Pawan Kalyan's twin warning to police: Rohingyas taking jobs from locals; southern states vulnerable to terror
Andhra Pradesh Deputy Chief Minister K Pawan Kalyan said on Tuesday that southern states are vulnerable targets for terrorists, and that the migration of Rohingyas into the state is causing unemployment. Speaking at Vijayawada, the Jana Sena Party chief said that he has written to the state police to maintain strict vigil against 'internal threats'.
'As much as soldiers are protecting the country safely on the borders, it is crucial that the police department is also constantly vigilant in internal security within the country. Rohingya migration is causing unemployment and (posing an) internal security threat. Some people in the system are involved in helping them settle down permanently here,' he said.
'Police should be more vigilant than the soldiers on the borders. We know that southern states are sensitive targets of terrorists. Surveillance should be kept on the movements of strangers arriving on the coast. I have written to the DGP to maintain strict vigil along the coast,' he said.
'Heinous attacks in the past prove that the southern states are a sensitive target for terrorists. The terrorist attacks in Coimbatore and Hyderabad areas still make your heart skip a beat,' he said.
He said he wrote to the police to be extra vigilant after a person with alleged terrorist connections was traced to the state, referring to a joint operation conducted by the Telangana and Andhra Pradesh police.
'I suggested that strict action be taken against those who support terrorism, in coordination with the administrative machinery. If proper surveillance is maintained, especially in the case of migrants, future incidents can be prevented. There is also a need to increase continuous monitoring and surveillance in the coastal area. In the past, there were some reports of people coming from outside on boats in Kakinada. Keep a watch on who is landing on our coasts,' he said.
The JSP chief said there should be a focus on Rohingya migration. 'In the past, Rohingya migrants came to many parts of Andhra Pradesh from West Bengal. Especially in 2017-18, a large number came to various parts of the state from Kolkata to work as goldsmiths. The roots of the Rohingya are in Myanmar. With their migration, the local youth are facing the problem of unemployment. The main demand is jobs for locals in Telangana and Andhra Pradesh… However, the Rohingyas are getting ration, Aadhaar and voter cards to establish permanent residence here after coming from across the country. They are doing jobs and businesses that should belong to our youth,' he said.
'Our system is negligent in establishing permanent residence for the Rohingyas. How are they getting Aadhaar, voter and ration cards? It is clear who is giving them. It is understood that some people in our system are cooperating with them. Everyone should be made aware of how the Rohingyas are becoming citizens of this country and robbing us of our opportunities,' Kalyan said.

Protests erupt over ‘derogatory remarks' against Amaravati women
Massive protests broke out on Monday across Andhra Pradesh following controversial remarks allegedly made against women from the Amaravati capital region during a live debate on a Telugu TV channel, recently. The remarks, aired during a panel discussion involving a journalist, V.V.R. Krishnam Raju, and moderated by journalist Kommineni Srinivasa Rao, have sparked outrage from political leaders, women's groups, and the public. The police arrested Mr. Srinivasa Rao on Monday in Hyderabad. Protest rally In Ponnur, a protest rally was organised under the leadership of local MLA Dhulipalla Narendra Kumar. Addressing the gathering, Mr. Narendra condemned the remarks and criticised the TV channel management, for allowing such statements to be aired. 'Even after being reduced to just 11 seats in the recent elections, YSRCP president Y.S. Jagan Mohan Reddy has not shed his arrogance,' Mr. Narendra said. He claimed that the TV broadcast was an intentional attempt to insult women who did not support the YSRCP in the elections. 'Forgetful of the fact that women are present in every household, including their own, they chose to demean women through such irresponsible commentary,' he added. The legislator also pointed to an earlier incident involving a political activist Kiran Kumar, who reportedly made remarks on social media and was later allegedly assaulted while in police custody by a former YSRCP MP. He demanded immediate action and accountability in the present case as well. Meanwhile, Deputy Speaker Kanumuru Raghurama Krishna Raju condemned the role of the panellists, asserting that journalists should uphold ethical standards. 'The ones expected to guide others on media ethics have themselves failed,' he said. 'Krishnam Raju spoke recklessly, while Kommineni laughed along — an equally serious offence. I have written to the DGP seeking immediate action,' he added. In Guntur's Arundelpet, the Telugu Mahila activists staged a protest outside the TV channel office, setting ablaze copies of the newspaper also owned by the management. Women protesters voiced anger over what they termed recurring attempts to defame the women of the Amaravati region. 'They called Amaravati a graveyard earlier, and now they stoop further. If such comments continue, the public will not remain silent,' a protester warned. Protesters demanded an unconditional apology from the TV channel and its leadership. 'If the organisation fails to apologise, women will respond appropriately,' they asserted.

