
Solapur ZP schools participate in experiment involving evaluation of papers with help of AI
As government schools across Maharashtra declared the final results on Thursday, a unique experiment unfolded in 12 Zilla Parishad (ZP) schools in Solapur district. A total of 225 students received their results based on an AI-assisted evaluation model called 'Hack the Classroom'. Their answer sheets were scanned and assessed using artificial intelligence and it was verified by teachers, who parallelly assessed papers physically.
The project is the brainchild of Ranjitsinh Disale, a global award-winning teacher currently pursuing a Master's in Education at Harvard University. Disale developed the AI model in collaboration with Harvard's Innovation Lab. 'This was a pilot run to see whether AI can assist in evaluation and identify areas for improvement,' he said.
One class from each participating school was chosen for the experiment. To prepare, students submitted samples of their handwriting—numbers and alphabets in both Marathi and English—so the AI could interpret their responses. 'The AI is specifically designed to create and check question papers in Marathi as we have Marathi-medium schools,' said Disale who highlighted that the pilot run revealed that AI evaluation significantly reduces time. 'Teachers took an average of one minute 42 seconds to check a 20 marks paper and five minutes 27 seconds for a 50-mark paper. The AI completed the same tasks in just 32 seconds,' said Disale.
On accuracy, Disale said ,handwriting did pose a challenge. 'The accuracy was reported at 95 per cent, with the AI struggling to read the handwriting of about 5 per cent students,' told Disale while adding that the AI model also generated a six-week learning plan for students, based on assessment.
Disale pointed out that it was an appropriate time to test his experiment as with a delayed academic year, teachers had less time for evaluation of papers, which sparked the need for such innovation.
Pradeep Tandale, a teacher from ZP School Tembhurni, which participated in the experiment, appreciated the time saved in clerical tasks such as marks calculation and tabulation. However, he emphasized that AI should complement, not replace, teacher evaluations. 'AI can miss nuances in student responses. A teacher can recognize handwriting even in broken or unclear sentences, which a machine might not consider,' he said.

Reliance only Indian firm in highly valued global technology companies list
Billionaire Mukesh Ambani's Reliance Industries is the only Indian firm to have made it to the listing of top 30 publicly traded global technology companies, as per a 340-page report, titled 'Trends - Artificial Intelligence', that delves into the rapid global adoption and transformative impact of AI technologies. The report lists global technology companies by market capitalisation. Top eight slots on the list are occupied by US technology giants - Microsoft, Nvidia, Apple, Amazon, Alphabet, Meta Platforms, Tesla and Broadcom. Taiwan's TSMC is ranked 9th, followed by China's Tencent. Reliance, with a market capitalisation of USD 216 billion, is ranked 23rd, according to the list. "Over the past 30 years (1995-2025), just five companies remained on the top 30 most highly valued publicly traded global technology companies - Microsoft, Oracle, Cisco, IBM and AT&T," the report said. It went on to list Reliance alongside the likes of Nvidia, Apple, Amazon, Alphabet, Meta, Tesla, Alibaba, Salesforce and China Mobile as the new entrants. "In 1995, the USA had 53% (16 of 30) of the most valuable tech companies and 70 per cent (21 of 30) in 2025," it said. In 1995, Japan had 30% (9 of 30) of top tech companies and zero in 2025. The UK, Singapore, Hong Kong, Mexico and Malaysia had 1 each, but now none are on the list. "In 2025, new geographic entrants include China with 3, Germany with 2, Taiwan with 1, Netherlands with 1, South Korea with 1 and India with 1," it said. Taiwan has only one company on the list - TSMC - the company produces 80-90% of the world's most advanced semiconductors and 62% of global semiconductors. According to the report, India has the most number of ChatGPT mobile app users in the world. It accounts for 13.5% of monthly active users of the artificial intelligence (AI)-powered chatbot developed by OpenAI. It is ahead of the USA (8.9%), Indonesia (5.7 %) and Brazil (5.4%). Pakistan has 3% of users. India also accounts for 6.9% of active global users of Chinese AI app DeepSeek, behind China (33.9%) and Russia (9.2%). "Artificial intelligence is reshaping the modern landscape at breakneck speed. What began as research has scaled into emerging core infrastructure across industries - powering everything from customer support to software development, scientific discovery, education, and manufacturing," the report said. AI, it said, is accelerating, touching more domains, and becoming more embedded in how work gets done. "Catalysing this growth is the global availability of easy-to-use multimodal AI tools (like ChatGPT) on pervasive mobile devices, augmented by a steep decline in inference costs and an explosion in model availability. Both closed and open-source tools are now widely accessible and increasingly capable, enabling solo developers, startups, and enterprises alike to experiment and