Missing Brandon teen found dead, police say

A Brandon, Man., teenager who had been missing since Sunday has been found dead, police say.
The body of Owen Bedford, 18, was found in the Assiniboine River, the Brandon Police Service said on a Facebook post Friday afternoon.
He had last been seen at around 2 a.m. Sunday leaving a bar on Victoria Avenue with some friends, his family previously told CBC News.
More than 100 volunteers joined a search, the family said, and the Hutterian Emergency Aquatic Response Team began searching the Assiniboine River for the teen on Tuesday.
Brandon police said Bedford's identity has been formally confirmed.
"At this time, our thoughts are with Owen's family and friends as they navigate this incredibly difficult and painful time," they said in the update. "We extend our deepest sympathies and stand with them in their grief."

A 33-year-old man was allegedly caught with guns and drugs when he was arrested for a shooting that occurred in the city's west end last month. During the search, officers allegedly seized a loaded handgun that had been modified to fire fully automatic and was fitted with a 22-round capacity magazine, a loaded semi-automatic handgun with a 10 round capacity magazine, three firearm magazines, including a drum-style magazine with a capacity to contain 50 rounds of ammunition, a large quantity of a cocaine, and proceeds of crime over $5,000. Alan Scott MacDonald, of Toronto, is charged with discharging a firearm with intent to wound or endanger life, aggravated assault, unauthorized possession of a loaded restricted firearm, unauthorized possession of a firearm in a motor vehicle, three counts of possession of a firearm contrary to a prohibition order, two counts of unauthorized possession of a loaded prohibited firearm, four counts of unauthorized possession of a prohibited device, making a firearm automatic, six counts of possession of a firearm contrary to a prohibition order, seven counts of possession of a schedule I substance for the purpose of trafficking, and possession of proceeds of crime over $5000. Canada Says Network Devices Compromised in China-Linked Hack

Canada's cybersecurity agency said Chinese-backed hackers were likely behind recent malicious activity targeting domestic telecommunications infrastructure, warning that three network devices registered to a Canadian company were compromised in the attacks. The Canadian Centre for Cyber Security and the US Federal Bureau of Investigation urged Canadian organizations to take steps to harden their networks against the threat posed by Salt Typhoon, a group linked to the Chinese government, in a bulletin issued late on Friday.