Bangladesh protester found on Bengal voter list, BJP-TMC trade blows
A fresh political storm has erupted in West Bengal after a man allegedly linked to the 2024 student protests in Bangladesh was found to be listed as a registered voter in Kakdwip. The revelation has reignited the BJP-TMC face-off over alleged infiltration and manipulation of the state's voter rolls. The man, identified as Niutan Das, appears in several images circulating online that show him participating in the 2024 quota reform protests in Bangladesh — demonstrations widely credited with triggering the fall of Sheikh Hasina's government. Despite the controversy, Das has insisted he is an Indian citizen. In a video message, he claimed to possess valid documents, including a PAN card and Aadhaar card. 'I had travelled to Bangladesh in 2024 for some issues related to our ancestral property, but I unexpectedly got caught up in the revolution there. I have been a voter in Kakdwip since 2014. Although I lost my voter card in 2017, I managed to get a new one the following year with help from the local MLA, Manturam Pakhira. I also cast my vote during the 2016 West Bengal Assembly elections,' he was quoted as saying by news agency PTI. In a contradictory account, Tapan Das, a cousin of Niutan, told reporters in Kakdwip, 'Niutan was born in Bangladesh and holds voting rights in both countries. He came to India after the pandemic to sell some ancestral land and has stayed here since. He should be held responsible for registering as a voter in both places, that's clearly not right.' The state BJP quickly latched onto the development, alleging that the ruling Trinamool Congress (TMC) is aiding illegal infiltration to influence elections. 'This is another glaring example of the so-called 'Egiye Bangla Model'. The same person spotted wielding a stick during the student protests in Bangladesh is now a listed voter in Kakdwip. The TMC and Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee are fuelling this illegal infiltration network,' West Bengal BJP president Sukanta Majumdar wrote in a post on X. Leader of the Opposition Suvendu Adhikari echoed the sentiment, alleging, 'There are lakhs of Bangladeshi nationals who have made it to the voter rolls in West Bengal. Take the case of Saad Sheikh, a suspected member of the Ansarullah Bangla Team, whose name was in the Murshidabad voter list.' BJP Mathurapur organisational district secretary Sanjay Das went a step further, saying, 'The Trinamool Congress is actively helping Bangladeshi infiltrators, many of them jihadis, enter India. They're being handed voter cards and even citizenship just so the ruling party can stay in power.' The TMC has dismissed these allegations, instead blaming the Centre and the Border Security Force (BSF), which is responsible for monitoring the Indo-Bangladesh border. 'The Centre and the BSF are in charge of guarding the borders. Our state government will do its part, but it's up to the Union government to ensure security,' said TMC spokesperson Kunal Ghosh. The controversy deepened after a viral photo surfaced showing Das cutting a birthday cake alongside TMC's Sundarbans organisational district student wing president, Debashis Das. 'I had no idea he was involved in the Bangladesh protests. The photo going around was taken at a birthday celebration with many people present. If someone like him managed to cross the border, it just shows the BSF isn't doing its job properly. Strengthening border security is the only way to prevent such incidents. I urge the authorities to investigate and take action,' Debashis Das said.

Survey of SCs to continue at ‘citizen centric services' centres
Bengaluru: A provision has been made to continue the survey for gathering the empirical data, aimed at providing internal reservation among Scheduled Castes (SCs) in Karnataka, at the 9,400 state level 'citizen centric services' centres from June 9 to 22, the commission overseeing the survey said. With about 10 per cent of the survey yet to be completed and amid requests for time extension, the commission headed by retired judge of the Karnataka High Court H N Nagmohan Das, who has been tasked to recommend to the government the internal reservation among SCs, has made this announcement. 'Currently, the 'Comprehensive Survey of the Scheduled Castes-2025', is being carried out across the state of Karnataka from April 5 onwards in 2 modes at special camps and online self-declarations. As of date i.e., June 6, an overall progress of 90 per cent has been achieved in the survey across the state,' an official release dated June 7 that was released to media on Sunday said. It said about 10 per cent of the caste survey is yet to be completed. In addition to this, some Scheduled Caste organisations have once again submitted representations, requesting for time extension to complete the said survey. The commission, however, pointed out that in the wake of the schools reopening in the state, the teachers who were appointed as enumerators for the survey have been relieved from the survey work. 'Thus, in order to facilitate the continuation of the SC castes' survey for those Scheduled Castes' households of Karnataka, who are yet to submit their data in the Scheduled Caste Survey, a provision has been made to carry out the same at the existing 9,400 state level 'citizen centric services' centers, such as , 'Karnataka One', 'Bengaluru One' and 'Grama One' and also at the 198 'BBMP ward offices', from June 9 to June 22,' it said. In order to submit the required information, the Aadhaar card or ration card of the citizen is required, it further said, adding that a separate camp will be set up at each of the 198 Bruhat Bengaluru Mahanagara Palike (BBMP) ward offices, to carry out this survey. According to officials, the SC population in the state according to the 2011 census was 1.04 crore. In 2025, the projected SC population will be 1.16 crore and out of this 1.05 crore, have been enumerated. Apart from this, the same facility for the survey will also be provided at the Bapuji Seva Kendras, across the state. To enter the said information at the centres, the citizen's Aadhaar card or the ration card number is required. Further, the time limit for Scheduled Caste families for submitting online self declaration has also been extended up to June 22. This can be done through the link: https: As per the government orders earlier and the terms of references, the Commission has to obtain empirical data regarding the representation of the 101 Scheduled Castes' in education and government services in the state of and has to submit a report with suitable recommendations on internal reservation (sub-categorization) of the Scheduled Castes. A section of SCs, like 'SC Left', have been demanding internal reservation, alleging that only a few influential sub-castes were taking away a majority of the benefits, while many communities were still marginalised. The internal reservation is aimed at slicing up the 17 per cent reservation matrix given to 101 Scheduled Castes. The government, in November last year, had appointed Nagmohan Das to head a commission to recommend internal reservation among SCs, after the Supreme Court last year allowed the states to provide internal reservation, and the state cabinet agreed to implement internal reservation. In a landmark verdict delivered by the Supreme Court on August 1 last year, it held that states are constitutionally empowered to make sub-classifications within the SCs, which form a socially heterogeneous class, for granting reservation for the uplift of castes that are socially and educationally more backward.
