Jets' Justin Fields says his focus on his faith the past 6 months has helped him shake off criticism
The New York Jets quarterback would let it affect him, too. It would even shape his own opinions about his play and abilities.

'I just let people be and let them speak,' Fields said after a joint practice with the Giants on Tuesday. 'That's not going to affect me whatsoever.'
But it used to, he acknowledged.
'I would say I just kind of got like this the past six months, to be honest with you,' Fields said.
It was a somewhat surprising revelation from Fields, given the ups and downs he has had during his NFL journey since being the 11th overall pick by Chicago out of Ohio State in 2021. He went from the hopeful franchise quarterback of the Bears to out the door after only three seasons, traded to Pittsburgh last year.
He started for an injured Russell Wilson and went 4-2 in six games for the Steelers before seeing the bench again in favor of the veteran — who's also now in New York, but with the Giants. During this past offseason, Fields signed a two-year, $40 million deal with the Jets — who immediately labeled him their new starter.
Coach Aaron Glenn has regularly praised Fields' confidence and maturity , calling him 'a mature man' Tuesday and adding that 'the outside noise does not bother him.'
That, however, has been a process.
'A lot's gone into that, to be honest,' Fields said. 'I would say experiences, for sure. But also, I think my relationship with God. I don't play for anybody's approval. You guys are all going to have your opinion and I'm never going to take any of it personal. Like I said, it doesn't matter. Y'all can have an opinion, y'all could say this and that, but at the end of the day, our lives aren't going to change.
'If I say something to y'all right now, the same thing's going to happen. It doesn't really affect life, it doesn't affect the way we live. So, if you look at it from that perspective, the bigger perspective, no matter what anybody says, it doesn't matter at the end of the day. It has zero meaning to me, to anybody, and God controls everything that happens in this world.'
While the 26-year-old Fields didn't detail the events that triggered his religious re-awakening, he acknowledged that the Bible has been even more impactful than any playbook.
'Yeah, I mean, me really getting closer to God, like I said, my relationship, me reading the Bible every day,' he said. 'And if I'm being real, there are some great lines and great wisdom that I didn't even know of. So I'm low-key addicted to getting in my Bible each and every day just because I learn something new every day and I'm able to apply it in my everyday life.
'But, I mean, I was sleeping on reading the Bible earlier in my life and I wish I would have started earlier. So I encourage y'all to, you know, go read a little bit. Start in Proverbs and move on from there.'
When asked if he believes that will ultimately help him be successful, Fields didn't hesitate.
'I know it will,' he said. 'I know it will, for sure.'

