Responding to this, Joint Chief Electoral Officer Yogeshwar S, in a letter dated August 2, wrote: "With reference to your letter dated 31st July 2025, I am hereby directed to inform you that this office does not have records of any such letter received from you during April 2023 on the issue of electoral rolls with a list containing details of alleged forged entries in the voters list pertaining to 174-Mahadevapura Assembly Constituency, which you have suddenly raised now."
The official added that a certified copy of the electoral roll was made available to all candidates, including Nagesh, during the election, and is also accessible online.
He pointed out that no legal remedy had been pursued by Nagesh under the Representation of the People Act, stating, "Since then, you have not filed any election petition with respect to 174-Mahadevapura Assembly Constituency as per Section 80 of the Representation of the People Act, 1951, nor any appeal to either the first appellate authority or second appellate authority against entries in the electoral rolls published in 2023 as per Section 24 of the Representation of the People Act, 1950."
The Congress party has announced a protest in Bengaluru on Monday against what it calls large-scale electoral fraud. Leader of the Opposition in the Lok Sabha Rahul Gandhi is expected to take part in the demonstration.
Party leaders allege that thousands of bogus names were added and genuine voters deleted to influence the outcome in Mahadevapura and other constituencies during the
2023 Assembly elections

SC remarks on Rahul Gandhi 'extraordinary, unwarranted': Opposition

NEW DELHI: The opposition INDIA bloc on Tuesday termed as "unwarranted" Supreme Court 's remarks on Rahul Gandhi , asserting that they encroach on the democratic rights of political parties, which have a responsibility to speak on issues of national interest. Congress MP Priyanka Gandhi Vadra said the Supreme Court cannot decide who is a "true Indian", stressing that Rahul holds the Army in the highest regard. A joint statement issued by the bloc said, "All the leaders of the INDIA parties agreed that the sitting judge has made an extraordinary observation, which is unwarranted given the democratic rights of political parties. It is the responsibility of political parties, especially the leader of opposition, to comment on issues of national interest". It added, "When a govt fails so spectacularly to defend our borders, it is every citizen's moral duty to hold it accountable". INDIA bloc discussed the apex court's remarks at the morning meeting of floor leaders in Parliament, which was attended by Congress president Mallikarjun Kharge and Rahul Gandhi. After RSP MP NK Premachandran raised the issue, questioning SC's remarks, the same was endorsed by John Brittas (CPM), Kanimozhi (DMK), Kakoli Ghosh Dastidar (TMC), Ramgopal Yadav (SP), Arvind Sawant (SS-UBT), Supriya Sule (NCP-SP), Rajkumar Roat (BAP). by Taboola by Taboola Sponsored Links Sponsored Links Promoted Links Promoted Links You May Like Best Software Categories Undo Best Software Categories Undo Best Software Categories Undo Best Software Categories Undo Best Software Categories Undo Best Software Categories Undo Best Software Categories Undo A decision was then made to issue a joint statement . Abhishek urges unity within party, attacks BJP during TMC meet

1 2 Kolkata: A day after being appointed Trinamool's leader in Lok Sabha, party national general secretary Abhishek Banerjee launched a scathing attack on BJP during a virtual meeting with nearly 9,000 party functionaries on Tuesday. Amid preparations for the 2026 assembly elections, Banerjee underscored the need for discipline and accountability within the party. He warned against infighting and favouritism within party ranks, saying, "Everyone is a soldier of Mamata Banerjee ." He instructed booth-level party workers to conduct voter list verifications and report irregularities by Aug 31. "If BJP tries to drop even one name, they will not be allowed to step in Bengal," he warned. He also instructed party functionaries to say "Jai Bangla" when they see BJP netas. He urged party workers to hold 80,000 meetings across the state to reach out to the people. He said functionaries in booths or blocks where the party lost by more than 100 votes must be replaced. Banerjee hailed the state govt's doorstep grievance redressal programme, 'Amader Para, Amader Samadhan', as a historic first since Independence. by Taboola by Taboola Sponsored Links Sponsored Links Promoted Links Promoted Links You May Like Learn More - How Donating Plasma May Boost Your Income SpellRock Undo He urged party workers to showcase development initiatives and expose BJP's "divisive politics". Referring to a recent Delhi Police letter that allegedly labelled Bengali as "Bangladeshi language", Banerjee accused BJP of repeatedly insulting Bengal and its culture. "This is why we call them 'Bangla birodhi' and 'zamindars'. How dare they call Bangla bhasha as Bangladeshi?" he asked. He questioned why no BJP MLA spoke out against the "insult" meted out by BJP IT cell head, Amit Malviya towards Bengalis. The TMC MP also raised concerns over issues like the NRC in Assam, the SIR, and alleged cases of fake residential certificates in Bihar. He reiterated that the Centre owed Bengal over Rs 1.75 lakh crore in dues.

HC seeks to know TN's stand on quota for trans persons

Chennai: While commending Tamil Nadu govt's Policy For Transgender Persons, 2025, and calling it a significant step forward for the community, Madras high court said the govt's stand on granting horizontal reservation for the community in education and jobs remained unclear. "It is not clear as to whether the govt wants to provide horizontal reservation, which has been the request of the community and which has been reflected in many of the earlier orders passed by various courts, including a division bench of this court," said Justice N Anand Venkatesh on Tuesday. Hence, the state is directed to take a decision in this regard so that the community need not knock on the doors of this court every time and seek the reservation, the court added. Besides the horizontal reservation, the other issue requiring immediate consideration pertains to the district-level and state-level committees to monitor and review the progress in the implementation of the policy, the court said. "The state must ensure that there is representation of at least one transwoman, transman, and intersex person in the committee for its effective functioning," Justice Anand Venkatesh said. by Taboola by Taboola Sponsored Links Sponsored Links Promoted Links Promoted Links You May Like AirSense 11 – Smart tech for deep sleep ResMed Buy Now Undo You Can Also Check: Chennai AQI | Weather in Chennai | Bank Holidays in Chennai | Public Holidays in Chennai Insofar as the marriage of transgender and intersex people is concerned, the same was already recognised by the Supreme Court; however, the real challenge is faced when they seek registration of marriages before the registrar," the court pointed out. "Hence, the state must issue necessary directions to the registrars about the legal sanction of these marriages," he added. Another suggestion for the govt was regarding the deed of familial association or other types of domestic partnership/civil union which the parties may enter to govern their rights. This issue has significance since none of the Succession Acts recognises such rights, and therefore, the parties must be able to at least deal with their rights by entering into such agreements, the court said. The court further recorded the submission of the govt that insofar as the policy for LGBTQIA+, the same is under process and some time is required to finalize it. Now that the govt has come out with a policy for transgender and intersex persons, it is time that it comes up with a policy for LGBTQIA+ people also. This process should be expedited, the court said.
