Shah's speech on Tamil Nadu ‘blatant lies': A Raja

Amit Shah is trying to disturb the peace in a harmonious state like Tamil Nadu, said DMK's A Raja on Monday while emphasising that the Union home minister's speech attacking them a day ago were'blatant lies'.
'His speech was three things — disgusting, blatant lies without evidence and divisive,' Raja said in a press conference. Shah in Madurai on Sunday launched a scathing attack on the MK Stalin-led DMK government for 'rising corruption, crimes against women and drug mafia' over the last four years and said that the National Democratic Alliance (NDA) would form the government in Tamil Nadu in the 2026 assembly elections.
'Their communal politics does not work here. People of Tamil Nadu have repeatedly shown the BJP that their politics will not be accepted here,' Raja said. He added that they are not afraid of Shah and Prime Minister Narendra Modi. ' We are not afraid of Shah and Modi. Afterall, they are ordinary people. Why are they not able to win here? Because we have an ideology that is an alternative to theirs. As long as Dravidian ideology exists, they cannot gain a foothold here. We are not Delhi, Maharashtra and Haryana. We are Tamil Nadu, we are Dravidam, they (BJP) cannot come here.'
Raja rebutted Shah's speech point by point and listed chief minister MK Stalin's achievement while adding that the BJP-led Union government is creating confusion over the delimitation process. On Shah urging people to participate in large numbers on June 22 for BJP's conference on Lord Murugan in Madurai, Raja said that the people know that it is to whip up communal sentiments. 'You are not conducting this for the unity of Hindus but to bring in religious divide by going against Islam, Christianity and marginalised people,' the Lok Sabha MP said.
Naam Tamilar Katchi (NTK) chief S Seeman too said that the BJP should not politicise Tamil deity Lord Murugan. 'There is a value for Murugan in the state. Why didn't BJP speak of his glory all these days,' Seeman told reporters. 'You take up Rama in Uttar Pradesh, Puri Jagannath in Odisha, Aiyyappa in Kerala, and then Murugan here. Do you think people here will be deceived?'
In response, the BJP said Shah ensured that the BJP forms the government in Haryana, Maharashtra and Delhi. 'He has come to Tamil Nadu to pack off the DMK in the 2026 assembly elections,' BJP's Tamil Nadu chief Nainar Nagendran said.

Congress to hold mashal marches across Maharashtra

The Maharashtra Pradesh Congress Committee will organise mashal (torch) marches across the state between June 12 and 14 to protest what it calls a systematic erosion of democratic processes under the BJP regime. The party has questioned the election commission's credibility and has hit out at Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis for 'sidestepping serious concerns' raised by Congress leader Rahul Gandhi over alleged electoral manipulation. Congress state vice president and former MLA Mohan Joshi announced the agitation on Tuesday, saying, 'Rahul Gandhi's recent newspaper article exposed the BJP's blueprint of vote theft in Maharashtra. It has rattled the ruling party. Instead of the Election Commission responding, Fadnavis jumped in with a reply that deflects from the core issue and misleads the people.' In his article published Saturday, Gandhi had described the 2024 Maharashtra Assembly elections as a 'blueprint for rigging democracy,' alleging a pattern of electoral 'match-fixing' that could soon be replicated in Bihar. The Election Commission dismissed the claims as 'absolutely absurd' and accused Gandhi of defaming the institution after an unfavourable result. Responding the next day, Fadnavis said, 'Rahul Gandhi consistently insults the democratic process. He repeatedly disrespects the public mandate. People have rejected Rahul Gandhi, and in retaliation, he is rejecting the people. This will only push the Congress party further into decline.' Joshi, however, accused Fadnavis of avoiding the real concerns raised by Gandhi. 'Instead of addressing the serious irregularities, he launched a personal attack. Why is the chief minister responding on behalf of the Election Commission? That itself raises suspicion,' Joshi said. He pointed out that Gandhi had questioned the process through which the Modi government amended the Constitution to remove the Chief Justice of India from the committee that appoints election commissioners, replacing the seat with Union Home Minister Amit Shah. 'This move gave the ruling party complete control over the selection of commissioners—this is where the electoral fraud begins,' Joshi said. He added that Congress governments had always followed a transparent process in appointing election commissioners, with no political interference. 'No one questioned the integrity of the commissioners we appointed. But Fadnavis, in his article, avoided these facts and instead chose to make shallow accusations,' Joshi said. Joshi also raised concerns over the unusual spike in voter numbers during the 2024 Assembly elections and reports of polling continuing beyond official hours in certain constituencies. 'Fadnavis has deliberately ignored these issues. His silence on this reinforces doubts about the fairness of the process,' he said.

