Rapido takes a swing at Swiggy and Zomato, enters food delivery space with Ownly
Rapido, the Indian ride-hailing company best known for its bike taxis, has begun testing a new food delivery service called Ownly in Bengaluru, taking direct aim at market leaders Swiggy and Zomato. The service is currently in beta and available in select parts of the city, including Byrasandra, Tavarekere, Madiwala (BTM) Layout, Hosur Sarjapura Road (HSR) Layout, and Koramangala, co-founder and chief executive Aravind Sanka told TechCrunch. Rapido has launched Ownly through a wholly owned subsidiary, Ctrlx a recent letter to shareholders, Swiggy reportedly said it would 're-evaluate' its investment, pointing to 'a potential conflict of interest' as Rapido enters the same market, according to a report by The Mint. As per the reports, Ownly's pitch is clear: offer food at around 15 per cent lower prices than Swiggy and Zomato. This is possible because, unlike its rivals, Rapido does not charge restaurants a commission of up to 30 per cent. Instead, it uses a fixed-fee-per-order model, a plan it reportedly presented to restaurants in June. TechCrunch also reports that Rapido will keep delivery zones tight, showing only nearby restaurants to reduce fuel costs and speed up service. Menus will be curated to maximise margins without hurting visibility for eateries, according to an investor cited in the company reportedly plans to use its large fleet, which will be of about 10 million vehicles nationwide, including 5-6 million two-wheelers, for the new service. This same network is already used for its taxi and courier operations. Rapido has also handled deliveries for Swiggy in the past, giving it insight into peak demand times and popular restaurants. The company is allowed to use this data, though its agreement with Swiggy bars it from working with Zomato or other in 2015, Rapido started with bike taxis before expanding into auto rickshaws, parcel delivery, third-party logistics, and most recently cab services. It has also partnered with Taiwan's Gogoro to introduce battery-swapping electric two-wheelers into its fleet.- EndsTrending Reel

ChatGPT begins testing this new feature in India, users will now have to pay…
OpenAI has reportedly started testing local pricing for ChatGPT in India, enabling users to pay in Indian rupees for the first time. As per a report by Moneycontrol, India now joins select markets such as the UK and parts of Europe in this pilot programme, which aims to make payments simpler and more accessible for the country's rapidly growing user base. The move comes shortly after the launch of GPT-5, OpenAI's most advanced model to date.(AP) Local pricing for Plus, Pro, and Team plans As part of the pilot rollout, the ChatGPT Plus plan is priced at ₹1,999 per month (including GST), the higher-end Pro plan at ₹19,900 per month, and the Team plan at ₹2,099 per seat per month. Previously, Indian users had to pay in US dollars - $20 (around ₹1,750) for Plus, $200 (around ₹17,500) for Pro, and $30 (around ₹2,600) per seat for the Team plan. Mobile Finder: iPhone 17 Air expected to launch in India next month The move comes shortly after the launch of GPT-5, OpenAI's most advanced model to date, which offers enhanced performance in 12 Indian languages. This localisation is expected to make the service more relevant for the Indian market. Possible cheaper tier incoming According to reports, OpenAI may soon introduce a budget-friendly plan called ChatGPT Go, potentially priced at ₹399 per month. This tier could appeal to casual users, students, and first-time subscribers seeking AI assistance without committing to premium plans. Local pricing was among the key demands raised with OpenAI CEO Sam Altman during his visit to India in February 2025. Startup founders and developers argued that dollar-based pricing created a barrier to adoption. OpenAI's vice president of engineering, Srinivas Narayanan, had earlier told MoneyControl that the company was working to make its tools more affordable for Indian developers, aligning with its global accessibility efforts. India's growing AI market India has now become OpenAI's second-largest market outside the United States, and Altman has suggested it could soon overtake the US in ChatGPT usage. The pilot pricing strategy reflects the platform's growing importance in the country's AI adoption curve. However, OpenAI faces stiff competition. Perplexity AI is offering Bharti Airtel's 360 million customers a free one-year subscription to its premium tier, while Google is providing Indian college students with a year's free access to its AI tools.

How a tweet prompted Sundar Pichai to add a new feature to Google Calendar: ‘Sometimes you just have to ask'
Sundar Pichai's response to a founder's one-month-old tweet about a suggestion involving Google Calendar has prompted social media users to praise the Indian-origin CEO. Google CEO Sundar Pichai, whose tweet has gone viral. (Getty Images via AFP) Stripe co-founder John Collison casually suggested a shortcut to duplicate events on Google Calendar. In his recent post, Pichai officially announced that the feature is now available to users. 'Could we get Ctrl-click on Google Calendar to duplicate events, like many native calendar applications have?' Collison tweeted about a month ago. Pichai responded, 'This feature is now live for everyone on Google Calendar on the web - thanks for the suggestion!' What did social media users say? An individual expressed, 'Sundar Pichai is out here doing customer service. I love it.' Another added, 'John, ask Google to make a wearable using their Gemini Live tech that integrates with everything on Android.' A third commented, 'Are you taking requests from non-unicorn founders, too?' A fourth wrote, 'Hi Sundar, can we log out of one Gmail account at a time instead of all accounts at once?' It is not the first time Sundar Pichai has provided 'customer support' on X. Earlier this year, he responded to a complaint tweet by Quora CEO Adam D'Angelo. 'At Quora we recently tested switching from Zoom to Google Meet for a week. Google Meet is better in many small ways, but worse in one big way: audio quality, particularly background noise cancellation and echoing. That kills it so we are staying on Zoom!' D'Angelo posted. In response Pichai wrote, 'Hey Adam, will follow up offline as haven't experienced this, as @reed notes below it works pretty well in my experience, we will debug to understand the root cause and fix. Thanks for flagging.'
