Rangers transfer target forced off injured in pre-season

Rak-Sakyi had only come on as a substitute for the Premier League side after 64 minutes but he would then have to leave the field before the final whistle.
The 22-year-old replaced Ismaila Sarr in the second half but would need to be subbed off in the 89th minute.
Rak-Sakyi had gone down requiring treatment with just one minute of the 90 remaining. He was checked by physios before being replaced by Kaden Rodney.
The severity of the injury is not yet known, but Rak-Sakyi did leave the pitch by his own power as he walked off the park.

Rangers are one of a number of clubs interested in the winger this summer with Russell Martin an admirer of the player.
In fact, the Ibrox boss had tried to sign Rak-Sakyi when he was in charge at Southampton but was unable to strike a deal.
Rangers tabled a loan bid for Rak-Sakyi earlier this week, as revealed by The Rangers Review.
On Sky Sports, Martin said of possible Rak-Sakyi interest: "I think there are a lot of players we will be linked with, some wide of the mark, some very close and some spot on.
"He's a player I liked at Southampton and tried to take there, and it didn't quite happen.
"He's a player I like and I think he's a player the recruitment staff like, but how far that's gone, I'm not too sure.
Responding to a follow-up question on whether the winger fits the right profile of player Rangers are chasing this summer, he added: "He's a really good player. We look at all sorts of different profiles that we think can help the team.
"So it doesn't necessarily have to be one type of profile; players are very different.
"We just need the ones with the right mentality that are desperate to come and play here and we'll see where we end up in four weeks time."

Crystal Palace discover their fate after Europa League legal battle

Crystal Palace will play in the Conference League this season after losing their appeal against UEFA at the Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS). The Eagles qualified for the Europa League after beating Manchester City in the FA Cup final last season – winning the first major trophy in their history. However, UEFA demoted them to the Conference League after ruling that the Premier League side were in breach of their multi-club ownership rules – despite not technically being part of a multi-club ownership set-up. Palace's – now former – largest shareholder John Textor also owns French club Lyon who had also qualified for the Europa League by finish sixth in Ligue 1. Palace appealed the decision at CAS, hoping to be reinstated into Europe's second-tier competition with the hearing taking place on Friday, but on Monday it was announced that they had lost their case. Arsenal icon names 'game-changer' transfer target who could replace Martinelli

Arsenal icon Nigel Winterburn believes Eberechi Eze could replace Gabriel Martinelli if the Gunners sign the Crystal Palace superstar. The north London club have been strongly linked with a move for Eze in the summer transfer window with the player thought to be keen on a switch to the Emirates. Eze was recently seen posing for pictures with Arsenal fans on social media, and was asked about joining Mikel Arteta's side by a supporter at Wembley on Sunday after Palace won the Community Shield on penalties. Arsenal are reluctant to pay Eze's £68m price tag – but believe they can negotiate a lower fee before the summer window closes on September 1. The Gunners feel Eze's best position is when he operates as a No.10 but also view him as a versatile attacking player who can be deployed on the left. In The Mixer: Exclusive analysis, FPL tips and transfer talk sent straight to your inbox every week – sign up, it's an open goal. Rio Ferdinand has questioned where Eze would fit into Arsenal's XI if he does complete a move to the Emirates – but Winterburn is convinced he'd be coming in to challenge Marinelli for a regular spot on the left wing. Quizzed about Arsenal's interest in Eze, Winterburn told Metro via 'I think he'd be a good fit. 'Whether we would get him or not I don't know. He's a player who I think is a game-changer. He's a lovely player. 'Would I love to have him in the Arsenal squad? Of course I would. I don't know what money Arsenal have got left – they may have to shift out one or two players first. 'But if you asked me if we should take Eze, I would say yes.' Eze is usually deployed as an attacking midfielder but the 27-year-old England international can also be used as a left winger and the latter position is exactly where Winterburn thinks he would play at Arsenal. 'He's going to compete with Martinelli,' Winterburn added. 'All the players we're being linked with suggest they want to strengthen on the left side. More Trending 'That's where they're feeling at the moment where the competition isn't as strong as it should be. 'They can move players around, of course they can, but I would say he'll come in and play on the left side. 'He could also play as the No.10 if Martin Odegaard need a rest or picks up an injury.' Martinelli has been linked with an Arsenal exit this summer – attracting interest from the likes of Barcelona, Bayern Munich and a number of clubs in the Saudi Pro League. Defender Malick Thiaw closing in on Newcastle switch

AC Milan defender Malick Thiaw was on Tyneside on Monday to undergo a medical as he closed in on a move to Newcastle. The 24-year-old Germany international flew in on Sunday after the two clubs agreed a fee understood to amount to an initial 35million Euros, around £30.3m. Thiaw has made 85 appearances for the Serie A club, which he joined from Schalke in August 2022, one of them in a 0-0 Champions League draw with the Magpies at the San Siro in September 2023. Should the deal go through, Thiaw will be head coach Eddie Howe's third senior recruit of a difficult summer following the £55million capture of Nottingham Forest winger Anthony Elanga and a loan move for Southampton goalkeeper Aaron Ramsdale. Thiaw's arrival would strengthen a central defensive pool which currently includes Sven Botman, Fabian Schar, Dan Burn and Jamaal Lascelles. It would also provide a measure of respite for Howe, who is having to contend with the ongoing search for new recruits while dealing with the situation surrounding want-away striker Alexander Isak. Newcastle open their Premier League campaign at Aston Villa on Saturday having won none of their pre-season fixtures and with their transfer mission far from complete.
