Punjab Police ADGP, inspector get President medal for distinguished service
Inspector Suresh played a pivotal role in solving the ₹8.49 crore robbery at the CMS cash management firm.
Similarly, one IPS officer, inspector general of police (Intelligence-II) Gurdial Singh, and one PPS officer, DSP SSOC-Amritsar Gurpreet Singh, are among 14 officers/officials who have been awarded the medal for meritorious service.
The remaining officials include inspector Satinder Kumar, inspector Deepak Kumar, Inspector Jagdeep Singh, inspector Tejinderpal Singh, SI Amrik Singh, SI Sanjiv Kumar, SI Amritpal Singh, SI Anil Kumar, SI Bhupinder Singh, ASI Jaswinderjit Singh, ASI Kuldeep Singh, and SI Krishan Kumar.
Punjab director general of police (DGP) Gaurav Yadav congratulated the awardees and said that such recognition plays a significant role in encouraging the police force to work with more dedication and devotion.
4 Bathinda cops to get CM Rakshak Padak for saving 11 from drowning
Chandigarh:
Assistant sub-inspector (ASI) Rajinder Singh, ASI Narinder Singh, senior constable Jaswant Singh, and senior constable Harpal Kaur have been nominated for the Chief Minister's Rakshak Padak award for saving the lives of 11 people after a car fell into the Sirhind Canal in Bathinda on July 23.
The police personnel will be felicitated on the occasion of Independence Day.
Similarly, 15 officials, who have been selected for the Chief Minister's Medal for Outstanding Devotion to Duty, include SHO police station Kiratpur Sahib Inspector Jatin Kapoor, Amritsar City CIA incharge Insp Amolakdeep Singh Kahlon, Incharge Yuva Saanjh Programme Inspector Navneet Kaur, Inspector Prabhjit Kumar from Intelligence Wing, SI Lovedeep Singh, SI Gurmail Singh, SI Dimple Kumar, SI Sukhchain Singh, SI Satwinder Singh, ASI Harjinder Singh, ASI Sandeep Singh, HC Sandeep Singh, HC Akbal Singh, HC Karambir Singh, and HC Jagjeet Singh.

13-year-old raped by father for three months
Nagpur: A 13-year-old school dropout girl was allegedly raped for nearly three months by her father. After the girl confided in her mother about the exploitation, a complaint was lodged with Kalamna police, who have registered an offence of rape against the father and arrested the accused. Police said the teenager was allegedly threatened of dire consequences by her father, a casual labourer, cautioning her against sharing the ordeal. The man had threatened the daughter that he would even kill her mother if she divulged anything about the rape. The girl had survived the torture since June this year. She disclosed the matter to her mother on Independence Day. Senior inspector Praveen Kale of Kalamna police station said the man was arrested immediately on receiving complaint and has been booked under Prevention of Children from Sexual Offences (Pocso) Act. 3 days after workers' death, BSNL officials clueless about who sent them to cable chamber
Pune: Three days after three contract workers allegedly died of suffocation inside a BSNL cable chamber in Nigdi, officials are still not able to determine who sent them to carry out 'work' on a holiday. National Commission for Schedule Castes on Monday took a suo motu congnisance of the matter and issued notices to Pune collector, Pimpri Chinchwad police and municipal commissioners, and BSNL's chief general manager. It has asked them to submit a report within three days. BSNL's assistant general manager Bharat Sonawane, who oversees the Pimpri Chinchwad region, told TOI that no maintenance complaint was assigned to any vendor on Aug 15, and there was no record of the chamber being opened on that day. Sonawane said a standard operating procedure exists for permanent and contract staff while carrying out repairs, but it was not followed. "A customer complaint is first routed through us, after which a team is assigned. No worker is permitted to open a chamber without prior approval," he said. Around 3pm on Friday, four workers went near the 10-foot-deep cable chamber for 'work' and one of them entered the duct. After he became unresponsive, two of his colleagues entered and soon went incommunicado. The fourth one, without taking chances, called for help, following which a team from the Pimpri Chinchwad Municipal Corporation's fire department and local police reached the spot and found all three of them unconscious. They were taken to a nearby hospital where doctors declared them dead and cited suffocation as reason of death. BSNL has outsourced its maintenance and new connection work across the country to Telecom Infrastructure Partners, which further executes it through local contractors. Ramesh Patil, a contractor responsible for the maintenance of BSNL's Pimpri Chinchwad network, said, "All workers were on holiday on Independence Day, and there was no complaint requiring urgent repair." He added that only one of the three deceased victims was associated with his team and he was not expected to be at work that day. Activists, however, said that police must fix responsibility and book those responsible for the incident. "Police should have registered a suo motu FIR in the matter instead of registering an accidental death case when the negligence is clearly visible. State govt should also provide financial assistance to the families of victims," activist Maruti Bhapkar said. Sonawane clarified that even in cases where optical line terminals are installed for new connections, for which chambers need to be opened, a request has to be filed at least three months in advance, and approval is granted only after a team's inspection. The BSNL copper cables in question were laid 15-20 years ago and were rarely accessed, except during major faults, he said. "All new connections now use overhead cables, which do not require opening chambers," he added. Dayanand Shinde, deputy general manager for BSNL Pune region, said, "We will issue a circular to all contractors to ensure that workers do not attend to any complaint directly without keeping BSNL officials in the loop. President's Medal for four from state
1 2 Bhubaneswar: Two Odisha Police personnel and one each from the fire service and prisons directorate have been awarded the President's Medal for Distinguished Service (PSM). The Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA) made the announcement on Thursday, on the eve of Independence Day. Altogether, 31 personnel from Odisha Police, fire service, home guard and civil defence, and prisons wing were honoured with gallantry and service medals. The distinguished list includes 22 from Odisha Police, two from the fire service, four from the home guard and civil defence, and three from the prisons directorate. Odisha Police's ASP Rabindra Kumar Panda and Commandant Naresh Kumar Patel were recognised with the President's Medal for Distinguished Service. Additionally, nine officers received the Gallantry Medal (GM), and 11 were awarded the Medal for Meritorious Service (MSM). In the fire service wing, firefighters Sudhakar Panigrahi and Dillip Kumar Nanda were honoured with the MSM. From the home guard wing, Dolagobinda Mohapatra received the PSM, while home guards Aswini Kumar Das, Jitendra Lenka and civil defence volunteer Biswo Ranjan Kunar were awarded the MSM. The prisons directorate saw Kamakhi Prasad Pati receiving the PSM, with Sudhir Kumar Jena and Saroj Kumar Padhy being honoured with the MSM.
