Muscat: The European Union is keen to have Free Trade Agreements with GCC member states, it was revealed by E. Luigi Di Maio, EU Special Representative for the Gulf Region, as he spoke on the growing strategic alignment between Europe and the region.
He was speaking at the Advantage Oman Forum, a two-day international platform for global investors, policymakers, and business leaders at the St. Regis Al Mouj Muscat Resort was opened by His Highness Sayyid Shihab bin Tariq Al Said, Deputy Prime Minister for Defence Affairs.
Speaking at the forum, senior officials, including the Minister of Commerce and Industry, that Investment Promotion, highlighted that as there are 50 conflicts around the world, which are getting polarised, Oman offers political stability and certainty that businesses need.
It was unveiled that Oman is among the top three players in green hydrogen in the world and offers diverse tourism products - adventure, wadis, beaches, and caves.
It was also noted that the GCC is planning to sign multiple FTAs with several countries and has already signed with Korea, New Zealand, and Pakistan.
GCC is also working on the Unified Customs market.

Incentives and infrastructure alone are no longer sufficient to attract meaningful capital. Investors are increasingly prioritizing countries that offer consistent policy direction, institutional trust, and clear development frameworks. Oman's model—grounded in political neutrality, regulatory reform, and purposeful diversification—reflects a strategic response to these demands.
Vision 2040, the Sultanate's national development agenda, aligns with the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals and emphasizes resilience across key sectors such as clean energy, advanced manufacturing, logistics, agri-tech, and sustainable tourism.
The speaker lineup includes Michelle Karavias, Managing Director at Fitch Solutions; Diana Mangalagiu of Saïd Business School at the University of Oxford; and Creon Butler, Director of the Global Economy and Finance Programme at Chatham House; Dushyant Thakor, Deputy Executive Director at the World Association of Investment Promotion Agencies (WAIPA); Jonathan McClory, nation branding specialist and Research Associate at Hertford College, University of Oxford.
The forum will also feature will hear from renowned businessmen such as Mohamed Al Abbar, Founder of Emaar Properties; Mohammed Al Barwani, Chairman of MB Holding Group; Mohammed Mahfoodh al Ardhi, Chairman of the Muscat Stock Exchange and Executive Chairman of Investcorp; Hilmi Panigoro, President Director at MedcoEnergi; Yusuff Ali, Founder of LuLu Group.

Muscat – South Batinah governorate has launched a few infrastructure and service projects worth more than RO4.57mn as part of its plans to boost investment, tourism and job opportunities across its wilayats. The projects, overseen by the South Batinah Governorate Development Committee under the Office of the Governor, cover Barka, Musannah, Wadi al Maawil, Al Awabi and Nakhal. Officials say the initiative supports the decentralisation goals set out in Oman's Tenth Five-Year Plan and Vision 2040. 'These projects aim to create an attractive and competitive environment for investment and sustainable growth,' said Saud bin Said al Maawali, Deputy Head of the Municipal Council and chairman of the committee. Among the largest projects is the Musannah Waterfront Development, a 2km site in the Al Uwaid area, now 35% complete. The RO1.7mn project will include restaurants, shops, play areas, sports facilities and beach activities. In Wadi al Maawil, a new commercial souq covering 16,000sqm is nearly finished. The RO319,000 project has 27 retail units, which is expected to boost local trade and tourism. The Al Awabi Souq is more than 70% complete. Built at a cost of RO200,000, it will have 16 shops across 1,200sqm, supporting small businesses in the wilayat. Nakhal's public park development is 70% complete. The RO452,000 project includes spaces for small and medium enterprises and productive families. In Barka, work continues on a waterfront project in the Al Muraisi area, now 55% done. The 2km development, costing RO1.9mn, will feature tourism and investment zones, sports and leisure facilities, and services for tour operators. 'These projects upgrade infrastructure and support SMEs, jobseekers and entrepreneurs in the region,' Maawali said. 'We aim to align our development priorities with the needs of citizens and sustainable growth principles.' The initiatives are expected to raise the quality of life and strengthen the local economy of South Batinah.

By OUR CORRESPONDENT Muscat – Oman's Foreign Minister on Saturday confirmed the cancellation of talks between Iran and the US, which was to be held in Muscat on Sunday. 'The Iran-US talks scheduled to be held in Muscat this Sunday will now not take place. Diplomacy and dialogue remain the only pathway to lasting peace.' H E Sayyid Badr al Busiadi wrote on X. Earlier during the day, Iran had said that the dialogue with the US over Tehran's nuclear programme is 'meaningless' after Israel's biggest-ever military strike against it. Esmaeil Baghaei 'The other side (the US) acted in a way that makes dialogue meaningless. You cannot claim to negotiate and at the same time divide work by allowing the Zionist regime (Israel) to target Iran's territory,' Iran's state media on Saturday quoted foreign ministry spokesperson Esmaeil Baghaei as saying. 'We hold the US administration responsible for the consequences of this reckless and illegal action by the Israeli regime,' he noted. While speaking to Kaja Kallas, EU High Representative for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy, on Saturday, Abbas Araghchi, Foreign Minister of Iran, said that the continuation of indirect Iran-US talks amid 'Israel's savagery is unjustifiable'. He considered the Israeli aggression to be the result of direct US support.