Like the existing weekly discover, the daily discover aims to help you find artists or music similar to what you already listen. Google only appears to be testing it at the moment, as the feature hasn't rolled out widely. Although its supremacy is contentious, YouTube Music is easily among the top five music and podcast streaming services globally. Its popularity naturally stems from the fact that it automatically sorts music (or other audio-based media) uploaded to YouTube. While the automatic sourcing already allows you to discover more tracks, including renditions, covers, audiobooks, etc., YouTube Music is adding a new Daily Discover feed to make the process much easier. We recently learned that Google is testing a new Daily Discover option to recommend new tracks every day based on your preferences. The feature, as spotted by Reddit user One_Flow_8127, is positioned somewhere on the homepage. It appears on top of the 'Trending songs for you' section, which appears after several scrolls on YouTube Music's homepage on the Android app. Based on the screenshots shared, we can see these recommendations show up in a carousel format, and people can scroll left or right to explore multiple recommendations. The feature shows recommendations for particular soundtracks instead of entire playlists, and also tells you the reason why it is being suggested. However, if you prefer, the suggestions also come with a 'Play All' button that should combine all tracks into a new playlist. The primary motive behind this feature is to learn about new artists and their music, which may be loosely based on your interests and listening habits. While its biggest competitor, Spotify, also offers discovery features, it primarily focuses on familiar artists and dispenses these recommendations in playlists instead of regular tracks. The daily discover option itself isn't new and was previously spotted by another Reddit user, BarisberatWNR, about a month ago. However, for them, the recommendations appeared in a different location on the homepage, suggesting YouTube may be testing varied placements to see what is likely to get the most attention. Last month, another user posted in Google's Community forums about the feature appearing and then being removed from their account. From what we expect, the daily discover feature could complement or substitute YouTube's Discover mix, a playlist refreshed weekly instead of daily. To be able to access this weekly discover playlist, you must scroll down on YouTube Music's homepage and spot it under the 'Mixed for you' tab. This appears to be a limited test for certain users, as many others on the original Reddit post have commented about not receiving it. We can't access the feature either, and it isn't easy to ascertain whether this is meant to be an A/B test or a rollout. Is The Nick Woltemade To Bayern Munich Transfer Truly Dead?
Will he stay or will he go? As things stand, Nick Woltemade is going to take the field when Bayern Munich face VfB Stuttgart in the Franz-Beckenbauer-Cup on Saturday. There is also a very good chance that it will be for his current club, Stuttgart. But will it be his last game for the Swabians? The latest reports suggest that the 24-year-old striker will remain in Stuttgart for the 2025/26 season. On Wednesday, Bayern Munich and Stuttgart reopened talks about a potential transfer. Bayern, according to various reports in Germany, offered a deal worth up to €60 million ($70 million). That deal was outright rejected by Stuttgart, prompting a strong response from Woltemade's agent, Danny Bachmann from Headtrick. 'In March 2024 and most recently in mid-June, VfB made a clear commitment to a solution-oriented approach as soon as the next career step is possible,' Bachmann said to DPA. 'For an ambitious German international, a move to the record German champions and regular Champions League participants is an enormous opportunity.' The agent then directly attacked VfB Stuttgart CEO Alexander Wehrle. 'The solution demanded by Mr. Wehrle this week within a questionable deadline was delivered today with the total package from the interested party and the player's side totaling more than €60 million plus a sell-on clause,' Bachmann said. 'The [VfB] Woltemade joined VfB Stuttgart from Werder Bremen on a free transfer last season. Capable of playing as a no.9, no.10, and on the wing, Woltemade has become a bit of a unicorn. Very tall (6'5), Woltemade has incredible one-on-one skills and the ability to find solutions in tight spaces. Indeed, his underlying stats put him in the same category as Hugo Ekitiké and Alexander Isak. Ekitiké just moved in a deal worth €95 million ($110 million) from Frankfurt to Liverpool. Isak is currently embroiled in his own transfer saga with Liverpool trying to sign the Swedish forward from Newcastle. Newcastle has already rejected £110 million ($150 million). With that in mind, what is a fair price for Woltemade? Stuttgart believes that a deal in the region of €75 million ($87.5 million) is a fair price. That's in the same category then what Bayern paid for Luis Díaz. The fee also compares to what Eintracht Frankfurt received for Egyptian forward Omar Marmoush from Manchester City last winter. Bachmann seems to disagree. 'That's not only completely unfounded – especially for a domestic transfer – but is in blatant contradiction to the aforementioned agreements,' Bachmann said in his statement to DPA. When it comes to current market prices, Stuttgart's demands regarding Woltemade seem to be in line with what is paid for strikers in European football. Does that mean the deal is now dead? Stuttgart will host Bayern Munich this weekend as part of the DFL SuperCup. That weekend is usually a get-together of the big Bundesliga bosses. In other words, there will be plenty of face-to-face meetings between the two clubs. Also, Bachmann's statement suggests that Woltemade, who has trained normally with the club, could be pushing for a transfer. Although reports on Thursday suggested a deal is now on the verge of collapse, that might be a bit premature. All will depend on this weekend as Bayern might test Stuttgart's resolve one more time.

Wayne Rooney 'disappointed' with Tom Brady over work ethic comments in documentary
LONDON (AP) — England soccer great Wayne Rooney has some beef with Tom Brady after some pointed comments by the NFL superstar in a fly-on-the-wall documentary. Brady became a minority owner of English club Birmingham City in 2023 and was involved in a docuseries — 'Built in Birmingham' — that went behind the scenes at the team that was briefly managed by Rooney, the former Manchester United forward. In one clip that quickly spread over social media, Brady said he was 'a little worried about our head coach's work ethic.' That remark referred to Rooney, who lasted just 83 days as manager before being fired as Birmingham slipped down the second-tier Championship. Rooney has responded to the seven-time Super Bowl champion in his new role as a pundit for the BBC, saying Brady's comment was 'very unfair.' 'Tom came in once, which was the day before a game, which is a little bit lighter anyway,' Rooney said in an interview with the BBC published on Thursday, 'and I don't think he really understood football that well at the time. Maybe he does now. 'But what he does understand is that he's a hard worker. We know that. So that's why I'm really disappointed with the comment, because football is not NFL. NFL works for three months in a year, players do need rest as well, so I think he was very unfair in the way he's come out and portrayed that.' Birmingham was relegated in that campaign but secured immediate promotion last season and is back in the Championship — one league away from the Premier League. 'Listen, I respect Tom Brady massively — he's one of the greatest, if not the greatest athlete of all time,' Rooney said.