Plea claims Priyanka Gandhi hid assets in poll info, HC sends her notice

Priyanka Gandhi Vadra (File photo) KOCHI: Kerala high court on Tuesday issued notice to Congress MP Priyanka Gandhi Vadra seeking her response to a petition challenging her election from the Wayanad Lok Sabha constituency in the Nov 2024 byelection. Justice K Babu admitted the election petition filed by BJP candidate Navya Haridas seeking Priyanka's election to be declared void, and posted it for further hearing in Aug. In her petition, Haridas has accused Priyanka of corrupt practices and suppression or non-disclosure of several immovable properties owned by her and her spouse, Robert Vadra, in the affidavit submitted along with her nomination papers. The petition alleges that Priyanka suppressed vital information regarding assets owned by her and her family, thereby misleading and misinforming voters and keeping them in the dark to influence their electoral choice. This, the petitioner contends, amounts to corrupt practices under the Representation of the People Act, 1951. The petition also alleges that Priyanka's nomination papers violated election laws and the Conduct of Election Rules. In the byelection, necessitated by Rahul Gandhi vacating the seat in favour of Rae Bareli, Priyanka secured her maiden electoral victory with a margin exceeding four lakh votes. She polled 6,22,338 votes while LDF candidate Sathyan Mokeri secured 2,11,407 votes. Haridas, the petitioner, was placed third with 1,09,939 votes.

UP Congress chief hits out at PM Modi on 11 years of governance, says

Varanasi (Uttar Pradesh) [India], June 11 (ANI): Uttar Pradesh Congress President, Ajay Rai, on Monday launched a scathing attack on the Bharatiya Janata Party and Prime Minister Narendra Modi, claiming that while the party looks forward to development in 2047, they should focus on today instead. 'They (BJP) talk about 2047, but you (BJP) have to talk about today. Today, people do not have jobs, and all businesses have closed down,' the UP Congress president told ANI. He also criticised the Prime Minister for various scams, particularly highlighting the scams in temple's prasad, claiming that adulterated prasad has come from Gujarat, the state where Modi was Chief Minister. 'Gujarat's company works in Ayodhya, too. There has been a scam in prasads too. Prasads are also coming from Gujarat.' Rai also said that people of Varanasi should be getting jobs too, as they have voted for PM Modi. Earlier on Tuesday, UP deputy CM Brajesh Pathak said that India has seen transformative growth in sectors like infrastructure, space, and medical sciences, and credited Prime Minister Narendra Modi for lifting 25 crore people out of poverty while advancing the vision of 'Integral Humanism' for a developed nation. Speaking to ANI, Pathak said, 'Over the past decade, India has witnessed a transformative shift across various sectors -- from infrastructure development to advancements in space and medical sciences. Nearly 25 crore people have been lifted out of poverty. To commemorate Prime Minister Narendra Modi's 11 years in office, the Narendra Modi App or NaMo App has launched the 'Jan Man Survey.' The survey quickly gained significant traction, with over 5 lakh responses from citizens across India in a single day. This unique survey is designed to engage people actively in the democratic process, empowering them to express their opinions on key national issues and government initiatives. Announced by Prime Minister Modi through X, the Jan Man Survey allows people to share their feedback and opinions with the government directly. (ANI)
