JEE Advanced Results 2025: Devdatta Majhi has secured the top rank in the girls' category and an overall rank of 16. She also scored full marks in JEE Main session 2.
Many students from Hindi-medium backgrounds often face language-related challenges in exams like JEE, NEET, and UPSC. However, Devdatta Majhi from West Bengal has proved otherwise. The youngster from Katwa in West Bengal has topped the Joint Entrance Examination (JEE) Advanced 2025, despite attending a Bengali-medium school. She has secured the top rank in the girls' category and an overall rank of 16. She scored 312 out of 360 marks in the IIT entrance exam.
Devdatta also excelled in the JEE Main 2025 exam, participating in both sessions. She achieved an All India Rank (AIR) of 15 in the January session of JEE Main. Later, she gained significant attention by scoring a perfect 300 out of 300 in the second session of JEE Main.
Hailing from the village of Jambad in the Adasha block of the Purulia district in West Bengal, Devdatta has consistently been a top performer throughout her academic journey, even during her school days. She attended Durgadasi Choudhary Girls High School in Katwa. She achieved an impressive 697 out of 700 marks in the Madhyamik examination of 2023, which is 99.57 per cent, thereby securing the first rank.
Her father, Jayant Majhi, is a Physics professor at BB College in Asansol, and her mother, Seli Devi, teaches at Durgadasi Choudhrani Girls High School in Katwa. She studied up to class 5 at a school in her village Jambad. Following her parents' job transfers, the family moved to Katwa. According to family sources, Devdatta aspires to study Mathematics at IISC Bangalore and later pursue Astrophysics research at ISRO.
JEE Advanced 2025 results today, June 2. As per the results, the top 15 ranks have been secured by male candidates. Rajit Gupta from the IIT Delhi zone has secured All India Rank (AIR) 1 with a score of 332 out of 360. A total of 1,80,422 candidates appeared for both Paper 1 and Paper 2 of which 54,378 qualified, including 9,404 female candidates.

'Be Consistent': How Mumbai's Sahil Deo Went From Rank 102 In JEE Mains To AIR 7 In Advanced?

'Being consistent is the key", says 18-year-old Sahil Mukesh Deo who grabbed the seventh spot in the JEE Advanced 2025, the results of which were released on Monday. However, it was no mean feat for Sahil who was quite demotivated after his JEE Mains 2025 exams held in February and April. He had scored an All India Rank of 102. But it was his love for science and motivation by his teachers that kept him going. After securing more than 99 per cent in his 10th boards from Wisdom High International School, Nashik, Sahil, shifted to Mumbai in class 11 to prepare for the JEE Advanced. It was his love for computer applications that made him take up engineering. 'I have always been interested in science especially the application part such as computer science and mathematics. Coding is something that grabbed my attention. Hence CSE at IIT Bombay is a natural choice," the youngster said. He joined Narayana in class 11 for his JEE preparations. While Sahil scored 285 marks in JEE Main session 1, he got 270 marks in session 2. However, he proved that once you set your goals, nothing can stop you and made a comeback in the IIT entrance exam by securing 321 marks out 360 or AIR 7 in JEE Advanced. 'Mains did not go very well for me. The final rank was 102 and I had lost a lot of confidence after that. My teachers really motivated me. They had explained how JEE Mains and Advanced are different exams. Hence, I had to keep myself motivated," Sahil told News18. Talking about his preparation process, he said, 'While I kept no track of how long I studied, I would continue with my preparations at anytime I could. After returning home from classes in the evening, I would relax for sometime, watch some YouTube videos, and then get back to study. Again, take break during dinner time and go back study. It's more about consistency. It's the key. Study whenever you get the chance to and create those opportunities more often. Don't let it slip and think so now I can relax." He had also appeared for Chemistry, Physics and Astronomy Olympiads in 12th standard. 'I was also selected for the Indian National Olympiads in the second level however couldn't crack the third level as I did not really prepare for it," he said. Devdutta Majhi, who made headlines by topping the West Bengal Madhyamik exams in 2023 and securing the 6th position in the Higher Secondary exams, has now achieved yet another extraordinary milestone. She has emerged as the female topper in JEE Advanced 2025, earning an impressive All India Rank 16 in the Common Rank List with 312 marks. She also topped the state of West Bengal and the IIT Kharagpur zone. Hailing from the IIT Kharagpur zone, she is one of the five students from the region to make it to the top 100. A student of Katwa Durgadasi Chaudhurani Girls' High School, Devdutta's consistent academic brilliance has now been stamped with national-level success. She chose to prepare from home, using online resources to clear her doubts and improve her understanding. She also regularly practiced through mock tests to sharpen her skills. After finishing her Madhyamik exams in 2023, Devdutta followed a strict study routine, dedicating at least 10 hours a day for JEE preparation. Speaking to The Times of India, she said, 'I had a clear goal i.e. to crack JEE Advanced. I avoided all social events, family functions, and distractions to stay focused.' 'You need a proper study plan and consistent practice over two years. At the end of the day, self-study is the most effective tool,' she shared. What makes her achievement even more meaningful is the personal sacrifice that came with it. Devdutta, who used to love playing the violin, set it aside completely during her preparation. 'I didn't touch my violin for two years. It was something I loved deeply, but I knew I had to give it up. The only break I allowed myself was talking to my mother about my studies,' she said with a smile. After securing AIR 16 in JEE Advanced 2025 and emerging as the female topper, Devdutta now wants to get admission in the Indian Institute of Science (IISc), Bangalore. She wants to explore the world of artificial intelligence and robotics, especially in the field of research. The JEE Advanced 2025, conducted on May 18, saw 1.8 lakh candidates appear for both Paper 1 and Paper 2. Out of those, 54,378 students qualified, including 9,404 girls.
