Shafee files police report on behalf of Najib over 'royal addendum'
KUALA LUMPUR: Tan Sri Muhammad Shafee Abdullah has filed a police report, on behalf of former prime minister Datuk Seri Najib Razak, against former attorney general Tan Sri Ahmad Terrirudin Mohd Salleh concerning the issue of the Royal Addendum, Sinar Harian reports. Muhammad Shafee, who is Najib's lead counsel, told the Malay language daily that he was instructed by Najib to file the report at the Dang Wangi district police headquarters on Monday (June 16). "Previously, Najib had sought permission to file a police report either from within prison or with the assistance of prison authorities to make a report at the Kajang district police headquarters. "However, the request did not receive a positive response. Therefore, he instructed me to file the report," he said on Monday. Shafee said that the report was filed against Ahmad Terrirudin under Sections 204 and 209 of the Penal Code. "The offences alleged in the report are related to the Royal Addendum. I will not comment further as this report is an investigation document," he told Sinar Harian. Earlier, on May 29, Shafee revealed that Najib had not received any response despite seven letters being sent to confirm the existence of the Royal Addendum. At a press conference at the Kuala Lumpur Court Complex, Shafee explained that the letters were sent to the then Attorney General, Ahmad Terrirudin, the Home Affairs Ministry, and the director-general of Prisons. However, he said that there was no response or confirmation that the letters had been received by any of the relevant parties.

Norwegian Olympic champ Ingebrigtsen's dad acquitted of abuse but convicted of assaulting daughter
OSLO, June 16 — A Norway court today acquitted Gjert Ingebrigtsen of abusing his son, Olympic champion runner Jakob Ingebrigtsen, but convicted him and handed him a 15-day suspended sentence for assaulting his daughter on one occasion. Gjert Ingebrigtsen, 59, acted as trainer until 2022 to Jakob, 24, who won Olympic golds in the 5,000m in Paris in 2024 and the 1,500m in Tokyo in 2021. He was accused of physical and psychological violence against Jakob and his sister Ingrid, 19, between 2008 and 2022, but denied the charges. At the conclusion of the lengthy trial that lasted from March 24 to May 15 at the Sandnes court, he was acquitted of the abuse alleged by Jakob. The court however found him guilty of one violent incident involving his daughter Ingrid. In her testimony, Ingrid told the court her father hit her in the face with a wet towel in January 2022 — a picture taken that day showed her with a red cheek. He said he was aiming for her finger, which she was pointing at him during a row. In addition to a 15-day suspended prison sentence, Ingebrigtsen Sr was ordered to pay Ingrid 10,000 kroner (RM4,241) in damages. Prosecutors had called for him to be jailed for two and a half years, 'They didn't say they were disappointed. They said they were surprised,' Mette Yvonne Larsen, Jakob's and Ingrid's lawyer, told reporters when describing her clients' reactions to the verdict. Meanwhile, the accused's lawyers noted that 'what was decisive for the court's conclusion was the lack of evidence proving that Gjert Ingebrigtsen had instilled constant fear in his children.' 'The court specifically highlighted that several close family members as well as external witnesses had neither observed nor witnessed mistreatment,' they said in a statement. The parties have 14 days to appeal the verdict. 'Character assassination' Throughout the trial, Jakob referred to his father as 'the accused' and told the court he stopped calling him 'dad' at the age of 11 or 12. 'My upbringing was very much characterised by fear,' he told the court. 'I felt like I had no free choice and I wasn't allowed to speak my mind. Everything was controlled and decided for me. An enormous amount of manipulation,' he said. He recounted several episodes of physical violence, including slaps and kicks to the stomach, some of which occurred when he was seven years old. Ingebrigtsen Sr has called the trial a 'textbook case of character assassination'. He told the court he had been an 'overly protective' father who had given his seven children a 'traditional and patriarchal' upbringing. He was keen to contribute to their success but received only ingratitude in return, he said. Jakob and two of his brothers, Henrik and Filip, who are also athletes, shocked Norway in October 2023 when they used a newspaper article to accuse their father of using physical violence during their upbringing. The police investigated claims about all seven Ingebrigtsen siblings but retained only those relating to Jakob and Ingrid. Jakob — who claimed the 1,500m and 3,000m world indoor titles right before the opening of the trial in March — along with Henrik and Filip cut ties with their father in 2022. On the final day of the trial, Jakob told the court the proceedings had 'profound and heartbreaking consequences' for the siblings regardless of the verdict. 'We have known that from the beginning, but it was nonetheless important to tell our story,' he said. — AFP

Ganja resembling belacan, chocolate, and keropok lekor seized
KANGAR: Belacan, chocolate bars and keropok lekor — these familiar favourites turned out to be a cover for a pungent plot here. The drugs, valued at RM9,238, were found in the possession of a 21-year-old Thai national who was arrested while attempting to board the Electric Train Service (ETS) heading south from Bukit Keteri Railway Station. Perlis police chief Datuk Muhammad Abdul Halim said the incident took place at Bukit Keteri railway station after police received information regarding a Thai man carrying cannabis who was planning to board the ETS. "Based on the information received, our personnel from the Narcotics Criminal Investigation Department (NCID) of the Perlis police contingent headquarters went to the station and successfully identified the 21-year-old suspect. "The man was believed to be waiting for the ETS heading south, and upon inspecting the backpack he was carrying, we found 27 plastic packets containing green plant material suspected to be cannabis, weighing 2.98 kilogrammes and valued at RM9,238," he said. Muhammad said preliminary investigations revealed the suspect was paid more than RM1,000 by the syndicate to deliver the cannabis via the ETS. "The cannabis was shaped and packaged to resemble shrimp paste, chocolate bars, and raw 'keropok lekor' in an attempt to fool the authorities during inspections. "The supply is believed to have been sourced from a neighbouring country, with Perlis used as a transit point before being distributed or sold in southern states. "The suspect's modus operandi involved delivering drug supplies from Thailand into the country on demand, for a fee of RM1,500," he said. Following this, police arrested another suspect, a 25-year-old local man in Alor Setar, who is also believed to be involved in the drug distribution syndicate. "Initial drug screening on the main suspect found him positive for methamphetamine. A background check revealed he has four prior criminal records related to drug offences. "The total amount of drugs seized in this case could serve approximately 29,870 drug addicts," he said. Muhammad said the case is being investigated under Section 39B of the Dangerous Drugs Act 1952. The suspect has been remanded for seven days until this Thursday to assist with investigations.
