Inquest called into death of Barton jail inmate
An inquest has been called into the death of Sean White, who died nearly four years ago while in custody at the Hamilton-Wentworth Detention Centre. Dr. Karen Schiff, the regional supervising coroner, announced the inquest Friday. It is mandatory under the Coroners Act because the 32-year-old died while in custody. White died on Aug. 21, 2021 and the inquest will examine the circumstances around his death. The date, time and venue of the inquest will be announced at a later date. The jury at the inquest will hear from witnesses and experts and will come to a verdict on his cause and manner of death. The jury can also make recommendations aimed at preventing further deaths. Canadian men's rugby sevens head coach Sean White will leave his role with the team in July, Rugby Canada said Wednesday. The change will be made upon the conclusion of the first term of his contract, the organization said in a statement. "On behalf of Rugby Canada, I would like to thank Sean for his hard work and dedication to the men's program and the work he did in developing our players," said Rugby Canada CEO Nathan Bombrys. "We wish him all the best in his future endeavours." After a season-ending review, Rugby Canada said it was decided a change "would be in the best interest of qualification for the LA 2028 Olympics and redefining the team's role within international men's rugby."