deploy with minimal friction," it said. Large tech incumbents are weaving AI deeper into their products - rolling out copilots, assistants, and even agents that reframe how users engage with technology. Whether through embedded intelligence in SaaS or agentic workflows in consumer apps, the interface layer is being rewritten in real time. On the compute side, investment continues to scale dramatically. Capital expenditures across major cloud providers, chipmakers, and hyperscalers have hit new highs, driven by the race to enable real-time, high-volume inference at scale. The investment is not just in chips, but also in new data centres, networking infrastructure, and energy systems to support growing demand. "Whether this level of capital expenditure persists remains to be seen, but as AI moves closer to the edge - in vehicles, farms, labs, and homes - distinction between digital and physical infrastructure continues to blur," the report said. Astrolabe found at Raigad Fort to be displayed at Mumbai's museum soon
1 2 3 4 Kolhapur: The Archaeological Survey of India and the Raigad Development Authority's joint excavation has unearthed a 'yantraraj' (astrolabe) at Raigad, Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj 's capital fort. Excavations conducted over three to four years at approximately 10 to 12 locations, spanning from the ropeway upper station to Kushavarta lake, and from the marketplace to the Jagdishwar temple, revealed structures from Shivaji Maharaj's period. The ancient yantraraj was found near a historic mansion above Kushavarta lake, situated between the rain gauge and Wadeshwar temple, though its recent disclosure came years after its discovery. The upper surface of the astrolabe features inscriptions, including two animal engravings in the centre resembling a tortoise or snake. The inscribed words "mukh" and "poonchh" indicate the head and tail positions, presumably used for determining north-south orientations. An ASI senior officer, speaking anonymously, said, "The rectangle-shaped instrument has inscriptions in the Sanskrit language and in Devanagari script — Shaka 1519 — meaning it was made in 1597 as per the English calendar and was used at the time Raigad was renovated in 1656 and where Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj was coronated in 1674. The astrolabe found is made of copper-bronze, and such astrolabes were common during that time, especially used by astrologers and seafarers to gaze at the stars and find directions through calculations. " The fort's conservation efforts have yielded various artefacts, including Shivrais (coins minted by Shivaji Maharaj), utensils made of glass and clay, weapons, and lamps, all currently held by ASI Mumbai Circle. According to an ASI source, the astrolabe will undergo chemical treatment for preservation before being exhibited in Mumbai's museum. Raigad stands as a testament to Maratha architectural excellence and strategic planning. Sambhajiraje Chhatrapati, who heads the Raigad Development Authority, said, "The fort seems to have been built by studying astronomical sciences, as shown by the finding of the astrolabe. Further study of the instrument will shed more light on the administration of Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj. Who Is Devdatta Majhi? JEE Advanced Female Topper From West Bengal Board Secured AIR 16
Last Updated: JEE Advanced Results 2025: Devdatta Majhi has secured the top rank in the girls' category and an overall rank of 16. She also scored full marks in JEE Main session 2. Many students from Hindi-medium backgrounds often face language-related challenges in exams like JEE, NEET, and UPSC. However, Devdatta Majhi from West Bengal has proved otherwise. The youngster from Katwa in West Bengal has topped the Joint Entrance Examination (JEE) Advanced 2025, despite attending a Bengali-medium school. She has secured the top rank in the girls' category and an overall rank of 16. She scored 312 out of 360 marks in the IIT entrance exam. Devdatta also excelled in the JEE Main 2025 exam, participating in both sessions. She achieved an All India Rank (AIR) of 15 in the January session of JEE Main. Later, she gained significant attention by scoring a perfect 300 out of 300 in the second session of JEE Main. Hailing from the village of Jambad in the Adasha block of the Purulia district in West Bengal, Devdatta has consistently been a top performer throughout her academic journey, even during her school days. She attended Durgadasi Choudhary Girls High School in Katwa. She achieved an impressive 697 out of 700 marks in the Madhyamik examination of 2023, which is 99.57 per cent, thereby securing the first rank. Her father, Jayant Majhi, is a Physics professor at BB College in Asansol, and her mother, Seli Devi, teaches at Durgadasi Choudhrani Girls High School in Katwa. She studied up to class 5 at a school in her village Jambad. Following her parents' job transfers, the family moved to Katwa. According to family sources, Devdatta aspires to study Mathematics at IISC Bangalore and later pursue Astrophysics research at ISRO. JEE Advanced 2025 results today, June 2. As per the results, the top 15 ranks have been secured by male candidates. Rajit Gupta from the IIT Delhi zone has secured All India Rank (AIR) 1 with a score of 332 out of 360.
