Texas A&M's 2025 football coaching staff looked complete heading into the summer months. Still, according to 247Sports' Matt Zenitz, coach Mike Elko has reportedly snagged one of the top recruiters in the country, as former Miami staffer David "Pop" Cooney will join the Aggie staff ahead of the 2025 season in an unspecified recruiting role.
This week, Texas A&M will host a highly talented list of 2026 prospects, including several five-star recruits, as the timing to hire a proven recruiter with an exceptional track record couldn't have been better. This isn't a surprise, given Elko's track record of making staff changes sporadically, which dates back to hiring Lyle Hemphill for the 2025 defensive staff early in the offseason.
Concerning two elite prospects in the 2026 recruiting class, Cooney was one of the lead recruiters for five-star wide receiver. LSU commit Tristen Keys, who will take an official visit to Texas A&M over the next two months, while holding a strong relationship with current four-star wide receiver commit Aaron Gregory, who has been receiving strong interest from rival programs, including the Texas Longhorns.
As Zenitz notes, Cooney served as Miami's recruiting director for three seasons, while also serving as the program's assistant wide receiver coach. This is a significant boost for Texas A&M's recruiting efforts, especially this week.
Other names include former Miami wide receivers Xavier Restrepo and Jacolby George, who are both currently on NFL rosters.

Why these WRs are must-haves in every fantasy draft

Yahoo Fantasy analyst Matt Harmon and contributor Chris Allen dive into the "fantasy film room" to identify players they cannot live without this fantasy season. View more Video Transcript Welcome to the Fantasy Film Room presented by Toyota, the official automotive partner of the NFL. For today's film room, we are offering our final draft blueprint for success. This is the guy we do not want to leave drafts without. Jaylen Waddle. Give me Jaylen Waddle. I don't care that last season was a complete disaster for him. I want to see a full season of him healthy. I want to see a full season. I think everybody wants to see a full season of Tua Tagovailoa healthy. It's also the same offense that was passing more often, almost 39 dropbacks per game for Tua once he came back. That passing pie grew. We saw Jay Waddle still have a fairly decent a rear share. And of course, no Johnny Smith that's going to be involved. And I mean, this is more subjective than anything else, but with all the chatter that Tyreek Hill's been putting out there, how much is he gonna really be involved in this passing game in 2025 anyway? So, I'd say the beef is more qualitative than anything else, but still, we're not that far behind from seeing Jaylen Waddle and Tyreek Hill be top 10 wide receivers. That was 2022. If we can see both of them be healthy this upcoming season, he's a guy that I do not want to leave my drafts with because I know that the Miami passing game is something that we've tried to target in years past. Just got to get the health part in check, but I believe that's going to be the case for this upcoming season. I'm all in on picking this year. I think he is the most mispriced player in fantasy right now, still going outside the top 30 receivers, right around like wide receiver 31. I've got him ranked almost 12 spots ahead of that. Again, I'm uncomfortably high on the George Pickens situation. And again, I'm telling you, man, it makes me uncomfortable. But I, but listen, the biggest reason, again, this is like, get in the film room here. George Pickens took a big step forward last year as an individual player with a career-best 72.8% success rate versus man, 77.6% success rate versus press, which is an 83rd percentile score. And reception perception really took a big step forward as a man press beater. He's a perfect fit in the vacated X receiver role for the Dallas Cowboys. And like, again, this is a guy that's put it in the box score. He ranks 17th among wide receivers in yards per route run over the last two years combined. Now his routes, his targets, his catchable targets are all going to go up in a likely pass-heavy offense with Dak Prescott. I think he could be one of, if not the most productive #2 receivers in the league as long as he's locked in. He's got every incentive to, to, to be locked in. So, Chris, at times I've been mixed in, mixed on picking, certainly in fantasy and even in real life. Uh, but this year, after the improvement that I watched last year, and again, him being in a new situation, I, I'm, I'm uncomfortably high on George Pickens. Close

Jen Pawol to become first woman to umpire MLB game

After nine years climbing the umpiring ranks, the former Hofstra softball player will step behind the plate during this weekend's Marlins-Braves series. View more Video Transcript This is Jen Powell, and she's about to become the first woman to be an umpire in a regular season MLB game when the Marlins take on the Braves this weekend. Jen has been steadily climbing the MLB umpire ranks for the past nine years, and just last season, she was the first female to umpire a spring training game in 17 years, but she's not the only woman to break barriers. In sports in 1997, Violet Palmer made history by becoming the first official female referee in the NBA. In 2015, Sarah Thomas became the first full-time female official in NFL history, and in 2023, Rebecca Welch became the first woman to referee a Premier League match. Women in sports continued to defy all the odds to make history. Close

Inter Miami beats Pumas 3-1 in Leagues Cup

Luis Suárez scored and had two assists, and Inter Miami beat Pumas 3-1 on Wednesday night to advance in the Leagues Cup. Miami played the match without Lionel Messi, who is sidelined indefinitely with what the team described as a minor muscle injury in his right leg. Messi was hurt in the opening minutes of Inter Miami's win over Necaxa on Saturday. He was in attendance for Wednesday's match and watched from a suite at Chase Stadium. Miami, which has eight points in the Major League Soccer Leagues Cup standings, is the first MLS club through to the tournament's knockout stages. Rodrigo De Paul scored his first Inter Miami goal on an assist from Suárez in the 45th, tying the match after Pumas' Jorge Ruvalcaba opened scoring in the 34th. De Paul, the star Argentine midfielder who came to MLS to play with his national team friend Messi, made his club debut in Inter Miami's League's Cup opener against Atlas last Wednesday and had two assists against Necaxa. Suárez put Inter Miami ahead 2-1 when he converted a penalty kick in the 59th after a handball was called on Pumas defender José Caicedo in the penalty area. It was Suárez first goal since he scored in Inter Miami's Club World Cup match against Palmeiras on June 23. Tadeo Allende finished Suárez's second assist of the night in the 69th.
