With eye on 2028 Olympics, Rugby Canada moves on from head coach Sean White
Canadian men's rugby sevens head coach Sean White will leave his role with the team in July, Rugby Canada said Wednesday.
The change will be made upon the conclusion of the first term of his contract, the organization said in a statement.
"On behalf of Rugby Canada, I would like to thank Sean for his hard work and dedication to the men's program and the work he did in developing our players," said Rugby Canada CEO Nathan Bombrys. "We wish him all the best in his future endeavours."
After a season-ending review, Rugby Canada said it was decided a change "would be in the best interest of qualification for the LA 2028 Olympics and redefining the team's role within international men's rugby."

The driver, 46-year-old Luigi Fragomele, was charged with dangerous driving, assault with a weapon — in this case a vehicle — leaving the scene of an accident and mischief. He remains in custody, with a bail hearing set for Thursday. While the motive behind the alleged attack remains unclear, representatives from community groups said the situation highlights the importance of treating everyone, regardless of their housing status, with dignity and respect. "There's no face to homelessness," said Pierre Rousseau, who manages Halte du Coin, an emergency shelter in the area. "You wouldn't believe how many people I see, people I shake hands with, who don't even realize they're living in a homeless situation." Martine Audate, who works with the Brossard Consultation Table, a local organization that supports people in vulnerable situations, said the rising cost of living is creating more instability across the South Shore. "People think it's easier here than in downtown Montreal, but it's not," Audate said. "It's still very hard to get housing here." For now, Derome is staying with her brother as she recovers from her injuries. She says the support she's received from the community has been crucial to her healing, both physically and emotionally. "I feel privileged," she said.

Police search for suspect accused of stealing SUV to flee Hamilton collision

Police said a red Toyota Camry and a black Toyota Highlander collided in the area of Main Street and Tuxedo Avenue at 5 p.m. When officers arrived and approached the vehicles to render help, the driver of the Corolla ran to the nearby intersection of Main Street and Kenilworth Avenue where he allegedly opened the door of an idling grey Highlander and removed the driver. He then conducted a U-turn and drove north on Kenilworth Avenue, police said. On Tuesday, officers found the Highlander unoccupied near Belmont and Roxborough avenues. Investigators have not identified the suspect and are asking residents to check their surveillance cameras for anything suspicious. Lester shared the news with his mother and sister, who were just as stunned as he was. He plans on investing his winnings. The ticket was bought at Stop 2 Shop on Hazelglen Road in Kitchener.
