Haval maker: Sazgar says not increasing vehicle prices despite new tax

Sazgar Engineering Works (SAZEW) - company engaged in manufacturing and sale of automobiles, automotive parts and household electric appliances - said on Friday it had decided not to increase its vehicle prices for end-consumers despite imposition of a new tax in the Budget 2025-26.
In a letter sent to Haval dealers in Pakistan on Friday, the company said it was absorbing the impact of the 'additional levy to ensure that the final payment of our vehicles remains unchanged'.
'Following the recent announcement of the Federal Budget 2025, a new government levy under New Energy Vehicles Adoption Levy Act, 2025 has been imposed on all our vehicles. As a responsible and customer-focused organisation, Sazgar has consistently taken proactive measures to protect the interests of its valued customers.

'True to this commitment, we are pleased to inform you [dealers] that the company has decided to absorb the impact of this additional levy to ensure that the final payment of our vehicles remains unchanged including all taxes and duties,' the letter read.
To recall, some of the industry players have increased their vehicles prices to pass on the impact of the levy on cost of production this week, including Lucky Motors (the assembler of Kia cars), Pak Suzuki Motor and Atlas Honda - the bike manufacturer in the country.
The car sales in Pakistan surged 39% in the first 11 months of FY25, standing at 126,226 units in the under review period compared to the same period of the prior fiscal year; FY24.

Urban waste: Sindh adopts aggressive recycling strategy

KARACHI: The Sindh Solid Waste Management Board (SSWMB) has begun implementing an ambitious strategy to ensure that up to 50 percent of urban garbage generated in Sindh — comprising organic waste and other recyclable materials does not end up in landfill sites but is instead recycled for the good of the environment. SSWMB Managing Director Tariq Ali Nizamani, speaking as the keynote speaker at the Annual Environment Conference-2025 organised by the National Forum for Environment & Health (NFEH), said this effort had already seen the establishment of three waste recycling, compost and biofuel production plants in Karachi, while the fourth one — a plastic recycling facility began operating in Hyderabad on 1 August 2025. He said that approximately 14,000 tonnes of municipal waste generated in Karachi and 1,1000 tonnes produced in Hyderabad daily were a massive challenge for SSWMB, whose disposal should take place through such sustainable means. These strategies will be deployed to make Sindh clean and green, said the SSWMB chief. The Hyderabad's new recycling plant processes 25 tonnes of inferior-quality polyethylene waste daily, converting it into high-strength, eco-friendly manhole covers. Each 50-kilogramme cover can withstand up to 18 tonnes of pressure, replacing metallic covers that are often stolen, causing fatal accidents. He added that the World Bank-backed facility would employ around 80 people formerly working in the informal sector. Alongside plastic recycling, the SSWMB would conduct training workshops to educate citizens on converting daily kitchen waste into compost to enhance green cover in their neighbourhoods. Highlighting SSWMB's ongoing sustainability initiatives, Nizamani informed the audience that more than half of Sindh's urban waste comprises organic and recyclable materials that can be repurposed, substantially reducing pressure on landfill sites. The conference, themed 'Environment, Climate Change, Corporate Leadership – Towards a Sustainable Pakistan' also featured speeches emphasising the need for provincial autonomy to effectively address environmental degradation and climate change. Selected in past three years: FBR grants audit immunity to taxpayers

ISLAMABAD: The Federal Board of Revenue (FBR) has given immunity from income tax audit to those persons whose income tax affairs have been selected for audit in any of the proceeding three tax years. The FBR has issued an income tax circular to explain the Finance Act 2025. According to the FBR, the original clause in this regard was introduced through Finance Act,2022 placing bar on selection of any case for audit under sections 177 and 214C for four years if audit of income tax affairs of that case has been audited in any of the four proceeding years. The original intension of the said clause was to avoid repeated audits which have been resulting in genuine hardship to taxpayers. However, multiple interpretation of said clause resulted in multiple outcomes resulting in inconsistency in application of the said clause by the field formation. Through Finance Act, 2025 the said clause has been redrafted for clarity which stipulates that a person whose income tax affairs have been selected for audit in any of the proceeding three tax years, such person will be immune from the selection for audit under sections 177 and 214C of the Ordinance during the currency of that time frame, FBR added.
