A1 Bluetooth speaker has more battery life and bass
High-end Danish audio brand Bang & Olufsen has announced the third generation of its Beosound A1 Bluetooth speaker. The updated A1 remains as portable as its predecessor, retaining its puck-shaped design and minimalist appearance, but there are some key upgrades under its pearl-blasted aluminum shell. Arguably the most important of these is the larger woofer, which delivers a bass of 64dB, a 2dB improvement on the second-generation model. While that admittedly sounds modest on paper, B&O claims it's one that makes the speaker capable of comfortably filling a room with meaty sound. If you happen to have an older A1 around, you can form a stereo pair with the latest model for even more sonic muscle. ADVERTISEMENT Advertisement Battery life has also been increased to 24 hours, which is a sizable six hours more than its predecessor. And while it uses the slightly older Bluetooth 5.1 standard, the new A1 supports Microsoft Swift Pair and Google Fast Pair, both of which cut down on the steps required to pair devices. The previous speaker's three-microphone setup also makes its way to the A1 3rd Gen, allowing you to take calls from the device itself. The updated speaker has an IP67 dust and waterproof rating, and sports a modular design that allows you to replace or upgrade broken or outdated components over time. Bang & Olufsen say it's the first speaker in the world to get a Bronze certification from Cradle to Cradle. The C2C is a globally recognized sustainability standard that assesses a product from its supply chain through to production, and coaches companies in minimizing waste. The Bronze level awarded to the Beosound A1 is the lowest on C2C's scale, but it's evidence that Bang & Olufsen is paying mind to sustainability. The Bang & Olufsen A1 3rd Gen can be purchased in the same Natural Aluminium finish as its predecessor, as well as the two new 'nature-inspired' colorways of Honey Tone and Eucalyptus Green. It's available to buy today and costs $349.
