BJP faces growing MLA dissent in Madhya Pradesh

The BJP in Madhya Pradesh is facing a unique problem as several MLAs are raising voices of dissent, one after the other, against their own government.
The situation is so grave that BJP national president JP Nadda called party state president VD Sharma and asked him to send a stern message to the MLAs who were speaking out of turn and creating a difficult situation for the party.
The recent incident of some of the ministers' controversial remarks on Operation Sindoor is just a part of this. But a closer look at the affairs of the party over the past few months, indicates that MLAs have been openly criticising the government and expressing their unhappiness in public, creating an embarrassing situation for the party.

BJP MLA from Guna, Panna Lal Shakya, on Wednesday, alleged to the media that the local Guna administration does not take him seriously and only select individuals are being heard. He went on to say that since he belongs to the SC category, his voice is suppressed.
On Saturday, Shivpuri MLA Devendra Jain held a press conference and alleged corruption by the local administration, including an SDM. The state government removed the SDM on his complaint, but Jain wants more action. Pichore MLA Pritam Lodhi has been constantly raising his voice against the local administration and the minister in-charge. He was given a notice by the party but that has not worked as a deterrent.

Sohagpur MLA Vijaypal Singh and Mauganj MLA Pradeep Patel have publicly criticised the state administration over various local issues. Patel alleged that he faced threats from the police and held a six-hour protest over the tensions with law enforcement.
Former state home minister and Khurai MLA Bhupendra Singh on Friday made serious allegations against leaders from both the BJP and Congress, claiming that they were colluding against him through 'tantra-mantra' rituals aimed at sabotaging the development efforts in his constituency.
These are some of the recent incidents and the list goes on. MP BJP sources told ET that many of these leaders are associated with some senior leaders of the party and that makes it difficult for the party to take action fearing a larger fallout.
However, the party has taken some action. Alot MLA Chintamani Malviya raised the permanent acquisition of land in the Ujjain Simhastha area in the assembly on March 18. He said it was detrimental to the local interests as earlier the lands were acquired only for a few months. He was issued a show cause notice by party state president VD Sharma and later Malviya agreed to toe the party line.
